and i've got stuff to pick you up, what were you expecting?
and in the rear view mirror i saw the resurrection
and on the elevator down at the multiplex
i just pushed every button, i was just bored i guess
as i stopped and started i felt my very best
you came in without your makeup wearing your new junk store dress

your face covered in curls and tears
your eyes lit up like fifteen beers
you said your head was finally clear
you told me that you're leaving here

she puts it all into boxes on a big truck
its just bad luck, its a tough school
and a quualude and a vacuum means a clean house and a clean break
and her knee shakes but no earthquake and her ride home's on the freeway
at the exit by the campus, it's gonna bring her back to connecticut
we're gonna break you out of there, open up the window and let down your hair
lit up like a dance floor, driving down the turnpike, hope the ropes aren't too tight
i am the emperor, that is what the crown is for, that is what the throne is for
that is what the robes are for, that is what the gloves are for
this feels like a holy war, all i'm really asking for
is open up the bathroom door

up all night, i'm getting drunk and weird
we've got clear beer, i think you're gonna like it
here among the windmills, baby we can just chill
we could all be friends again
don't try to fight it, i've got scars enough
from the night i hit your moving truck
left my things with you, and i put rings on you
put myself in you and now i'm bleeding too

seems like it's about a girl who gets too into drugs and has to leave college, either to go home or go into rehab. at the end she is back partying with her old friends again.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
