"Big Bang Baby" as written by Dean Deleo, Robert Emile Deleo, Eric Kretz and Scott Richard Weiland....
I got a picture of a photograph
Of a wedding and a shell
It's just burning itching memory
I never kiss and tell

So turn it up and burn it
There's a hole in your head
There's a hole in your head
Where the birds can't sing along
Does anybody know how the story really goes
How the story really goes
Or do we all just hum along

Sell your soul and sign an autograph
Big bang baby, it's a crash, crash, crash
I wanna cry but I gotta laugh
Orange crush mama is a laugh, laugh, laugh

Spin me up, spin me, spin me out
Station to station send me up and out
Is this what life and love is all about
I think I think so

We used to see in color
Now it's only black and white
Yeah it's only black and white
'Cause the world is color blind
Does anybody know how the story really goes
How the story really goes
Or do we all just hum along

Sell your soul and sign an autograph
Big bang baby, it's a crash, crash, crash
I wanna cry but I gotta laugh
Orange crush mama is a laugh, laugh, laugh

Nothing's for free
Nothing's for free
Take it away boys

General CommentThis song is about selling out, selling yourself short in love, and being messed up.
I've also heard its about Courtney Love and her marriage to Kurt (and Scott's supposed lifelong crush on her) but who knows. It's probably a rumour, but I can see how the lyrics may be interpreted in that way:

    "I got a picture of a photograph
of a wedding and a shell
it's just a burning aching memory I never kiss and tell" - looking at pictures of a wedding and harbouring a secret admiration for someone but never telling anyone

"there's a hole in your head there's a hole in your head " - reference to her band perhaps?

"sell your soul and sign an autograph
big bang baby it's a crash, crash, crash
I wanna cry but I gotta laugh" - disappointment in her (both for being a sellout and marrying someone else)

"is that what life and love is all about" - Love

"for free nothing's for free take it away boys nothing's for free nothing's for free take it away boys "

Anyways, I thought that was interesting.

General CommentI wonder if the orange crush lyric in the chorus is an R.E.M. reference.

General CommentThis song is one of my favorites of theirs...question, though. Was this song ever on a soundtrack to a movie or TV show? Because I heard it when I was younger & I could have sworn I got it from the TV....

exactly the same with me, its so great. when it does the line "where the birds cant sing along" and screams it, but it's numbed- awsome.

and to be honest, it's hard enough to look into the real meaning of any song, let alone Scott's, it's so much harder because you have to consider the drugs he was on when he wrote them.
i gave up looking into the meanings very quickly, but i still find it interesting to read the lyrics =]

General CommentMy favorite part is "cause the world is colorblind"...I just think it's funny the way they yell it in the background in that high-pitched voice. Anyway Scott's voice sounds weird in this song, how does he do that? Sounds like he's been eating nothing but Weetabix with no milk for days on end.

General Commenti think this song is about kurt cobain with some odd courtney love references in it.... i hear a shit load in this song .... and we all know in the 90s scott had an infatuation with courtney love for some weird reason

    I got a picture of a photograph
of a wedding and a shell
it's just a burning aching memory I never kiss and tell -
-that so sounds like a reference to kurt/courtneys relationship...almost like maybe hes hinting a possible affair while they were married?? it sounds crazy but think about it may mean something along those lines... i got a picture of a photograph of a wedding and a shell is defintly about kurts suicide and relationship to courtney love... then he says its just a burning aching memory i never kiss and tell.... could scott be hinting something there? i mean him and courtney love did hang out alot in 98 where scott claims all they did was shoot up drugs for 2 months .... given courtney loves whorish nature im sure he tapped that ... also and whenever scott got busted with drugs for the first time he had courtney love give out a letter to the public apologizing

so turn it up and burn it
    there's a hole in your head -
    - this to me is a reference to the kurt cobain suicide

does anybody know how the the story really goes how the story really goes
or do we all just hum along -

-this may be a reference to cobains vocal style... like how it was hard to understand what he was actually saying... just like when smells like teen spirit came out nobody knew what kurt was saying they just liked the melody and how it sounded but never really knew what kurt was actually saying

big bang baby it's a crash, crash, crash - kurt cobains downward spiral after becoming famous

    scott you are a genious
