"Janine" as written by Michael Doughty, Mark Degliantoni, Yuval Gabay and Sebastian Steinberg....
Janine, I drink you up
Janine, I drink you up
Janine, Janine, I sing
If you were the Baltic Sea and I were a cup, uh huh

Varick Street and I drove South
With my hands on the wheel and your taste in my mouth,
Janine

Jesus to my left, the Holland Tunnel on my right
Angels shine down from the traffic light,
Janine

I fell asleep by the blue light of Live at Five
And as I drifted off, I heard Al Roker say to me:
Dial one nine hundred
Four Jay Ay En Eye En Ee.

Slap myself to waking but now it's too late
Cause I spelled your name out on my licence plate,
Janine

General CommentThis isnt even about someone Doughty knows .

The story goes that he was approached one day on the street by a drunk guy who asked him how to get a woman to love him . Doughty replied that the guy should write a song for her , but in his drunken madness he began yelling that Doughty should write a song for the girl , her name is Janine he told him .

He doesnt know Janine . The answering machine bit was done by his girlfriend at the time , and not the mysterious Janine .

General CommentI hate love songs that say the word "love" all the time and are sappy, this is the epitome of a true love song. Concise."Janine I drink you up". Those words are so simple, but it's exactly right.Doughty is a master of words.

General CommentTo respond to yiggie: mrtrout was just writing down what is on Mike's website. The "Jay Ay En Eye En Ee" is letter for letter what came from the man himself. Check yourself before you name call.

General CommentIs there any way we could find out what the answering machine is singing/saying? It complements the song so well!

General CommentDoes anyone have more info on what he means when he says, "If i was the Baltic Sea and you where a cup". Obviously a cup cant drink the whole Baltic Sea. So is he trying to say how great she is while still saying he's going to get as much of her as possible?
