The White Stripes – The Big Three Killed My Baby Lyrics 18 years ago
I know that on the White Stripes DVD "Under Blackpool Lights" Jack says something like this in the middle of this song:
"And General Motors did it...and I know Chrysler did it...and I'm (not) sure Ford did it...and you know that all did it..."
Its hard to hear exactly what he says, his voice is kinda raspy like that...but he does say the Big Three motor companies!!

Audioslave – Doesn't Remind Me Lyrics 18 years ago
I think a lot of this song is about Chris' career. A lot of it seems like stuff he might have done with Soundgarden, especially this last stanza this is what I got out of it...

"I like throwing my voice and breaking guitars"
Maybe Chris reflecting back on Soundgarden-era, singing his ass off and breaking guitar was a very grunge-style tactic.

"I like playing in the sand what’s mine is ours"
Made me think of the Jesus Christ Pose or Outshined (?) videos...

Soundgarden – Spoonman Lyrics 19 years ago
yeah its about heroine - because every song is! you know, they have nothing better to write about. "rhymth" in this song is metaphor for heroine. OK here is how is how it is about heroine:

Feel the rhythm with your hands (you feel the drugs in your hands)
Steal the rhythm while you can, Spoonman (you steal the heroine, cause your a thief and spoonman is a code for druggie!)
Speak the rhythm on your own (you do it by yourself)
Speak the rhythm all alone, Spoonman (you do it by yourself)

Spoonman, come together with your hands (you put your hands together after doing heroine!)
Save me, I'm together with your plan (heroine saves! and he's agreeing with the drugdealer)
Save me (heroine saves!)

All my friends are Indians (Indians is metaphor for drug dealers - think about it comon!)
All my friends are brown and red, Spoonman (brown and red is the color your skin turns when you do heroine)
All my friends are skeletons (they are either dead or really skinny)
They beat the rhythm with their bones (yeah they beat that heroine with their SKINNY ARMS),
Spoonman

IT MAKES PERFECT SENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS ABOUT F'N HEROINE NO DOUBT!!! IT ABSOULUTELY COULDNT BE ABOUT THEIR FRIEND ARTIS!!! NO! OH GOD NO!!!
---
Actually I don't think it has anything to do with heroine. I thought TurnOnSnake had a good interpetation. But if anything, its not about heroine. Just wouldn't make sence.
p.s. it has a good beat lol

Rage Against the Machine – Roll Right Lyrics 19 years ago
Im glad benmuzz brought up the fact of the seventh level of Dante's levels of Hell. That's really cool, and it made me think in a different way, especially with the title of the song, and possibly the meaning of the entire song.
The seventh level is where the war mongers are sent, when i thought of war mongers I thought of Bush, and when I thought of Bush, I thought of conservative, and conservative = right (as in not left/liberal) ...Roll Right. maybe ? No I'm not saying this song is about President Bush, it can't be - that was just my train of thought.

Audioslave – Out of Exile Lyrics 19 years ago
yeah i dont know why some people are disappointed with this album.
I thought Chris Cornell was married though and has kids. Like after Soundgarden broke up, he went solo and "went into exile" so to say, as the first verse says "When I first came to this island, that I called by my own name." I see that as him going solo.
Maybe the song is about his marriage and then having kids and stuff, getting him out of exile, and not lonely. Or maybe the whole wedding reference is just a metaphor and maybe it's about him meeting up with the guys from Rage and making this fresh new band.

Audioslave – Your Time Has Come Lyrics 19 years ago
oh yes im the first with the low down:
VH1.com: Audioslave: Chris Cornell Salutes Lost Loved Ones On New Audioslave Single
--------------------------
Your Time Has Come was inspired by '80s song "People Who Died," an emotional salute to the casualties of New York drug culture written by poet and singer Jim Carroll.
CHRIS CORNELL: "It's a bunch of references to people that I knew that ... were younger than me who've been dead for years and years, up to a couple of years ago. And then just kind of that juxtaposition of, even though it seems a lot for one person, a young healthy person, to have lost all these friends through various means of stupidity and other things, then making reference to the Vietnam War Memorial and the sheer numbers of dead. And remembering that and pointing out that each one of them has a family, each one of them has friends that are sitting around thinking about the same stuff that I did. But the numbers are astounding and, in a sense, kind of criminal. And that's what the song's about."
---------------------------------------------
So there you have it! Hey we were right about the the Wall. Peace.

Rage Against the Machine – Tire Me Lyrics 19 years ago
i think the line "roll that film she's a precious, a precious one" i guess might refer to the Zapruder film.
I also thought I read that after JFK was shot, Jackie was saying "Oh oh oh, please don't die" as she picked up pieces of his skull to "save" him. I think you can see her in the Zapruder film trying to pick up pieces that rolled off the trunk before tha secret serviceman came.

Rage Against the Machine – The Ghost of Tom Joad (Bruce Springsteen cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
I like both versions of the song...Springsteen's is more sad and as Jip said more 'subtle', while Rage's is more...anger. How can the story of a man from a book called The Grapes of WRATH not be about anger? For anyone who has seen the movie or read the book knows that it deals a lot with the anger of the migrant people. First, the tenant farmers in Oklahoma are booted off their lands. They are forced to leave their homes and find work to support their families. The people suffer from homelessness, starvation, discrimination, and brutality. How could you not be angry about this? It's both sad and anger. Also in the book, there's many interchapters where Steinbeck rants about the anger of the people towards banks, police, etc.
Like sKaDforLiFe said, the last verse in the song is nearly the same as in the book, in Chapter 28 - when Tom is talking to Ma: "I'll be all aroun' in the dark, I'll be ever'where- wherever you look. Wherever they's a fight so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever they's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there.... I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad an'- I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry an' they know supper's ready. An' when our folks eat the stuff they raise an' live in the houses they build- why I'll be there."
If you haven't read the book, I suggest reading it. Also watch the movie. If you're not much of a reader you could always look at pinkmonkey.com for summaries and stuff. Peace.

