"Happiness Is a Warm Gun" as written by John Lennon and Paul Mccartney....
She's not a girl who misses much
Do-do-do, oh yeah

She's well acquainted
With the touch of a velvet hand
Like a lizard on a window pane

Man in the crowd
With the multicoloured mirrors
On his hobnail boots

Lying with his eyes
While his hands are busy
Working overtime

The sole confession of his wife
Which he ate and donated to the
National Trust

I need a fix cause I'm going down
Down to the abyss that I've left up town
I need a fix cause I'm going down

Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun

Happiness is a warm gun
Happiness is a warm gun
Happiness is a warm gun
Happiness is a warm gun
(Bang, bang, shoot, shoot)

Josephine, do you think you are going bald?
No. You've asked me that before and the answer was no then.

General CommentThis song made me love Pod. Where The Beatles' version is sort of happy, this is very dark and disturbing, especially when she sings the chorus over the bass pedalling.
The interpretation The Breeders' made of the lyrics was that they were about heroin. It makes sense somewhat, especially with "I need a fix, 'cause I'm going down." The zippo at the beginning really seals it though. Beautiful song. It's unfortunate that Kim Deal did her best stuff while a junkie.

General CommentThe Breeders didnt make this song about heroin, it was always about heroin - at the time it came out it was a very controversial song. also, it isnt (or doesnt seem to me) a happy song when the beatles did it. its a great cover and i love it to bits, but the song has always been what its about - no one has changed the meaning (who do you think mother superior was always and always will be?)

General CommentI LOVE this cover of Happiness is a Warm Gun..probably my favorite version of it. It's always been about Heroin, and it's always been a rather dark song, but The Breeders took it one step further so you can REALLY feel it.
Oh, but in the lyrics, at the end during the last "Happiness is a warm gun, happiness is a warm gun" you left out the "Bang bang shoot shoot" part. I actually hadn't caught it upon listening to this version the first time, but now that I have I actually really like that part.
