Fleetwood Mac – Silver Springs Lyrics

Great song. Very heart felt. I can't imagine the courage that it took for Stevie Nicks to sing this song knowing that the person for whom it was written for (Lindsey Buchingham) was present.
PS - marquicerise, please feel free to add contributions like the one you posted on as many songs on this web site. It is very rare that anybody goes through that much trouble to actually site quotes, but to then include the source and date.... you are awesome! Keep up the good work. I will read all your comments. :) |

The Faces – Ooh La La Lyrics

EmoDrummer00, why would you say that this is a sick song? It’s about the lessons of life (in particular the lesson of “Love is Blind”) learned from the point of view of a man, passed down from grandfather to grandson and then to great great grandson. It explains that women will use you for what they want if you don't watch what you are doing (can't say it is much different from men either). Love is blind, yes, but no matter how many times it is said, you always end up learning it the hard way, as the song suggests. The same goes true for many other things in life. |

Joni Mitchell – Big Yellow Taxi Lyrics

I love how the singer leaves the most important part of the song at the end. Like she wanted to bring up the part that hurt her the most at the end (like "Oh, and by the way, he left me") |

Joan Osborne – One Of Us Lyrics
|
In an interview, Joan Osborne stated that the song was less about religion and how we view God, and more about how we see each other. She, in my opinion, is able to convincingly show us how poorly we treat each other by using disguising God in a human form. |

Dire Straits – Private Investigations Lyrics

Guitar on this is great. Even without the lyrics it would be good enough to listen to. Add the lyrics and this is one of my favorite Dire Straits songs.
The song has always seemed simple enough to me. It's about the difficult life of a PI. Though it can go deeper symbolizing how sometimes the truth is too dirty to deal with.
I am surprised it has no comments yet. |

Bruce Springsteen – The Ghost Of Tom Joad Lyrics

"The term New World Order refers to a conspiracy theory among people that a powerful secret group has created a secret plan, known as the New World Order (NWO), to rule the world via a unitary (as opposed to federal) world government. The belief may stem – at least partly – from the phrase New World Order, which has been used in politics for much of the Twentieth Century." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_World_Order_%28conspiracy%29 |

Prince – Let's Go Crazy Lyrics

Reading the lyrics posted is so painful. I can accept misspellings that are accepted in artistic use, but this is atrocious. "4eva" instead of "forever" or even "foreva"? "alrite" instead of "alright"? "b4" instead of "before"? "ur" instead of "you're" or "your"? "4" instead of "for"?
This is not a chat room. If you are too lazy to write down the lyrics, then please don't write them. Go back to your chat room! |

Pink Floyd – One of These Days Lyrics

mountaingod, you wrote: "Didn't quite understand why the pigs were there (if anyone knows, please contribute)"
The pigs are from the album Animals (1977) were 3 of the five tracks were named after pigs (including Pigs on the Wing). During the tour for Animals (1977), large blimp-like pigs were used as a marketing technique to hype the concert goers. Check out "http://www.pinkfloyd-co.com/band/pigss/bnd_pigs.html" for pictures.
PS - If you want to know why this song is associated with the pig? Then i would guess that Pink is going to chop the pig up into little pieces and make bacon out of it :) |

Billy Joel – Allentown Lyrics
|
Here is a little history lesson for your history teachers: Ask your teacher to name one steel mill located in town of Allentown.
This song was written about Bethlehem, PA. Billy Joel decided to stick with the nearby town of Allentown (about 15 minute drive west on interstate 78) because he felt that the name "Bethlehem" would conjure up images of the birth place of Christ. The “Bethlehem Steel Corporation”, the company that employed most of the people of Bethlehem as well as the neighboring towns in the Lehigh Valley (Hellertown, Easton, and yes even Allentown) is still in business today (though at a diminished capacity). www.bethlehempaonline.com
Billy Joel was actually surprised when he was given the key to the city of Allentown. Some Lehigh Valley residents were irritated about this, as well as surprised. I guess the mayor of Allentown never bothered to listen to the lyrics. The song describes a very dark moment in American history (somewhat similar to the Great Depression but on a more limited scale). |

