"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Should I even listen?
Should I even try?
Will I just be hearing the same old lines, baby?
See, it doesn't matter what you say this time
'Cause our whole relationship is built on one lie
You say things aren't the way they seem
But still you can't come straight with me
How can you think that you're in love
When you don't know the meaning of it?
Love shoulda brought you
Brought you home last night
You shoulda been with me
Shoulda been right by my side
Baby, if you cared anything for me
Then love woulda brought you to me last night
(Last night)
Gotta hand it to you
You had me there for a while
I was so in love with you, I couldn't see past your smile
Now I smell the coffee, I got a wake up call
And you left a message that you just don't care at all
You can't expect me to believe
That she does not mean anything
You say that you love only me
Your kind of lovin', my darling, I just don't need
Love shoulda brought you
Brought you home last night
(Lord knows) you shoulda been with me
Shoulda been right by my side
(Oh, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby) baby, if you cared anything for me
(If you really cared)
Then love woulda brought you to me last night
Love shoulda brought you
Brought you home last night (last night)
You shoulda been with me
(Lord knows that you shoulda been right there)
Shoulda been right by my side
(Oh, baby) baby (if you cared anything for me)
Then you woulda been sincere
And I wouldn't be in tears
And love woulda brought you to me last night
Oh, baby, why?
Why do men think that love's just for the moment
Not overtime?
Please, tell me why
Why should I think that you're gonna be sincere?
Are you deservin'?
Don't blame me if I just don't believe it
Just don't believe that you'll always be here
Love shoulda brought you
Brought you home last night
You shoulda been with me
Shoulda been right by my side
Oh, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby
Even if you cared
Woulda be, woulda be here
Love shoulda brought you
Brought you home last night
Lord knows you shoulda been with me
Shoulda been right by my side
Oh, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby
If you really cared
(Then love woulda brought you to me last night)
You forgot all about me
(You should've) brought me love
Brought you home last night
(Love) you shoulda been with me
(Love) shoulda been right by my side
Baby, if you cared anything for me
Then love woulda brought you to me last night
Love shoulda brought you
(Love) brought you home last night

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Plastic Bag

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
one of my favorites. the guy should have been more caring to his women
Funny thing, this song was written by 3 guys including Kenneth Edmonds, whom is better known as Babyface.
This is a great song. Toni delivers it brilliantly, which is one reason there aren't any commercial covers of it.
I might be the only guy in the world who sings this on Karaoke night. I do sing it an octave down. I switch out "why do men think" for "why do some girls think".
