It's getting near dawn
When lights close their tired eyes
I'll soon be with you my love
Give you my dawn surprise
I'll be with you darling soon
I'll be with you when the stars start falling

I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love

I'm with you my love
The light's shining through on you
Yes, I'm with you my love
It's the morning and just we two
I'll stay with you darling now
I'll stay with you 'til my seas are dried up

I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love

I'm with you my love
The light's shining through on you
Yes, I'm with you my love
It's the morning and just we two
I'll stay with you darling now
I'll stay with you 'til my seas are dried up

I've been waiting so long
I've been waiting so long
I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. It has one of the best riffs ever (in my opinion), great guitar work, an awesome sound all around and the lyrics are just perfect to me.

Revisited's interpretation might be possible if they were talking about DUSK, not DAWN. The dawn of his life would be when he was born. If they said dusk his explanation might make sense.

Here's my interpretation. I've always viewed it as an innocent enough love song, not anything too complex or with some hidden meanings. Of course I don't delve too deep into song meanings so take it as you will.

"It's getting near dawn When lights close their tired eyes"

    • The Sun is about to come up. Street lights, advertisement lights and such are turning off.

"I'll soon be with you my love To give you my dawn surprise"

    • It's almost time to wake up and they can consciously be with each other. You can guess what the surprise might be.

"I'll be with you, darling, soon I'll be with you when the stars start falling"

    • They're about to wake up. Falling stars could be like a 'magical' moment.

"I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going"

    • He's been waiting to be with her so long, to have her love. This is the first time he's woken up with her, it's just them two and he felt it was finally real love.

"In the sunshine of your love"

    • All her love is focused on him.

"I'm with you, my love The light's shining through on you"

    • A: He's so in love with her that it seems she's more bright, vibrant and beautiful than before.
    • B: The sunlight's shining through the curtains onto her, highlighting her, making her beauty glow.

"Yes, I'm with you, my love It's the morning and just we two"

    • Self explanatory.

"I'll stay with you, darling, now I'll stay with you 'til my seas are dried up"

    • I see this as saying he'll be with her until he dies. (As in when a sea dries up it 'dies'.) The suggestive idea is possible as well.

You're all over analysing it. gimpyx2k was right, it is about sex. Use your imagination. Think to yourself, what could he mean by "dawn surprise?" And notice, he doesn't say "till the seas are dried up," he says the seas are his seas. Use your imagination.

This song focuses in on a seemingly trivial moment, but waking up to one you love, in the morning, when all seems perfect, before the day starts and reality happens, is a moment that the writer wants in slow motion and can be revisited again and again throught this song. He's been waiting so long to be with this women, its an epiphany of true love.

Further, this song can be related to Milton's Paradise Lost in the scene where Adam wakes to Eve and watches her sleeping peacefully. Its a celebration of love between a man and a women in its purest form. And a celebration of women and their beauty, holding men captive at times.

This song was influenced by Jimi Hendrix in the opening melody and is said to have begun the whole hard rock era with bands like Led Zeppelin and glam bands of the 80's. Clapton uses the wah-wah pedal and produces a gritty sound in his interpretation of a classic blues scale.

awsome song great guitar rift i think it's about a guy who's been in love with a girl for a long time and then he finally gets to be the one she love and he's in the "sunshine of your (her) love" because she's focusing it all on him

this is a beautiful song about sex and -- love of course -- my darling! mr. clapton & cream -- i give you much thanks for this song.

It's getting near dawn When lights close their tired eyes I'll soon be with you my love To give you my dawn surprise I'll be with you, darling, soon I'll be with you when the stars start falling ok -- i always thought it was dose of pride.. but i guess it is dose of prize -- wtf? this guy thinks his dose is a prize to her! ok i guess i get it now... anyway, what he is saying is that he has been working hard just to be with her and in fact he has worked all through the day and into the wee hours of the moring slaying dragons and his reward is to be with his one love. he reminds her that she is going to be seeing some stars falling soon.. after they are together. dawn surprise sounds a bit nasty. i sometimes wonder if this love thing is ellicit. regardless, stars will be falling and soon and there will be lots of them -- really -- stars will be falling from heaven and the lights are not going to be aware of what is going down. there is a dirty vibe in this song. beautiful but dirty. even if it is dirty, it is still beautiful.

I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going In the sunshine of your love he has been waiting (not been with anyone else) and btw that sun (the center of his universe) is damn hot in case you weren't aware!

I'm with you, my love yep, he has made it home (inside her) and they know each other now -- in the biblical sense. it's the creaminator makin babies!

The light's shining through on you she is so beautiful and he sees her in the magical light of thier true pagan love.

Yes, I'm with you, my love It's the morning and just we two I'll stay with you, darling, now I'll stay with you 'til my seas are dried up i truly doubt he actually owns a sea (in this reality at least), but sometimes seeds and sea can be thought of as the nearly the same things. whoever else might have been there is not there now. they are going to be busy for a while yet - until those seas are good and dry.

I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going In the sunshine of your love again, this is a love song, he is telling his darling that he needs her love and being with her is the meaning of his life -- his purpose. like those stars that fell, the sunshine of her love is a magical experience.

I'm with you, my love The light's shining through on you Yes, I'm with you, my love It's the morning and just we two I'll stay with you, darling, now I'll stay with you 'til my seas are dried up they are still getting busy, he wants to reassure her. don't worry, i love you and won't be leaving. you are my darling and i exist for you. give yourself to me and btw i have these seas that need drying up. she couldn't shake him off even if she wanted to. he is crazy for her and don't even know how to say it!

I've been waiting so long I've been waiting so long I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going In the sunshine of your love. he truly needs to be with his lover.

Ok, no you people are all wrong. This is not about drugs. It is quite simply about an orgasm. Let me walk you through it.

"It's getting near dawn, When lights close their tired eyes" It's late at night, the lights are off. Time for some love making.

"I'll soon be with you my love, To give you my dawn surprise I'll be with you darling soon, I'll be with you when the stars start falling" This bitch he's with already had one, and he's reassuring her that he will soon be there with her.

"I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going" Getting laid.

"I'm with you my love, The light's shining through on you Yes, I'm with you my love, It's the morning and just we two" Okay, so now he's there too. After a passionate night, they are laying together in the morning and at the same place physically.

"I'll stay with you till my seas are dried up" Seas=balls.

Alright? It's very clearly laid out. I hope this helped.

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
