The Rapture – Don Gon Do It Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Not only "You know to don gon do it" But also "You know it'll make me cry" |
The Rapture – Don Gon Do It Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It sounds like "You know to don gon do it" to me. It would make more sense in the chorus, I think |
Noah and the Whale – L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Wolf Parade – What Did My Lover Say? (It Always Had to Go This Way) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i agree with rapsfan. pretty sure it's "when shit gets hot," not "when she gets hot" |
Thao Nguyen – What About Lyrics | 14 years ago |
PS. If you listen to her other music, you wouldn't think she'd be opposed to using gun lyrics. In "Beat (Health, Life and Fire)" she says "And oh my / Gunpowder / In an emergency / I must battle without her she is surely killing me." In "Hills," she sings "I stole his name off the old army flight suit / He wore in the war / when he thought he was fighting you." Just 'cause she's little, it doesn't mean she's not tough. Hence what I said the song was about in the first place. |
Thao Nguyen – What About Lyrics | 14 years ago |
why would popular girls stare or care at her being 100+ lbs? it's a song discussing a tough chick. she's a lady, but she still knows how to take care of herself. she gets hung up on a guy, but doesn't let it get to her. she gets caught up in her emotions, but at least she knows that's all it is. |
Thao Nguyen – Know Better Learn Faster Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"The album is named 'Know Better Learn Faster' because you can't," explains Thao. "By the time you realize you should, it's too late. And I enjoy the predicament and the totally devastating, unfunny humor of that." |
Thao Nguyen – Hills Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i think it's about Thao who's taking a girl out for a night on the town. the girl is somehow separated from her lover. he's either off at war, or they're just broken up. Thao is letting the girl know that that's no reason to mope or feel down. Thao is more than willing to be a substitute. if not a much better replacement. she stole the name of the girl's lover and is playing his role. in fact, while he's just an army fighter, Thao is better. she's a super hero. |
White Rabbits – Percussion Gun Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Now even this were jumping ship" sounds more like "Even rats would jump this ship" |
Wolf Parade – No One Saves The Day Lyrics | 15 years ago |
where can i find this song? |
Sister Suvi – Deadwood Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this is def my favorite song of theirs (: |
The Pica Beats – Hikikomori and the Rental Sisters Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i don't necessarily thing "brave" is meant to be sarcastic. the "brave son" is brave. he would venture out wherever he feels he's needed to take care of what he needs to. but the critique of the modern world and society that he lives (we live) in isn't a place where bravery is necessary. if anything, it's a place the brave son would rather deny. to venture into this world wouldn't be brave. it's almost as though it would be giving up. |
Thao Nguyen – Beat (Health, Life and Fire) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Thao said this in an interview: "The song is about getting out before they do. “They” are important people in your life. There’s also a couple lines about my parents. Walking away and blaming your parents are both things that are pretty bad for adult interaction, I have come to find. I am new years resolving all over myself" |
Bell X1 – Rocky Took A Lover Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's about two lovers. Sort of a Moon River, two lost souls, type thing. They both have their ups and downs, but when it comes to being with each other, they can be happy together. They're both obviously depressed at the hopelessness of life. Both have alternate verses in which they express this despair. Yet when it comes down to it, they're hopeful with one another. Rocky tries to comfort his lover with romantic ideas of being stars while the she is in a cynical and hopeless mood. His lover offers the same comfort to Rocky when he has those same feelings. |
Bell X1 – Rocky Took A Lover Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's definitely more than this guy just trying to make up for being an asshole the night before. Electric President – Ten Thousand Lines Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i definitely wasn't a fan of the playradioplay cover. i like his music, and i even liked his cover of 'mr. brightside,' but i really think he butchered this song. i know he's straightedge or whatever, but i couldn't understand his reasoning for taking out the 'goddammit.' i agree with the liger about that. it's necessary for the song. just by hearing silence and all of a sudden that word, you really get the sense of hopelessness in the rest of the piece. just by removing that, it kills the song. not to mention there were some sound issues in the cover that just weren't as pleasing to the ear as the original. |
Wolf Parade – Lousy Pictures Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think the line "God made mistakes we through rocks at the sky Old cities where we built things high" is a biblical reference to babylon. when humanity tried to build a tower to heaven, God separated people into different cultures by changing their language. by doing so, one could consider it a mistake. God separated the people, which is the cause for war. So the line "We threw rocks at the sky" is both figurative and literal. We're angry at God, so we throw rocks at Him in the sky, but also, he caused war, and we throw rocks into the sky at each other (rockets, missles, etc). I really love that line. I think it's genius. If that's what they meant by it, anyway. |

Secret Machines – I Want to Know If It's Still Possible Lyrics | 18 years ago |
if you downloaded the song before it actually came out, then it's just 'i want to know.' if you have the actual CD, it has the full title, which is named here. |
Secret Machines – Daddy's in the Doldrums Lyrics | 18 years ago |
being in the doldrums is a phrase that means being depressed or unhappy. |
Secret Machines – Daddy's in the Doldrums Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the music in this song is just so intense. you really get this haunting and completely dead feeling of what the father must be feeling. the father is just at a point where he probably just doesn't care, or isn't able to care. he's unhappy and his wife is unhappy because of it. she takes her daughter and leaves him to find someone else. |
