"Baby, Don't You Break My Heart Slow" as written by Vonda Shepard and James Newton Howard....
I like the way you wanted me
Every night for so long baby
I like the way you needed me
Every time things got rocky

I was believing in you
Am I mistaken do you say,
Do you say what you mean
I want our love to last forever

But I'd rather you be mean than love and lie
I'd rather hear the truth and have to say goodbye
I'd rather take a blow at least then I would know
But baby don't you break my heart slow

I like the way you'd hold me
Every night for so long baby
And I like the way you'd say my name
In the middle of the night
While you were sleeping

I was believing in you
Was I mistaken
Do you mean, mean what you say
When you say our love could last forever

Well I'd rather you be mean than love and lie
I'd rather hear the truth and have to say goodbye
I'd rather take a blow at least then I would know
But baby don't you break my heart slow

You would run around and lead me on forever
While I wait at home thinking that we're together
I wanted our love to last forever

Well I'd rather you be mean than love and lie
I'd rather hear the truth and have to say goodbye
I'd rather take a blow at least then I would know
But baby don't you break my heart slow

General CommentI think this song is pretty much self-explanatory. She's in love with someone, but she clings more to the way things WERE than the way they are now. It brings into question a difficult decision to make. If you love someone and you know they're doing you wrong, do you choose to stick it through or do you face the truth and move on with your life? I think I would go with the truth and leave, because staying would only bring heartache, but it truly is a difficult decision to make.

General CommentI watched a video clip with this song so it pretty much has influenced me in the meaning of the song. Like this couple were happy together but one of them had to go off and have an affair with someone else behind the other person's back. She finds out and all hell breaks loose (not really). To me it's a very very sad song. But I don't really understand why she doesn't want the ex-lover to "break her heart slow". Why slow and not fast maybe?

General CommentI love this song, its very deep, she loves someone but knows its over. Even though she still loves them, she wants to know when they stop loving her. Its very personal to me, and it shows a very mature relationship. I just love her music!

My InterpretationIt's a song about how one person in a relationship is slowly having their heart broken slowly rather than that person outwardly coming out and saying it's over.

Instead, she's/he's caught in this large lie that was their relationship because there isn't any openess in this relationship.
