"Goodnight LA" as written by Daniel John Vickrey, Adam Duritz, Matthew Malley, David Bryson, Charles Gillingham, Ben G Mize and David A Immergluck....
I said goodnight L.A.
'Cause I'm awake in my room
I've been up for 38 hours
And it don't look like sleep's coming soon

'Cause I could break like a bird
Or I could swallow the sea
It seems like the daylight is coming
And no one is watching but me

But I don't mind the dark
Discovering the day
'Cause the night is a beautiful bright blue and gray

What brings me down now is love
'Cause I can never get enough
And what brings me down now is love
'Cause I can never get enough of love

And it's a dangerous time
For a heart on a wire
Shuttle from station to station
Noisily not knowing why

So I put my head on the ground
And the sky is a wheel
Spinning these days into things that I've lost
But you can keep all the years

But I don't mind the days
Gone rolling away
'Cause all this sunlight feels warm on my face today

But what brings me down now is love
'Cause I can never get enough
And what brings me down now is love
'Cause I can never get enough, never get enough
Never get enough, no no, never get enough, no oh no
And still I can never get enough of love

And what brings me, brings me down now is love
'Cause I can never get enough of love
I can never get enough of love
I can never ever get enough
I can never get enough of love

General Comment"I can't sleep very well. I mean you must have noticed this in songs before, but I'm up all night a lot. And this is about this one particular time when I'd been up for about two days. And it was coming on dawn one morning and I was thinking about shit."

General CommentGreat song. Adam Duritz is the best song writer ever. The first time I listened to this song, I put it on repeat and listened to it like 10 times. It's like song was written for me man. I always find myself getting hurt by females and then totally tearing myself up over it; sitting alone on my balchony thinking. Then, I go and do it all over again, just a sucker for love I guess.

General Comment:( A hopless romantic, you are... Don't worry, you're one of the good ones. You'll be happier than most.

As for the meaning of this song... It makes me think of a line from another song, "Love is not a victory marchj; it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah."

General CommentThis song amazes me... and similar to Frkboy33... i definitly listen to it on repeat!!
its clearly about his staying up all night, etc, but i think he brilliantly put it into words. also, while he may be up all these nights thinking about he can "never get enough of love", i also think he is probably thinking about his inability To love someone else.. which is why he continually is up all night just thinking and detaching himself from the rest of the world. he can never get it, and he can never give it. the "shuttle from station to station line" and the "dont mind the days gone rolling away" lines contribute to the idea that his life is just passing him by, and will continue to until he is able to love, give and receive it.
    ohh counting crows is AMAZING!!!

General CommentFYI, WickEd, Leonard Cohen wrote "Hallelujah". Rufus just covered it. Even better is Jeff Buckley's version of the song- check it out!

Yet another beautiful song about how Adam can't sleep. The guy's a posterboy for the benefits of insomnia.