Secret Machines – Alone, Jealous and Stoned Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Secret Machines are so good at capturing loneliness. In this song and in "Sad and Lonely," I really hear it. That emptiness and longing from solitude. It really makes me sad for them. They must have really felt it strong at some points in their life to be able to describe it so well. This is about a kid home alone waiting for someone who said they'd be there or said they'd be together in some shape or form, but left him there waiting for them. |
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Little Dawn Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i counted 148. he seems to do it in fours (or that's how i pick it up). soooooooooooooooooooooo idk ocd, yo! |
Stellastarr* – My Coco Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Modest Mouse – The World at Large Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i get that this is about leaving everything behind you: your family, your friends, your job and everything else. people may think you're distant and they think you should stay, but you really don't want to. and despite the fact that they all think they understand where you're coming from, they really don't, and you'd just rather go on the way you're going, whether or not everyone thinks it's rite or even if it is rite. and just the idea that it mite not be rite doesn't matter and you just look for those who really do relate so you can feel a little less crazy (I like songs about drifter-books about the same/They both seem to make me feel a little less insane). |
Incubus – Agoraphobia Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"You say, 'We have forgotten how cordial war could be'" should be "You, sir, may have forgotten how good your world could be" and instead of "hollow sips" it's "hollow tips" but anyway... onto the meaning... i think incubus is noting all the beauty in the world and is upset that all the focus on television and everything else that's going on in the world, today, is so negative. that instead of fighting and going to war we need to sit back and enjoy the happy comforts of life (put down your hollow tips [i'm guessing guns?]/and kiss your lover's lips). with all the violence out there, the narrator would just rather stay inside, because he doesn't want to focus on all these negative things when he knows there's better out there. he wants whoever's in charge to end the violence before it gets out of hand. if the person in charge would only 'kiss [his] lover's lips' and be more affectionate and loving, he'd know that he doesn't have to be at war with anyone/thing. |
Incubus – A Crow Left of the Murder Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i agree with pt_mcb. it's like not giving a damn about what he learned in school or what was taught to him by his family (ditch what i read/behind what i heard), but going out to find out for himself what he was taught. even if he screws up, it's still good. he'll manage, anyway (even straight roads meander). he's going to follow his heart, mind, and instincts (from here on, it's instinctual) and experience things his own way to find out what he wants to know/see. every step he takes and ever mistake he makes will get him closer and closer to finding out the truth (every piece contains a map of it all). i just don't know what 'a crow left of the murder' is meaning. anyone know? |
Incubus – A Crow Left of the Murder Lyrics | 20 years ago |
correct lyrics: Un-learn me Ditch what I read behind what I heard Look. Find. Free. Yet! Do you get it, yet? Do you get it? From here on, it's instinctual! Even straight roads meander! Every piece contains a map of it all! It all! Evidence in the march of the ant, pulse of the sea Look. Find. Free... Yet! Do you get it, yet? Do you get it?! From here on, it's instinctual! Even straight roads meander! Ever piece contains a map of it all! It all! Out of line (and) indivisable! A crow left of the murder! Every piece contains a map of it all! It all! Everything I wanted wanted to know Everything I wanted wanted to see To see |
OK Go – The Fix Is In Lyrics | 21 years ago |
i really like the way they compare blood to wine |
Matchbox Twenty – Soul Lyrics | 21 years ago |
It's "Hang out MY window/over YOUR head" |
Matchbox Twenty – Bent Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I think it's interesting how all anyone writes about is how much Matchbox Twenty kicks ass. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree, but isn't this supposed to be a website where we comment on the meaning of the song? Well, from watching Storytellers with Matchbox Twenty on it, Rob Thomas says how this song is saying that "Hey, I'm messed up over here, and you're messed up over there. Let's get together and this could be something good." |
Kenna – I'm Gone Lyrics | 21 years ago |
when it says "revolution one on the radio" is that an allusion to the beatles? |
Dar Williams – Starman Lyrics | 21 years ago |
does this song come out on any cds? |
Lagwagon – May 16th Lyrics | 21 years ago |
i guess this is obsolete because of the explaination that has been said, but for the longest time, from when i first heard this song, i thought it was about graduation and May 16 was the date of a graduation. I thought it was someone talking to a friend that was graduating (most graduations are held on saturdays) and they'd be there to watch and be proud of them from afar (i guess the stands). Most of the lyrics seem to sound like someone is being liberated which would fit in the graduation idea. I guess that doesn't change the fact that the wedding is what the song was supposed to be about, but i still think it's a good song for graduation. I'm actually planning on suggesting this song for the senior son g in our school this year. |
Ben Folds Five – Brick Lyrics | 21 years ago |
ok, when it says "as weeks went by/it showed that she was not fine" what does that mean? was there something wrong in the operation? or...? please help |
Alanis Morissette – Baba Lyrics | 21 years ago |
i don't think it's about atheism in itself, but more about the hypocrisy of so-called "devoted" people |
Chomsky – Warm Lyrics | 22 years ago |
you forgot "Could you please just do what I say?" it goes after "I'll give you space before I go; Keep me warm (x2)" |
Chomsky – 15 Minutes To Rock Lyrics | 22 years ago |
just as a lyric correction: that "ooOOoooOOOoooOO" isn't part of the lyrics. though it sounds like someone is vocalizing, it's actually Don Cento on the keyboard playing his notes. |
Pixies – Where Is My Mind? Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Yeah, this song comes out on The Adventures of Sebastian Cole as well as Fight Club. If you like Fight Club you should watch TAoSC. It's a really good movie. |
White Town – Your Woman Lyrics | 22 years ago |
so, what? is she, like, pregnant w/ his kid? "Is it in your genes?... I'll soon find out." Maybe I'm getting the wrong message from it. |
