"Best Of Both Worlds" as written by and Edward/van Halen Van Halen....
I don't know what I been livin' on
But it's not enough to fill me up
I need more than just words can say
I need everything this life can give me
'Cause sometimes it's not enough, ow
Come on baby close your eyes let go
This can be everything we've dreamed
It's not work, that makes it work on
Let the magic do the work for you

'Cause something reached out and touched me
Now I know all I want

I want the best of both worlds
And honey I know what it's worth
If we could have the best of both worlds
We'd have heaven right here on earth, ow

Well, there's a picture in a gallery
Of a fallen angel looked a lot like you
We forget where we come from sometimes
I had a dream it was really you

Something reached out and touched me
Now I know all I want

I want the best of both worlds
An' honey I know what it's worth
If we could have the best of both worlds
A little bit o' heaven right here on earth, oh

Whoa, you don't have to die an' go to heaven
Or hang around to be born again
Just tune in to what this place has got to offer
'Cause we may never be here again, ow

I want the best of both worlds
An' honey I know what it's worth
If we could have the best of both worlds
A little heaven right here on earth, come on

I want the best of both worlds
An' honey I know what it's worth
We can have the best of both worlds
A little heaven right here on earth, yeah

Tell me, is it enough?
Now will it ever be enough?

General CommentI thought this song had some hedonistic messages that supposedly corrupted our youth and was a posterboard for typical rantings of conservative religious groups against damaging rock music in the 80's.
Hearing this the other day I really tried to analyze the lyrics and see what was so bad:
(Coming from a male perspective) having sex with 2 girls at the same time, or at least sexual relationships
having straight vaginal sex (world 1) plus anal sex (world 2)
"Well, there's a picture in a gallery of
A fallen angel looked a lot like you
We forget where we come from sometimes
I had a dream it was really you"
He sees a model in a porno magazine (Isn't Gallery a hustler type) and wants his girl to be like her, then meets another who is and he sometimes wants his girl that he loves to be like the one he has sex with.

I could go on... Any Van Hagar's out there with some insight

My InterpretationI believe it's about two people, and how they live their lives apart. The best of both worlds is the love they've found in each other, and not letting the rest of the world getting in the way. Most verses are about being close yet far apart, and they need to find what they want because its all their live's about.

My InterpretationI agree with zzyz (reminds me of Rush's YYZ)... Anyway.

I think its about two people with conflicting things in their lives, but somehow trying to make it work anyway (e.g. having the best of both worlds).

    Then this part...
Just tune in to what this place has got to offer
'Cause we may never be here again. Ow!

Life is short, so live it and make the most of it.

General CommentTo me, the song is about living in the moment and enjoying the life we have here on Earth rather than spending our time hoping for an afterlife.

General CommentTo me, this song has always been about a guy that finds that rare woman that can be both a good girl, and the bad girl, but I know that I am probably way of on the meaning.
