"I Am a Patriot" as written by and Steven Van Zandt....
And the rivers shall open for the righteous
And the rivers shall open for the righteous
And the rivers shall open for the righteous, someday

I went walking, with my brother
And he wondered, oh, how I am
Said what I believe with my soul
Ain't what I see with my eyes
And there's no turning back this time
I am a patriot, and I love my country
Because my country is all I know
I want to be with my family
People who understand me
I got no place else to go...
I am a patriot...

I was walking with my girlfriend.
She looked so fine, I said
"Baby, what's on your mind?"
Said I want to run like the lions
Released from their cages...
Released from the rages
Burning in my soul tonight.

I am a patriot, and I love my country
Because my country is all I know

And I ain't no communist,
And I ain't no socialist,
And I ain't no capitalist,
And I ain't no imperialist,
And I ain't no democrat,
Sure ain't no republican either,
I only know one party,
And that is Freedom.
I am... I am... I am...

I am a patriot, and I love my country,
Because my country is all I know.

And the rivers shall open for the righteous,
And the rivers shall open for the righteous,
And the rivers shall open for the righteous Someday...
Someday... Someday...

General CommentThis is a great song, there are two versions tho....

    this is one:
I was walking with my girlfriend.
She looked so fine, I said
    "Baby, what's on your mind?"
Said I want to run like the lions
    Released from their cages...
    Released from the rages
    Burning in my soul tonight.

    this is the other:
I was walking with my boyfriend.
he looked so fine, I said
    "Baby, what's on your mind?"
Said I want to run like the lions
    Released from their cages...
    Released from the rages
    Burning in my soul tonight.

General CommentThe song is originally done by Stevie Van Zant who is in Bruce Springsteen and the E-street band. Pearl Jam has been covering it a lot latley and wish people who hear it would stop thinking its some great patriotic song. Just look at the line:
I am a patriot, and I love my country,
Because my country is all I know.
This song is not about being a blind patriot like we see so many peopel today. It's about being a pariot because this country is all you know.

General CommentThis song is in response to those who say "well if you don't like it then get out!" It means, this is my country, too, and I have every right to be here, don't tell me to shut up or leave.

BTW, written by Steven Van Zandt.

General CommentJumpyJack, I think the point is meant to be that if you "hate" American you can try to make a difference, not just leave. Not a lot of progress that way, huh? Who hasn't felt frustrated with the place they're from or where they live sometimes and wanted it to be different?

General CommentId love to know all these countires that you cant leave. There are maybe 5 or 6 in the entire world that doesnt allow it's citizens to leave whenever the hell they want. America is a great place, sure, but it's certainly not the only place in the world that habours democracy.

General CommentUm, no. Germany? France? England? Australia? New Zealand? India? Sweden? USSR? on and on..USA had little or nothing whatsoever to do with "freeing" any of these nations. A lot of them were practicing democracy before the States were even discovered.

General CommentI didnt say the USA havnt played their part, but the states entered the war after pearl habour, so it wasnt a strictly benovolent act was it? And no, The states had little to do with the fall of communism in the USSR at all. That was an internal struggle.

General CommentI will grant you, however, that the States ARE doing a wonderful job of importing democracy to Iraq.
