"Whatever You Want" as written by Ondre C Moore, Denaun M Porter, D. Campbell, B Johnson and D Moore....
Picked the wrong time to be looking up at the night
Popular belief came down, destroyed his house and claimed his sight
Forwards in lockstop barely able to draw breath
Yeah curiosity killed the cat, he's buried alongside every great mind we never had

I'm sorry I know it's only rock and roll
But I've felt this twinge in the back of my mind
You do not have a monopoly on the truth
Believe everything you read and in twenty years we'll put you behind glass

For all the people to come see
They'll be rolling in the aisles
Whatever you want
Whatever it is you haven't got

Sentimental
Knowing when you get on that road I've got no idea where you're going
Ooh..
Before you jump you better think twice

No angel's gonna appear to offer you advice
Whatever you want
Whatever appeals to whatever it is you haven't got
Sentimental

Knowing
Sentimental
Knowing when you get on that road I've got no idea where you're going

My InterpretationThis is a song about trying to help someone who doesn't want to be helped -someone who is constantly ignoring their heart and listening to all the rubbish in the world around them instead.

The truth, however, is in their own heart, and yet constantly this person goes down the wrong path "curiosity killed the cat" - and there is a clear insinuation that this person should have known better, because they are likened to deep intelligence. "He's buried beside every great mind we've ever had."

The narrator is sad to see this person lead their life in this way. There is a tension in the words "You do not have a monopoly on the truth."

Most of all though, the narrator is annoyed with themself for concerning themself with this person for as long as they have. After all, "picked a wrong time to be looking up at the night." Perhaps this person will find themselves, eventually, and perhaps they can reunite when the truth within their heart becomes a bit more evident.

"Whatever you want" - the narrator can see that this person is filled with superficial wants and desires, and lacking in the sentimentality they once had. "Sentimental... knowing... when you get on that road I've got no idea where you're going." There's no more advice that can be given.

This song is about an intelligent person that once was authentic, who has been suckered into a brainless society full of sex drugs, rock & roll, shitty media, and no fucking spirituality or heart.

General CommentHehe, yeh i have that album too where paul said that 'goldfish' statement....but honestly i dont get it.
Could the 'goldfish' be a symbolic form of stupidity?
Please explain if im wrong about this.

General CommentI think it means pretty much what Paul says in the live recording of the song.. he is basically saying if you beilive everything you read, you will become stupid..like a goldfish. NOTE: And I don't think the goldfish is metaphorical either.

General CommentThis is probably my favorite song ever.

I think it could be about how a person can be weak in the hard parts of their life, and let bullshit like sentiments control the things that really matter. Say for example, a person flipping a coin and allowing that to decide if he should .. i dont know, ask out the girl he likes. or much more important things.

Then also speaks of how the person does it to suit themselves.. for example.. flipping a coin, then saying "best out of three", in a way that suits which answer they're too afraid to face.

And dempsey states that once you start acting in that fashion, he cant help you, and that acting in that fashion is gutless and pathetic.
