I know somebody and they cry for you
They lie awake at night and dream of you
I bet you never even know they do
But somebody’s crying

I know somebody and they called your name
A million times and still you never came
They go on loving you just the same
I know that somebody’s trying

So please
Return the love
You took from me
Or please
Let me know
It can’t be me
I know when somebody’s lyin'
I know when somebody’s lyin'

I know that somebody’s lyin'
I know that somebody’s lyin'

Give me a sign and let me know we’re thru
If you don’t love me like I love you
But if you cry at night the way I do
I’ll know that somebody’s lyin'

So please
Return the love
You took from me
Or please
Let me know
It can’t be me
I know when somebody’s lyin'
I know when somebody’s lyin'

The whole album is about a lost love. It's not all that abstract for the most part.

It seems that he and this woman were in a relationship... and she seems to have "lost the spark" or whatever term u wish to use. But...obviously, he has his doubts..he seems to think she could be fooling herself..but she doesnt wanna talk to him...so he's just pleading for her to come back or just tell him outright that it's over... coz...he "knows whem somebody's lying" all he needs to hear is 'yes' or 'no'.

aint this song just so great. it makes me feel best when i'm feelin' lonely, just giving me that hope that maybe somebody is thinkin' bout me for a second. sure sure, the songs really about a lost love and chris trying to prove to her that he still loves her, but, what the hey :P

This song is a very catchy song by itself even if you dont listen to the lyrics. And Chris Isaak sings in only a way he could. I agree with zombie eater, this song really does cheer you up in a way. Has for me before. It has such a good atmosphere when your feeling down, maybe this is because you may be thinking someone else has felt low like this before thus gives you a lil hope. You sure can feel for Chris when he sings this song.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
