A chair is still a chair, even when there's no one sittin' there
But a chair is not a house and a house is not a home
When there's no one there to hold you tight
And no one there you can kiss goodnight

Whoa, ohh, girl

A room is still a room, even when there is nothin' there but gloom
But a room is not a house and a house is not a home
When the two of us are far apart
And one of us has a broken heart

Now and then I call your name
And suddenly your face appears
But it's just a crazy game
When it ends, it ends in tears

Pretty little darling, have a heart, don't let one mistake keep us apart
I'm not meant to live alone, turn this house into a home
When I climb the stairs and turn the key
Oh, please be there, sayin' that you're still in love with me, yeah

I'm not meant to live alone, turn this house into a home
When I climb the stairs and turn the key
Oh, please be there, still in love
I said still in love
Still in love with me, yeah

Are you gonna be in love with me?
I want you and need you to be, yeah
Still in love with me
Say you're gonna be in love with me
It's drivin' me crazy to think that my baby
Couldn't be still in love with me

Are you gonna be, say you're gonna be
Are you gonna be, say you're gonna be
Are you gonna be, say you're gonna be
Well, well, well, well
Still in love, so in love, still in love with me?
Are you gonna be
Say that you're gonna be

Still in love with me, yeah
With me, ohh
Still in love with me, yeah

IS THIS NOT THE BEST SONG EVER! The first time I heard it was when Tamyra from American Idol sang it but boy can she sing. This song definatly represents the way u feel when u made a mistake and sum1 leaves u for it. Anyway ROCK ON!

I heard a song called "Slow Jamz", performed by Twista, Kanye West and Jamie Foxx, witch contains a sample of "A house is not a home". I LOVE that part of "Slow Jamz" so I found "A House is not a home", performed by Luther Vandross, on the internet and I was blown away! I can't remember the last song that thoughed me as much as this did. It's sung with so much heart and soul, almost desperately, at the end, where his practically begging for her, to still love him. It's unbelieverble! Thank you Burt Bacharach and Luther Vandross for this beautiful, BEAUTIFUL song.

Let me follow suit by saying: Yes, I too love Luther Vandross, except I've been listening to him for many years. Anyway, this song is one of my favorites by him. To me it's pretty simple... He made a mistake that could ruin his relationship, but he's hoping that she is willing to look past it. You can hear the quiet desperation in his voice throughout the song; it's coming from a man who knows he was wrong and hopes that his mistakes won't keep him from the woman he loves. I love it!

Such a simple metaphor, but damn who can deliver the meaning like Luther does in this tune?

i like the lyrics. I love the remake of this song sung by the Glee Cast. This song is sung with so much emotion. I think it has a melancholy tone that sings to my heart. There is desperation in his voice and you can almost feel his heart beating out of his chest as he sings to the girl. It's so strong it makes me feel as though my heart is beating out of my own chest.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
