Minor Threat – Guilty of Being White Lyrics 13 years ago
I love Minor Threat, but I simply can't listen to this song. Ian Mackaye's argument here seems to be that since he's not personally responsible for slavery, it's therefore okay for him to ignore his white privilege. As a white person myself, I simply cannot tolerate this kind of apathy.

If you need examples of white privilege, there are plenty to go around. First, consider the thousands of cases of housing discrimination reported in accordance with the Fair Housing Act (http://tjpdc.org/pdf/dsb/forumSmallGroups.pdf). Or look to the fact that the war on drugs disproportionately affects black and latino communities. Even though the majority of drug users are white men, the majority of people arrested for drug crimes are black and latino men (http://www.drugpolicy.org/communities/race/). We could also point to discrimination in the work place (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3495/is_2_48/ai_97873146/), unequal access to healthcare (http://mcr.sagepub.com/content/57/suppl_1/55.short?rss=1&ssource=mfc), and the list goes on.

If you're a white person who opposes these forms of oppression, you might feel like it's not you're fault. But the fact is, for every black family that gets unfairly denied housing, that's more housing for us white people. And while the cops are busy harassing black men on the street and searching them for drugs, I can feel free to roll by in my car with a bag of weed in my glovebox without being questioned, because cops don't target white people for these types searches. For every black person that gets denied a job because of his or her skin color, that means more jobs for you and me.

So you see, we as white people directly benefit from the oppression that people of color face every day. And while it would be so easy for us to just ignore this inconvenient fact, doing so would make us complicit in the very oppression that we claim to oppose. So while Ian Mackaye might not have felt guilty for being white (at least not at the time he wrote this song), the fact is we are all guilty, because we benefit from the oppression and racism that exist to this day.

This isn't to say that I hate Minor Threat or that white people are evil. Minor Threat is still an excellent band with some great ideas (apart from those expressed in this song). And if the claims about Ian Mackaye being beaten up for being white are true, that's obviously not something we should support either. I just have trouble listening to Ian Mackaye express this kind of aggressive apathy about legitimate social problems.

i thought it would point out the allusion to Operation Ivy's "Freeze Up" that appears in the first line of the last stanza of this song.

Propagandhi – Less Talk, More Rock Lyrics 20 years ago
pretty much everyone who has posted on this song has reinforced what it's about. its about how everyone listens to propaghandi and its good music and everything, and even though they keep saying important messages with thier lyrics, a lot of people dont even try to think about what the song means or the message they're trying to convey. "We wrote this song because it's fucking boring to keep spelling out the words that you keep ignoring." i dont think it gets any plainer than that. most people just ignore the message and listen to the music. and i think the last part of the song, the one where he talks about fucking his friends is just thrown in there just to say something completely fucked up and strange and at the end he's like "Cuz if you dance to this, then you drink to me and my sexuality. With your hands down my pants by transitive property." he's saying "look what you're agreeing to that you could've avoided by reading the lyrics and interpreting what the song is about. you're dancing to the cool pop-punk song and little do you know that im insulting you for not reading the lyrics." i dont think i explained it very well, but i tried. i think their song "anti manifesto" from "how to clean everything" is about the same thing except for not the fucking your friends part.

Blink-182 – Don't Leave Me Lyrics 21 years ago
dont you just love how people come onto the blink lyrics page just to express how much they think they hate blink? but, of course, we all know that blink182 is the coolest band ever. some people just feel insecure about themselves and other people's opinions about them so they feel the need to deny thier love for blink182. and they cause naive (i cant spell) people like LS87 to do stupid things like, "sorry if i offended you, but SOME punks really piss me off, " as if you can actually classify people by such petty, insignificant terms. but enough haranguing, i think this song might be about how mark has herpes. i dont know if he does or not, but on the live album, he goes, "this song is about my herpes." and that i might be right becasue, "I said 'Dont let your future be destroyed by my past'
She said 'Dont let my door hit your ass' " it sounds like he got herpes, from his past, and he doesnt want it to ruin his girlfriends future if she gets it from him. and then shes like "ew, you have herpes, get away from me." but then again, you know how these pop-punk bands are with the constant jokes about stds, so it might not be true. wait crap. you see how all the posts on this page have that gray box on top with the member's name and the date and time? and under that gray box is a line? some are red, some are blue, and some are a daker gray? why is that? what's with the difference in color? it kinda makes you wonder.

leave it to a person with a user name as original as "avril sucks" to make comments such as "Pop loving wanker" and to act like an uptight elitist who is really just masking his insecurities.

yeah, who's this song about? is it about some specific person or just like some character who is known only as Jackyl? this is a beautiful song. and even know you posted last september, terraryzin, dont insult blink182. you say they seem like they're in 7th grade, but you seem like you're in fifth grade when you purposely bring them up just to insult them. grow up, you're lame. woo hoo, go rancid.

Incubus – Warning Lyrics 22 years ago
a while back incubus gigbutt said he/she didnt want a bunch of teeny boppers ruyling the incubus fan population. whats wrong with teenages like incubuws? im sure you arent that old. and just becasue some one you may not like also likes incubus, that doesnt corrupt incubs or make thier msuic less enjoyable. and i think your just one of those people that hasnt got over that fad that started a while back that dislikes all things popular. which 4entirly contradicts itself becuase its popular to be agaisnt popularity. nm. dont get me started on that. just dont go making stupid generalizations like "teeny boppers" and such. it bothers people.
