"Love Walks In" as written by and Edward/van Halen Van Halen....
Contact is all it takes
To change your life to lose your place in time
Contact, asleep or awake
Coming around you may wake up to find
Questions deep within your eyes
Now more than ever you realize

And then you sense a change
Nothing feels the same
All your dreams are strange
Love comes walkin' in
Some kind of alien
Waits for the opening
Then simply pulls a string

Another world, some other time
You lay your sanity on the line
Familiar faces familiar sights
Reach back remember with all your might
Oh there she stands in a silken gown
Silver lights shining down

So when you sense a change
Nothing feels the same
All your dreams are strange,
Love comes walkin' in
Some kind of alien
Waits for the opening
Then simply pulls a string
Love comes walkin' in

Oh, sleep and dream is all I crave
I travel far across the milky way
To my master I become a slave
Till we meet again some other day
Where silence speaks as loud as war
Earth returns to what it was before

And then you sense a change
Nothing feels the same
All your dreams are strange,
Love comes walkin' in
Some kind of alien
Waits for the opening
Then simply pulls a string,
Love comes walkin' in

Love comes walkin' in
Baby, pull the string
Love comes walkin' in
Love comes walkin' in yeah

General Comment"It's been a long, long time, but back in about '68, in Fontana, California, I had this unbelievable experience that would take this whole interview to even go into," Hagar told Guitar World magazine recently. "But I'm a firm believer — have seen, have felt, have been contacted three or four different times. I have received information that has been valuable in my life from those people, and they have used me. I'm gonna sound like a complete nut here, but they have used me in an experimental fashion. The easiest way to put it is that they downloaded my brain information. When I was about 19 or 20, they downloaded everything that was in my head. And I caught 'em doin' it! I woke up in the middle of the night, thinkin', 'What's goin' on?' They were like, 'Oh, my god, he's waking up!' But this was all telepathy — there were no words being spoken. And as soon as I woke up — it was probably three o'clock in the morning — my whole room was so bright that I could hardly keep my eyes open. I was wide-awake, I could not move, eyes open, white room, they were still disconnecting — and when they did, it just went bang! Everything went back to normal, back to black. I was shaking, I almost passed out, I was sick to my stomach and almost had to throw up, it was so scary…

General CommentSubstitute the word "God" for "love" and it's pretty clear what this song is about.

General CommentWhen I first heard this song I thought it was awesome - until I heard the chorus. An alien? An alien who pulls a string? Not all metaphors aregood metaphors. I just can't take it seriously. It sounds like something weird Al Yankovic would write, except weird Al is funny.

My OpinionSongs touch us in different ways. We're not all the same so songs will always mean something different to each of us.

To me this song is all about a person who experiences true love for the first time. When love "walks in" it's like an alien; it's different. We're never the same again and life changes. We see things differently.

And then you sense a change
    Nothin' feels the same
    All your dreams are strange
    Love comes walkin' in
    Some kind of alien
    Waits for the opening
    Simply pulls a string

General CommentDon't know why this song catches so much shit. I love it. Sammy's vocal DELIVERY in the song is achingly beautiful and unique. the words are a bit cheesy...but man those arrangements are LUSH. Van Halen went through a keyboard-y phase with "1984" and "5150" albums and I think they showed they could really flourish this way.

Song MeaningThe true meaning of this song is clear and deliberate to those who are meant to understand it...I know what it means because I fall into the category of the people who are meant to understand it...I guess it shouldn't surprise me that hardly anybody knows the true meaning of the song...I am yet to find anyone online yet who does...but these forums are limited in a sense...bottom line...there are only two types of people that are meant to understand what the meaning of this song is...true witches, or those who have studied and understand witchcraft...if you don't fall into one of these two categories, you will remain clueless to the true meaning of the song...you aren't meant to know...you will never understand

General CommentTo the above...I know what this song is about. Sammy Hagar either took part in an occult group or was, most likely, part of an experimental mind control program when he was younger.

If you do some research on those topics the origin of the song becomes quite clear. A lot of 70's artists wrote lyrics, or had lyrics written for them, that were written in code that makes sense to somebody who is involved in the occult.

I'm not involved in the occult, witchcraft, or mind control. I've just done a lot of research on those subjects. It's funny how these old songs...lyrics I never put much thought into...make sense to me now. It's almost like listening to them for the first time again.

My InterpretationIt's definitely about falling in love for the first time (perhaps losing one's virginity as Zepfreak suggested) or finding real love that's far more genuine than any previous relationship.
