"Stay" as written by Jud Joseph Friedman, Allan Rich and Jamie Houston....
If this world is wearing thin
And you're thinking of escape
I'll go anywhere with you
Just wrap me up in chains
But if you try to go alone
Don't think I'll understand

Stay with me, stay with me

In the silence of your room
In the darkness of your dreams
You must only think of me
There can be no in between
When your pride is on the floor
I'll make you beg for more

Stay with me, stay with me

You'd better hope and pray
That you make it safe
Back to your own world
You'd better hope and pray
That you'll wake one day in your own world
'Cause when you sleep at night
They don't hear your cries in your own world
Only time will tell if you can break the spell
Back in your own world

Stay with me, stay with me
Stay, stay with me
Stay, stay, stay, stay, stay
Stay with me

General Comment^^ Anger management, love. You don't own any song. Get over yourself. Oh yeah, and the band spell it Shakespear's Sister. Try getting the name right and grow up. Silly ignorant little child.
Anyway, i just love how the video is so symbolic. Particularly about how the chick at the end is emblematic of death. She's all sparkly and glittery and at the same time, very evil-looking in a cool kind of way! I think the two women fighting over the dying bloke in the video represent good and evil. Death and life. And in the end, life and good wins. And the bloke wakes up and all is well.
I love the video perhaps more than the song but that said, i love the song. Very cool.

Song MeaningI think that this song is about death and about someone asking someone not to leave them.

if this world is wearing thin
    and you're thinking of escape
    i'll go anywhere with you
i'll do anything it takes [just wrap me up in chains]

I think that its saying that if you are going to die take me with you

    you'd better hope and pray
that you'll be safe [ that you make it safe]
in your own world [back to your own world]
    you'd better hope and pray
that you're gonna awake [that you wake one day]
back in your own world [in your own world]
[cause when you sleep at night they don't hear your cries]
    [in your own world]
[only time will tell if you can break the spell]
    [back in your own world]

Its saying that you better pray that they are going to come back to 'this world' which is the land of the living. Its saying that you bettter wake up in this world rather than the world of the dead.

I also think this because in the music video its her with a person whos on a bed with all this medical stuff around them.

General CommentI agree. I think the song is about death is general. It could apply to suicide the most, but I think mainly it's about the singer pleading with their dying lover to stay with them. Even if they don't actually have a choice in death, they are still pleading for them not to go.

General CommentPersonally I feel that this song is about death; not so much suicide but begging someone who's terminally ill to keep fighting.

if this world is wearing thin
    and you're thinking of escape
    i'll go anywhere with you

If you're going to give up i'll follow you into the afterlife; together in death.

i'll do anything it takes [just wrap me up in chains]

take me with you; even if it's unwillingly.

but if you try to go alone
    don't think i'll understand

Explaining how hysterical she'll get in the grieving process; not understanding how to live with out him.

In the silence of your room
in the darkness of your schemes [ ... dreams]
there among the souvenirs [you must only think of me]
and the useless memories [there can be no in between]

Use me as your guiding light back to this life.

when your pride is on the floor
i'll make you beg for more

When you're at your limits, I'm going to push you harder.

    you'd better hope and pray
that you'll be safe [ that you make it safe]
in your own world [back to your own world]
    you'd better hope and pray
that you're gonna awake [that you wake one day]
back in your own world [in your own world]
[cause when you sleep at night they don't hear your cries]
    [in your own world]
[only time will tell if you can break the spell]
    [back in your own world]

This is my favourite part of the video and song!
    I think this piece is directed at both the man and the grieving woman;
To him: pray that you'll wake up and only time will tell if he actually will.
To Her: Pray that you'll be able to carry on afterwards and get over this possible loss. No one will hear your crying when you're alone and only time will tell if you'll be able to carry on.

The video overall explains a lot; in some cultures the Moon is the Mother of all life on Earth. She is associated with the Spiral of Life - birth, death, and rebirth. She grants our wishes. She guides our dreams.
This coupled with the shooting star is symbolic of her wishes. No doubt that death enters and it's a fight between life & death; her all consuming love triumphing.

This is what I got from the song. This will always be one of my favourite songs :D

Song MeaningI think it is a song about deep obsessive love and wanting her man to choose a life with her rather then suicide. Begging him not to do anything without her. It's written and sung powerfully from two prospectives of just pure emotional desperation and jealous anger, A wanting for him to show her that same obsessive love and commitment, but his depression is stopping him from ever doing so.

General CommentCould 'Stay' make Shakespear's Sister contenders for the greatest one hit wonders of all time? Brilliant song, it was played at my aunty's funeral.

    General CommentBravo Lici -applauds-

I always though of this song as narrating an intensely obsessive love,

"I'll go anywhere with you" and "Stay with me"

The narrator is describing her feelings to the person she's obsessed/ in love with, and is desperate to gain the upper hand. Could be kinda kinky with the line about the chains and "I'll make you beg for more" too =P All in all, amazing song.

General CommentWhat it reminds me of is old fairy tales about mortals trying to get their lovers back from supernatural abductors. Of course I've seen the video where the first singer is imploring a comatose man to stay with her as a personification of death tries to take him away.

General CommentI have a boyfriend who is unfortunately drifting into the darker realms of alcoholism.

I relate to this song as I want the real him to stay with me yet

    Vodka is calling him harder.
