"At Least We Tried" as written by and Richard Melville Hall....
(Vocals by Freedom Bremner)

Oh my baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe just say goodbye.
Oh now baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe at least we tried.
At least we tried, to make it,
But in these days I'm so confused.
Oh my love at least we had it,
Let me hold on, to you.

Oh my baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe just say goodbye.
Oh now baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe at least we tried.
At least we tried, but we lost it.

I will, remember
How you stood there, and you smiled.
And you smiled baby,
With me.

Oh my baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe just say goodbye.
Oh now baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe at least we tried.

Oh my baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe just say goodbye.
Say goodbye.
Oh now baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe at least we tried.

Oh my baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe just say goodbye.
Goodbye my baby, don't cry.
Oh my babe at least we tried.

General CommentThis is such a sad song. I think its about someone who is talking to his wife, about a child that they couldnt have. :( At least we tried, but we lost it. Oh my baby, just say goodbye. I mean when you think about it thats really quite sad.

General CommentI never thought about it that way LullabyBaby. About a relationship or that. Wow...that adds so much more hurt to that song.

General CommentThis reminds me of how my ex-girlfriend and I use to be inseparable, the endless consecutive days we spent together over the summer. It reminds me of our pinnacle. Love was so strong once, and after a year of seeing one another so often, it was just too hard to keep that same level, even though forcefully did I try. At least we once had that love and can hold on to the memory forever – Such innocent and happy times.
As I look back at the experience, I never regretted breaking up with the girl I once loved, I couldn’t lie to myself. I was happy because 'at least we tried' hard, and as it lasted - it was worth every second… With that love now gone, there is no need to shed tears; it was worth the journey, which will reside in both of our most joyful memories. Now we stand as close friends smiling at one another: “At least we tried”
I can honestly admit that slowly losing love for someone is worse than searching for it.
And I think that is why this song is so sad.

General CommentI like the idea of a lullaby..

I always saw it as a man who was dying and saying good bye to his wife. Perahps he was struggling with a sick ness, and they tried to fight it.
I could totally be wrong. lol.

General CommentI just rediscovered this song while on holiday.
I love it. It's kinda kitch.
It reminds me of a Neil Young/Simply Red/Culture Club song.
It's sound is very early 80's imo.

I love the entire "18" album. It's my favorite Moby album.

My InterpretationThis is a very sad song; it exposes the pain you feel from any significant form of loss; breakup, death, anything. It shows that in these situations, one loses all power to keep control, knowing that you'll miss what you had.

General Commenti have always thought of a killer/psychopath-esque character speaking to his prey in this song.
he wanted to have a relationship and she wouldn't 'fall in love' with him, so he is saying just say goodbye, as he is burying her.

    "oh my baby, don't cry.
    just say goodbye.
    oh now baby, don't cry

oh my babe, at least we tried
at least we tried to make it

in these days i am so confused
oh my love, at least we had it
let me hold on to you"
he thinks to himself: i will remember how you stood there, and you smiled, and you smile there with me.

i know pretty gruesome, don't ask where that came from.