Dire Straits – Sultans Of Swing Lyrics

I'm starting to creek at the knees too (30) and I do remember the MTV video. Great band. Not many bands out there like them. But while we are on the subject, If I could share some of my favorite bands with the younger generation of music lovers give these bands a try Pink Floyd, Creedence Clearwater Revival, & Bob Dylan. Worse case scenario, you don't find them interesting. Best case scenario, you find that part of your life that you wish someone helped point out earlier.
PS - Another tip from the old man :) Keep your ears open, don't assume that newer music can not fulfill what older music has been able to do. Keep an open mind. |

I can not help but associate this song with Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls. But I agree that this song was probably purposely made to be nonspecific enough to be apply to all wars, past, present, and future. |

Pink Floyd – Goodbye Blue Sky Lyrics

There is an association between WWII and the psychological wall as previously mentioned. The wall, as explained further in the other songs of the album, was created from an over-protective mother (see Mother and The Trial) that had to raise a child during world war II alone. Thus, this song does not have to be just about WWII or just about "The Wall", it actually can be both. |

AC/DC – Ride On Lyrics

How this song just makes you think. Such a simple song, really. But so deep. By far my favorite AC/DC song. Ironic, because it amazes most people who don't like AC/DC. They can't even believe that they had such a profound song. |

I think you meant to say "they cut off my legs" not arms... and yeah.. funny line... but my favorite is the voices in his head that are snoring... that one gets me smiling no matter how many times I hear it.
As for pschitzophrenia, he has some symptoms auditory hallucinations [hearing voices], paranoid delusions, lack of insight [i'm not sick but i'm not well].
Anyway, I like this song because I always end up laughing when I hear it. |

Van Morrison – Sweet Thing Lyrics

I just recently ran into this song while watching the movie Moonlight Mile (excellent movie by the way). I was thoroughly impressed by this song. Not knowing much about Van Morrison, I checked around and asked others if they ever heard this song. Nobody seemed to know much about this song. Ironically, they too were impressed by the complexity of the muscial scores and the inspirational tone of this song. I will now look for more Van Morrison songs to listen to. |

Pink Floyd – Have a Cigar Lyrics
|
jimwaters145, you are, in my opinion, absolutely correct. “Have a Cigar” has a sarcastic overtone, ridiculing the industry for being your “friend” when you are selling records. Yet, in “Welcome To The Machine”, we see how suddenly the band is just a puppet in this fake world of the music industry. It is interesting how Pink Floyd saw this coming from very early on in their rise to stardom. It may be because of their experiences with Sid. |

Dsalmiitetn, the fourth verse is actually "You are coming through IN waves". This would imply that his condition (or whatever you want to call it) is waxing and waning (like a boat rocking). My first guess is the fever has made him delirious (very common in children) |

Pink Floyd – The Happiest Days of Our Lives Lyrics

I remember someone asking me if I knew the song "Another Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd, I couldn't help but say yes and starts with "You.. Yes You!... stand still laddy" which is the teacher's voice at the start of this song. The person asking me just looked at me like I had no idea what I was talking about. I had to explain how the two songs were related, almost one and the same. Somehow, I managed to look stupid even though I knew what I was talking about.... my life story. :( |

Rage Against the Machine – No Shelter Lyrics

Well I would agree that its about Americanization of other countries. Though not imperialistic by definition, it does seem to be on the same tract. I especially liked the inclusion of the line "Coca-Cola is back in the veins of Saigon", which historically was noted as being interesting how when the US sent advisors and diplomats to Vietnam they expected to be the first official American in the country. To their surprise, the billboards on the streets of Saigon already had Coca-Cola advertisements. Just goes to show how insidious capitalism can be. |

Pink Floyd – Vera Lyrics

In the movie, The Wall: The music heard playing during the opening credits is "The Little Boy that Santa Forgot" performed by Vera Lynn. Notably, the song is about a fatherless boy. Featured on the album, the song "Vera" is referring to another classic by Vera Lynn called "We'll meet again." Its lyrics include: "We'll meet again, / Don't know where, Don't know when, / But I know / We'll meet again / Some sunny day."

Roger Waters – 5.11 AM (The Moment of Clarity) Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
The lyrics sung by Pink as he huddled in the bathroom stall later resurfaced in "Moment of Clarity" in Waters' solo album: "The Pros and Cons of Hitch-Hiking" He also uses some lines which surfaced in Pink Floyd's next album, "The Final Cut". Waters originally presented the band with the concepts for both "The Wall" and "Pros and Cons", and the band decided to do "The Wall".