Audioslave – We Got The Whip Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it's about US oppression against blacks, now, in the 20th and 19th century....not in other countries but here in America. I think it's kind of like a US responding to blacks as if the narrator was America, not Chris. Listen to the lyrics its saying: hes saying things like hanging people and whipping them and them being slaves since they were born..etc

Primus – The Heckler Lyrics 19 years ago
TheHeckler348 I would reread the lyrics I think my interpetation can be taken into consideration.
I get the "ass" part because it rhymes with mass and in the song it seems as if Les was interuppted by the crazy guitar as if he was about to say something else, probably ass. Note that the person that submitted the lyrics also added the dot dot dot dot (....)

"The perfect show is put before the mass.
Only to be ridiculed
by some slimy, pompous...."

slimy and pompous are both adjectives and adjectives decribe a noun so it needs to be followed by a noun, so anything could fit in there...
by some slimy, pompous..fish?
by some slimy, pompous..roadsign?
by some slimy, pompous..apron?
seems like "ASS" would fit best?

Audioslave – Cochise Lyrics 19 years ago
wow I posted on here like 2 years ago. for any curious guitarists, its in standard tuning and for the intro he has a slap-back delay and is simply slapping the strings with his playing hand repeatedly. Look for the video on Letterman. He does the same thing in "Without a Face" on Evil Empire (RATM).
Gorillaninja2k5 got the title. The band was interviewed on Fuse's Uranium ..and Chris explained the meaning of the song.
"Independent from the name, It's sort of about seeing people and you're life - when I say 'you' the singer is sort of like the narrator, and I don't always consider that guy to be me. Although I was in the video *laughs*. Seeing people in their lives just kind of meander into older age and not really growing, not becoming uh who they could be, and then they get bummed out about it. It's kind of...sometimes it's a mid-life crisis, sometimes it's like a mid-youth crisis, and, and, and the singer is like saying "See ya", and cutting the ties with that cause the singer is going off into a new world."

Audioslave – Like a Stone Lyrics 19 years ago
well too bad it's not a love song...
not every single song is about love or drugs..
Tim Commerford of Audioslave talks about Chris Cornell's lyrical style and explains Like a Stone on the Audioslave DVD:
"He's [Cornell] a poet, and he fooled me with a lot of his songs and that like a song like "Like A Stone", I thought it was a love song. The chorus is "I'll wait for you there like a stone, I'll wait for you there alone." And I was like "Yo, bro what are you waiting for?" And he's like "Waiting to die." And I just went "Oh, okay." *laughs* That changes everything. I went back and looked at the song and I..I got kind of saddened by what he's singing about is like a guy waiting alone in a house of death, and all his friends are dying and he's just waiting there, and I'm picturing this man in a rocking chair like waiting to die. It changed everything for me. That made me go back and look at all the songs, and maybe go back and look at Temple of a Dog songs, and Soundgarden songs, and everything, and I started going "Okay, I get Cornell now, and he's a genius." He..He fooled me for..for 15 years, you know? Where maybe I thought some of the things he was singing about were slightly trivial, but they're never trivial, he's deep...he's really deep."

Maybe that was a little much but I'm sick of hearing about this song as a love song...listen to the lyrics!!

Stone Temple Pilots – Plush Lyrics 19 years ago
Everyone has really good points, but heres my little two cents on a line..

"And I feel, so much depends on the weather
So is it raining in your bedroom?"

It's been studied before that your moods are somehow affected by the weather..so like if it's cloudly out you're more likely to be sad. I had to do something in 7th grade and I had to see if weather really did affect peoples moods, and it was so inaccurate and I actually took surveys at recess to see how people were feeling. Besides the point, 'So is it raining in your bedroom?' could suggest that maybe this girl or even the narrator (Scott?) is not putting out or something...just a thought.

Rage Against the Machine – Without A Face Lyrics 19 years ago
"They say that as soon as the wall in Germany fell that the US government was busy building another one at the border between the US and Mexico. Since 1986 as a result of a lot of the hate talk and histeriam that the government of the United States has been speaking, 1500 bodies have been found on the border. We wrote this song in response to it. It's called Without a Face."

ThalassaRaven, the Garden of Eden is indeed in the Bible, it was where God placed Adam and Eve, until they disobeyed God and they were sent out of the Garden.
Anyway, on VH1 this was #19 out of 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders. On the show they said something to the nature of the singer had a hard time pronouncing "In the Garden of Eden" and so when he said it some other guy in the band wrote it down how it sounded and the name worked: In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
so i think its in the Garden of Eden...dont know where you get the Venus thing, that makes no sence.

i wonder how the directors of the video tried to explain thier video concept to the white stripes and other executives..."ah, we are gonna have a bunch of strobe lights and have the camera zoom threw these triangles and and different shots of the band.." lol, well the video is like an optical illusion kinda like if you watch it straight with your head up it looks like your going forward and when you have your head laying down it looks like its going downwards kinda crazy. awesome song tho nice rhymth, my friends and i were debating wether
1) a bass player filled in for the song...
2) or jack used a sub-octave effect to make it sound like a bass (my idea from guitarist point of view)
anyone know?
