"Brand New Day" as written by and Gordon Sumner....
How many of you people out there
Been hurt in some kind of love affair?
And how many times did you swear
That you'd never love again?
How many lonely, sleepless nights?
How many lies, how many fights?
And why would you want to
Put yourself through all of that again?
Love is pain I hear you say
Love has a cruel and bitter way of
Paying you back for all the faith you ever had in your brain
How could it be that what you need the most
Can leave you feeling just like a ghost?
You never want to feel so sad and lost again
One day you could be looking
Through an old book in rainy weather
You see a picture of her smiling at you
When you were still together
You could be walking down the street
And who should you chance to meet
But that same old smile you've been thinking of all day?
Why don't we turn the clock to zero honey
I'll sell the stock we'll spend all the money
We're starting up a brand new day
Turn the clock all the way back
I wonder if she'll take me back
I'm thinking in a brand new way
Turn the clock to zero sister
You'll never know how much I missed her
I'm starting up a brand new day
Turn the clock to zero boss
The river's wide we'll swim across
We're starting up a brand new day
It could happen to you,
Just like it happened to me,
There is simply no immunity
There's no guarantee.
I say love is such a force if you should find yourself in it
You need some time for reflection
You say, baby wait a minute, wait a minute
Wait a minute, wait a minute
Wait a minute, wait a minute
Turn the clock to zero honey
I'll sell the stock we'll spend all the money
We're starting up a brand new day
Turn the clock to zero Mac
I'm begging her to take me back
I'm thinking in a brand new way
Turn the clock to zero boss
The river's wide we'll swim across
Starting up a brand new day
Turn the clock to zero buddy
Don't wanna be no fuddy duddy
We're starting up a brand new day
I'm the rhythm in your tune
I'm the sun and you're the moon
I'm the bat and you're the cave
You're the beach and I'm the wave
I'm the plough and you're the land
You're the glove and I'm the hand
I'm the train and you're the station
I'm the flagpole to your nation
I'm the present to your future
You're the wound and I'm the suture
You're the magnet to my pole
I'm the devil in your soul
You're the pupil I'm the teacher
You're the church and I'm the preacher
You're the flower I'm the rain
You're the tunnel I'm the train
Stand up all you lovers in the world
Stand up and be counted every boy and every girl
Stand up all you lovers in the world
We're starting up a brand new day
You're the crop to my rotation
You're the sum of my equation
I'm the answer to your question
If you follow my suggestion
We can turn this ship around
And go up instead of down
You're the pan and I'm the handle
You're the flame and I'm the candle
Stand up all you lovers in the world
Stand up and be counted every boy and every girl
Stand up all you lovers in the world
We're starting up a brand new day

General Commentthis song means a lot to me. i never paid attention to the lyrics that much until my ex that i still love with all of my heart mentioned that this could be our nice break up song. when i read it, i was shocked, cause it sounds like he's tryin to tell me that he misses me and does yearn to come back. but at the same time...he's acting so shady to me. so i dont know if this song was his "hidden" way of gettin out his true feelings or if he just thought "brand new day" was safe just cause of the title. he is the type to listen to lyrics though...so...the mystery remains unsolved. maybe you guys can help. thanks!

General CommentI love this song because it's so positively optimistic. while we all like a good depressing song, I like the way this song sort of scorns all of those and makes you feel like a loser for not being happy.

General CommentI LOVE this song. This is THE song for starting anew in a relationship. I think this about getting a second chance with the one that got away. I love the analogies in the song. Many of the analogies make references to sex like. "You're the glove and I'm the hand, I'm the train and your the station." Also, the song encourages others to stand up and get back with that someone that you lost. My favorite line is "We can turn this ship around, we'll go up instead of down.." By the by, Stevie Wonder (as usual) kicks ass on that ahrmonica.

General CommentI always liked this song so many years later, I turn the clock to zero.
    Can you do that?
This is just some silly story--a cheap B movie. Of course, I can.
    And what will that mean?
    Haven't the foggiest ...
    And yet you did it.
You always knew what a crazy nut I am.
How will you turn the ship around?
I don't have to. I'm not magic. The ship turned itself around. Who knows why? I don't. Should I not have done this?
    Too late now, baby.
Yes, isn't it? Things were always like that with you.
    Always....
Well, let's hope I did the right thing.
If not, at least you did something. This is so encouraging coming from chicken-s... you.
Hey, 20 years could make even the chicken-s...iest person brave.
    I knew that.
I'll bet you did. Aren't you the marvelous master of memorized minutiae?
    And then some ...

General Comment[Sting]: I wanted to write an optimistic song about love that began in one place and ended up in another... I used the symbol of Y2K as a symbol of beginning again. Turn the clock to zero is an interesting symbol. A symbol of rebirth.

General Commentlove this song, its my ring tone haha. i listen to this when i get ticked off or when i feel like theres nothing worth fighting for anymore. it makes you feel that whatever happens, tomorrows a new day and no matter whats going on, what you take from a certain situation and turn it into is completely up to you

General CommentThis song is a breakup song, i really like the start it makes you feel much better, i'd rather move on after a break up than to keep chaceing the girl, so the second part doesnt apeal to me as hope to get her back but i just see it as a new begining with a better woman the next time around and its so uplifting, its great!

General CommentThe best way to get over an ex is not to hate them but too keep on loving them, in reality i wouldnt want to get back with an ex unless they were a completely different person from when we broke up but having that hope of meeting them and having a relationship with them one day strangely makes you not think about them and move on

General CommentI love this song. Big changes coming my way and I am so excited for the break of day (huh...a rhyme:) It's one of the few Sting songs I like as his voice bugs the heck out of me. Not looking for love...just a dance partner and someone to eat my cooking, but all that comes after the big stuff...
