"The Bottle Let Me Down" as written by and Merle Haggard....
Each night I leave the bar room when it's over
Not feeling any pain at closing time
But tonight your memory found me much too sober
Couldn't drink enough to keep you off my mind

Tonight the bottle let me down
And let your memory come around
The one true friend I thought I'd found
Tonight the bottle let me down

I've always had a bottle I could turn to
And lately I've been turnin' every day
But the wine don't take effect the way it used to
And I'm hurtin' in an old familiar way

Tonight the bottle let me down
And let your memory come around
The one true friend I thought I'd found

Tonight the bottle let me down
Tonight the bottle let me down

General CommentGreat song. I came to it from the Ben Folds Five cover. Reminds me of a time I'd like to forget but keep bringing myself back to.

General Commentwell it's supposed to start with each night i leave the barroom that verse is first and then the first verse you have is second. but yeah i think we all have a time when the bottle let us down. mine was the first night i came across this song.

General CommentMerle Haggard is a man with a voice of soul and words of heart.

He is a master of creating tragic beauty from pain.
