here's what happened at the back of the restaraunt
couple debutants, hundred bottles of wine
i walked into the walk-in cooler
cops got him with a pocket full of powder

got my pants back, got a cash advance
got a tape deck, not the regular kind
it's a secret, you can't see it
you can't believe it, i'm the informant

and hey, juanita, well i sold you out
got the pliers on my fingers and your name slipped out
didn't tell em 'bout your whereabouts
take the train downtown get lost in the crowd and
the pigs are comin outta the woodwork
the pigs are comin in through the windows

my advice is dye your eyes
and stay inside, i told them
'spose you heard about the nightclub fires
i've got two big scoops:
it wasn't just an accident, this is not coincidence
i got tired
i got tired
i got tired
and those guys got me wired

General CommentThis song is one of the many dramatic "conclusions" to Craig Finn's never ending night life adventures. He goes into the restaraunt wearing a wire to help catch his dealer "Juanita". This was after of course the police tortured him into leaking info about their drug peddling. This is one of the most central-story based songs. I think I might write some notes for all of these songs because its all connected with scenes and reaccuring characters...genius..... and no one cares

General CommentI think that the "night club fire" has something to do with the Nice Nice burning down at the end of Fiestas & Fiascoes. Also, I will agree that this shit is genius and that not nearly enough people are absolutely in love with this band.

Also, look up "Lifter Puller Mythology" on wikipedia.

General Commenthere is what craig finn (the lead singer of lifter puller) said about this song:

"This is sort of the origin of the story that spawned the Lifter Puller releases. The first appearance of Juanita, etc. It's just a typical narc story."

General Commentone of the best pieces of evidence that Mr. Craig Finn is one of the best story tellers of our generation.

    check that with:

"if they ask about charlemagne. be polite and say something vague. like another lover lost to the restaurant raids"

from the Hold Steady's "Killer Parties".

Could this be an early reference to Charlemagne?
