the slowest night
the slowest dance
you sway across the room as you dream
an empty house
with empty rooms
I loved you so
and now you're going
go, and leave if you must know
and go, I never wanted you to know
go
we ran away
or so we thought
now I know you were told to
go
to know love
to show love
and go
to give love
to feel loved
and go
I fell asleep
washed up on the shore
I kiss my [son Christopher?]
you move to speak
no words could reach me
at one, once knew
go, love, and learn by your desire
and know love
you're the only reason why
I'm terrified to go
to know love
to show love
go [go]
to give love
to feel loved
go [go]
to know love
to show love
I'm begging you to go

    General CommentGreat song.

The line is actually ' I kissed my St. Christoper' instead of 'Son Christopher.'

I think at least part of the song is about James' relationship with Darcy - when he sings 'I'm begging you to go' at the end, it reminds me of an interview he gave about why Darcy left the band and how she had to leave for her own good.

General Commenti think it's about a guy who got fucked around by a girl, and he's basically telling her to go because she needs to understand what love is. he loves her so much, and she says she does...but not in the way he knows. it's so beautifully put and it's a painful situation. anyways, that's what i think...

General CommentI get sort of a Cupid and Psyche feel from this. The story from Greek mythology is Cupid is in love with Psyche, but is a god and cannot be with mortals, but secretly gets together with her and they live together, but she isn't allowed to see him or his face, but she loves him. Psyche's jealous sisters trick her to try to see what he looks like, and she does one night, and he leaves because of her breaking her promise to him. I'm sure I messed that up, so find a version of the story and read it yourself.

General CommentThat's James Iha singing. (He also sings in Take Me Down on MCIC, and probably others but thats one off the top of my head.)
Maybe it's about Billy's ex, I doubt it though. You would think that Billy would be singing if it was. I dont really know the details of his divorce so it's hard to say. I do know that he was deeply in love though.

General CommentI know the Cupid and Psyche story, and it does sound extremely similar. However, the first time I heard the song it reminded me of someone who had a girlfriend and circumstances tore them apart. The split made them fight, but he realized though that it was good, and that they learned how to love and how to be loved. He forgets about the memory as his life goes on. Then years down the road, he wakes up and realizes he and his son are going to be separated due to circumstance and the memory is reborn. He wants his son to go and be loved and know loved how he learned when he was young. This story couldn’t be about someone in the band, but maybe it was a song about someone they know, or inspired by a family member, or something. It doesn’t seem like the smashing pumpkins to write about Greek mythology, but who knows right?

General Commentthis song, paired with "Home" is about glass, literally breaking-up with the spirit of his dead girlfriend, June. she died, and their relationship never actually "Ended", so glass is making peace with her ghost. so he finally has closure for her.
