There we stood on our dark and isolated planetoid
Shivering like a San Andreas windowpane
Suddenly looking up and seeing for the first time
The high suspended moon

Vain attempts with rocks to confront the thing
Failed like springloaded boots and cowboy lassoings
Suddenly we heard Julie for the very first time
And her voice was warm as June

She said 'What you need is a rocket,
But a rocket's not an easy thing to make.'
'We got one' we said, 'It's too low on gas
To get three feet above the grass.'

And Julie said Futz.
Futz, said Julie.
'Futz around until my return'
The definition of "futz" was something we had yet to learn
But we tried to do it anyway, anyway
'Cause Julie we'll do anything you say.

We perused our ramshackle rocketship
We observed its myriad requirements
We thought it needed a stronger hull
And electrical boosts and a year's worth of supplies

Well the news streched out like an octopus,
(da-na-na-na-na-na)
And in time it attracted a following
A following made of Freaks and Geeks of the very best kind
To enable us to fly.

What we had was a rocket when we finished
But a rocketship complete
With empty tanks, it's too low on gas
To get three feet above the grass

And Julie said Futz.
Futz, said Julie.
'Futz around until my return'
The definition of "futz" was something we had yet to learn
But we tried to do it anyway, anyway
'Cause Julie we'll do anything you say.

Moms, dads, people that we never see
People that we otherwise would never hang around with
No medallion, every general stands alone

Moms, dads, people that we never see
People that we otherwise would never hang around with
No medallion, every general stands alone

Be strong, honest, try and keep your nose clean
Julie's coming back with gasoline, oh!

And Julie said Futz.
Futz, said Julie.
'Futz around until my return'
The definition of "futz" was something we had yet to learn
But we tried to do it anyway, anyway
'Cause Julie we'll do anything you say.

And Julie said Futz.
Futz, said Julie.
'Futz around until my return'
The definition of "futz" was something we had yet to learn
But we tried to do it anyway, anyway
'Cause Julie we'll do anything you say.

But we tried to do it anyway, anyway
'Cause Julie we'll do anything you say.
Oh, I

General CommentWoah! I have a totally different concept of what this song is about. I think it's about the way a band comes together.
They are stranded on a "dark and isolated planetoid" of obscurity, trying to shoot for the stars, but they don't know how to go about it. Julie is either a member of the band or an agent of some sort, saying they'll help the band get famous, if they can just be patient and wait for "the big break". In the mean-time, the band enjoys allot of local popularity in bars and gigs they would otherwise have missed.

Unfortunately Julie never came back with the gasoline, and the band has since fallen apart :(

I love this song, it speaks to me of trying your best, even when you can't get a break, and how much fun the journey is, even if you never reach the destination.

General Commenti think this song is great, it's about the space program probably.

General CommentAside from this song being incredible (especially the amazing sax solo), I do agree that it is most likely about the early American space program. It appears that the people singing represent America with their space program in it's infancy and how it was kind of lost until one Wernher von Braun, who is represented by Julie, came along and really kickstarted the program into high gear and made it the most advanced one today. I'm not sure if every Pain song has such a meaning to it (or if I really even got this one right), but they're all great.

General CommentWell to me, futz means "do whatever while I'm gone", and that's exactly what they did, and they did everything except what they expected Julie to do ( get fuel). And they maintain hope that Julie is gonna come back with fuel (even though she probrably isn't). Symbolic to me that you shouldn't leave 100% faith on one person to do one crucial thing or you're gonna be right back where you started in the very beginning (on a dark and isolated planetoid with a rocketship completely out of fuel). Always have a backup plan in life.
