"That Day" as written by Annie Danielewski and Cameron Stone....
Tomorrow's coming 'round like a hair-pin curve in the road
She's got a run in her stocking and she's missing the heel of her shoe
Got up this morning rolled out of bed
I spilled a Diet Coke
Called my mother
Said, "Hi." What I meant to say was:
"Why is your life a joke?"
Then I went down to that ugly bar and
I clicked my heels three times just like you said
And I climbed that road to your empty house
The anticipation was a turn-on...but you let me down
'Cause I stood on that empty street alone
I said, "I'm ready for my close-up now, Mr. Demille."
I waited for the light but it never shone
Well I wonder what you do with that expensive piece of land
That overlooks a billion years of history (I have a sneaking suspicion)
You will never understand
Hey maybe I'll see you down by the Rocky & Bullwinkle
And we can talk to that charlatan psychic
And she can paint a prettier picture of your future.

'Cause that day in my life...
That day in my life...
I dreamt tomorrow had a prettier face
I dreamt tomorrow would have better things to say
Than, "You look like shit, what's your problem, bitch?
You're legs feel like sandpaper, you can't do anything right."
'Cause that day never should have taken place
'Cause this day in my life still cannot explain
Why I listened in the first place
to you

Oh yeah, something else...

I hope one day you call up your father
And you have the guts to tell him how he hurt you
And he made you hurt another
'Cause it makes me sad.

General Commenttaking my own experiences into consideration i think this song is about a really shitty ex-bf. "you look like shit, whats yer problem bitch? yer legs feel like sandpaper, you can't do anything right." maybe those words weren't exactly spoken to her, but i think that whomever treated her like this might as well have said this hurtful stuff. and in the end when she says, "i hope one day you call up your father and have the guts to tell him how he hurt you and how he made you, hurt another. cos it makes me sad." i think that she blames the father of the asshole, cos yea, we all know history repeats itself. and i believe strongly in nurture.. as opposed to nature. i've seen this stuff.

General CommentThis song just hurts. The rythem cuts into your soul and the lyrics twist the knife violently right before the combination of the two kills you.

General CommentA day in the life of Poe ... ?
A lot of deeper meaning in these lyrics, I'm sure ... but it just sounds like the way someone who was dissatisfied with their life would look at things around them.

General CommentOr ... it sounds like a sex crime, or a guy treating a girl badly, or something like that, that just really changed her.

General CommentI think it's a guy backing out on a dream. The day when a dream died.

General Commentfavorite parts of the song:

    "called my mother, said 'hi'
what I meant to say was 'why's your life a joke?'"

    and

"I dreamt tomorrow had a prettier face
I dreamt tomorrow would have better things to say than:
'you look like shit, what's your problem, bitch?
    your legs feel like sandpaper
    you can't do anything right,'
cause that day never should have taken place
and this day in my life still cannot explain
why I listened in the first place to you,"

it makes me think of all those things you wish you could say when things reach their breaking point in your mind on bad days or whatever, yet you still hold back and say nothing.

it's one of my favorite songs of hers.

General CommentMost of the lyrics are rite, But not all are there.
Other than that, Poe is a great artist, and this is a great song.

General CommentIt seems like half of this song is from herself to herself. I don't know much about her childhood, etc, but "I hope one day you have the guts to call up your father and tell him how much he hurt you," sounds like something she wants herself to do. Also, the "you look like shit," and sandpaper legs, etc etc is to herself. Or maybe this was obvious? hehe o.O

General CommentI've seen this stuff two...too many times. It's like when you are sitting there in an abusive relationship, while the abuser is FINALLY sleeping, you sit and try to remind yourself of how this person first made you feel...used to make you feel...and you try to scavange the present for events that might be interpreted as the equivalent of the things that first allured you or attempts at equivalent of the things that snagged you in the first place...like, you wonder if maybe you, yourself, are being too much of an unappreciative bitch to see it now....then you feel sorry for them once you learn their "story"...so you feel bad rejecting them because of what has happened to them in their past....but then you realize that we ALL make our OWN messes and it's time to clean them up.
