I've this creeping
Suspicion that things here are not as they seem
Reassure me
Why do I feel as if I'm in too deep

Oh, I've been praying
For some way to show them I'm not what they see
Yes I have done wrong
But what I did I thought needed be done
I swear

Unholy day
If I leave now I might get away
This weighs on me
As heavy as stone and as blue as I go

I was just wondering if you'd come along
To hold up my head when my head won't hold on
I'll do the same if the same's what you want
If not I'll go
I will go alone

I'm a long way
From that fool's mistake and now forever pay
No, run, I will run and I'll be okay

I was just wondering if you'd come along
To hold up my head when my head won't hold on
I'll do the same if the same's what you want
But if not I'll go
I will go alone

I need so
To stay in your arms see you smile hold you close
And it weighs on me
As heavy as stone and a bone chilling cold

I was just wondering if you'd come along
Tell me you will

This song, it's absolutly amazing. The instrumentals enhance the lyrics, and makes what he is trying to say stand out more then he intended. He did something that he felt the need to do. Wether or not it had benifits for everyone else. He needed it to be done for himself. Now, people are like "dude, what did you do! you're nuts!" He can only turn to one person, wether it be a g/f, friend or God. "I was just wondering if you'd come along To hold up my head when my head won't hold on I'll do the same if the same's what you want"

Here, he is saying please, I do need someone for me - come with me, if you did this - I'd do the same for you.

"If not I'll go I will go alone"

He needs to get out of here, wether it be alone or with someone else. He needs comfort.

"I need so To stay in your arms see you smile hold you close"

Ok, he needs someone... I believe the "if not i'll go alone" is a bit of DMB sarcasm. Why would someone go alone anyways!?

He did something wrong, and wants someone there to run away with. Needs someone to love and hold. Do the same thing for him too.

dmb is a band that can survive through this gay pop world and nu-metal barrage we have today with a sax and a violin...that is just talent right there in and of its self

I am not religious in the same way that Dave is not, however I could not help but see the parrallels to the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. That being said it made sense when I read the comments about dave's sister and said tragedy. This song is about betrayal from the perspective of the betrayer.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about someone doing something they felt needed to be done and regardless of the consequences they may suffer either from their significant other, friends or god they still felt they had to act on what was in their heart. Now they are dealing with the guilt, shame & perhaps backlash of repercussions of their actions. Although what they did may have been for the best, so much was lost in the wake of it that was almost not worth it in the end and they're hoping & pleading for some solace now.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about a heart wrenching break up. Anyone who has been through an awful breakup has felt a heavy weight or "stone" on their chest. Let me break it down...

I've this creeping Suspicion that things are not as they seem Reassure me Why do I feel as if I'm in too deep

He has a premonition that he's about to be dumped...hence the suspicion that things aren't what they seem. He wants reassurance that that's not what's really going on (denial)

Oh, I've been praying For some way to show them I'm not what they see Yes I have done wrong But what I did I thought needed be done I swear

*He possibly did something really embarrassing. Possibly got jealous and made and ass of himself. Now friends and family think he's a creepy weirdo.

Unholy day If I leave now I might get away This weighs on me As heavy as stone and as blue as I go

*Anyone who has been through a difficult break up feels like getting away from it.

I was just wondering if you'd come along To hold up my head when my head won't hold on I'll do the same if the same's what you want If not I'll go I will go alone

*He's wondering if she'll be by his side while he goes through this awful heartache. To be there when he calls...or wants to get coffee etc. The gist of this line is that if that's not what she wants then he will just have to go alone and heal.

I'm a long way From that fool's mistake and now forever pay No, run, I will run and I'll be okay

I was just wondering if you'd come along To hold up my head when my head won't hold on I'll do the same if the same's what you want But if not I'll go I will go alone

*Again, he's hoping she'll be there for him and not cut off all contact, but if that's what she wants then he'll just have to accept it.

I need so To stay in your arms see you smile hold you close And it weighs on me As heavy as stone and a bone chilling cold

*Again, anyone who has been through a break up immediately misses the closeness of the relationship. If he could just stay in her arms and hold her close everything would be fine. But it's not. It's a ginormous effing stone on his chest in the shape of his ex-girlfriend.

I was just wondering if you'd come along Tell me you will

*Possibly begging and pleading at this point for her to stay in his life. Usually a last resort of the desperate and brokenhearted.

Well there you have it folks. This song is the epitome of heartbreak.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
