all aboard this ol' train
i got to get away, i got to get away,
i see you wavin, wavin goodbye
i got to get away, as you wave goodbye
as you wave goodbye, as you wave goodbye

i'm tossed into the wake
you reach land, i hope to sail
i'm tossed into the wake
you reach land, i hope to sail

all aboard this ol' train
i got to get away, i got to get away,
i see you wavin, wavin goodbye
i got to get away, as you wave goodbye
as you wave goodbye, as you wave goodbye

i'm tossed into the wake
you reach land, i hope to sail
i'm tossed into the wake
you reach land, i hope to sail

i'm shot again, shot again.
i'm shot again, shot again.
i'm shot.

General CommentOoof, powerful. This one reaches deep. I think there is an aspect of going off to war.

My InterpretationThis is an interesting one, as it uses both the train and sailing metaphors. The singer mentions going separate ways multiple times ("I gotta get away as you wave goodbye" and "You reach land; I hope to sail"). The line "I *got* to get away" makes me think the singer needs to leave a person or situation, rather than going off to war as bucky1337 interpreted (we usually don't think of going off to war as "getting away"). As with MANY of Pinback's songs this one strikes me as two [recently] former lovers seeking new paths, new beginnings.
