He is on his knees, praying for the light, which is Jesus, to show him the path. This may be inspired by "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." He can't stay on the path, he goes astray, and gets lost unless he has Jesus to light his way. | |

If they didn't want their music sold there, it wouldn't be. I'm aware that sometimes record companies do things which are against the artists' wishes, but selling their music in a Christian store???? This doesn't sound like something a really shady manager would do behind the artists' back! Maybe you are not dense. Maybe you are just naive. It is hard to tell anything about you, since all I have to go on is your own words... This site is supposed to encourage discussion about the meaning of song lyrics. Do you have anything to say? A friend of mine has the Norah Jones CD and she loaned it to me. The words are on the CD liner. The "bag of bones" is accurate, but it could be a play on words for "vagabond". My friend and I still think the song is saying "I don't know why I didn't come." - literally. The person doesn't know why he/she didn't have an orgasm. I think it may have been because his/her heart was drenched in wine! Alcohol can really mess up your libido. The gender of the singer is sort of indefinite, since it was written by a man and recorded by a woman... If you think of the "voice" as being a woman - her lover has gone off and left her - something had to make him run. Probably a fear of commitment... Anyway, the thing that really makes me think that she is talking about sexual frustration is that she feels as empty as a drum. Lighten up, everyone. I like Norah Jones' voice, but I like Macy Gray better and I think Macy will be with us much longer. Norah is going to be a "flash in the pan" if she doesn't have anything to say. She needs to write her own music, as Macy Gray does. And for those of you who don't like this - let me say that I am a singer, but I don't write my own music. There is a place for people who sing other people's songs, but they will not be remembered like the song writers will. |

I have a question for the "City of Angels" fans: I saw the movie, too, and there are some things about it that are just too weird to follow. The main one is the issue of immortality. If Nicholas Cage's character is an angel, then he is nonhuman and immortal. I have no problem with that. But, he decides he wants to be a human so he can hang out with Maggie. Why would this choice be giving up immortality? Just because he experiences physical death does not mean he has no afterlife. I guess how a person interprets this depends on his beliefs, but I can't figure out the point the writer is trying to make. They apparently believe in angels, but what else are they saying? Anyway, I love this song... |

I saw him on VH1 and he said it doesn't have anything to do with his marriage. He thought that idea was pretty funny. I think this song is about "madness". He has another song "Unwell", which is about the same subject. There are lots of people whose emotional state is dependent on the season of the year. When it is dark and gloomy in the winter, there are lots of suicides. I think he is talking about that time when he says "I feel stupid" and "I feel ugly". He feels lost and hopeless. I don't think the feelings have anything to do with his relationship with her. She seems to be sticking by him, although he worries that the mad season will knock her down, too. He knows it won't last for long because the season is going to change and life will be good again. Each time the mad season comes, he "comes undone". |

| This is a person struggling with a mental illness. When he stares at the ceiling all day, he is describing depression. He wants to let you know that just because he is sick doesn't mean he is crazy. Have you seen the video? He's not crazy but his surroundings are. It is like the way the world looks to him at the moment. But, he knows that it won't always look that way. If you just stay awhile you will see him when he is well. To me, it is a very hopeful song. He is trying to break down misconceptions about what is "crazy". This is not the only song he has about mental illness. I also like "Mad Season". | |

| big j cool has the best explanation. Just because someone makes a statement, they don't have to mean it literally. Lyrics are usually sort of poetic. If a person says "and swim through your veins like a fish in the sea" - he is probably not talking about something actually physically entering your veins by a needle. To me, he is saying she feels free when she is with him and that he has gotten sort of under her skin. She is obsessed by him, which seems to make him feel pretty good! She is cheating on someone that she has made a commitment to - you can tell by the ring. Too bad she didn't end her other relationship before she took up with the new guy. It is sort of a happy little song about a poor choice. | |

I have seen the words to this song in a Sixpence None The Richer songbook at my local Family Christian Bookstore. I didn't buy it - I just checked the lyrics to make sure I was singing it right! It was also interesting to read what they said about their own songs, since they are the ones who really know what they meant when they wrote them. There is no lesbian story in this song. The floor is "moonlit" and we have only one moon. The "moon's sparkling". | I found a great Lifehouse song book, which has Hanging By A Moment, in my local Family Christian Store. In the front of the book, they describe their songs and what they mean. They say that all of their songs can be interpreted as Christian. To me, this song is about submission to Jesus. The part about "Forgetting all I'm lacking, completely incomplete, I'll take Your invitation, You take all of me" is clear to Christians. It doesn't matter if you are "good enough", you can forget what you lack because the invitation is there. | |

I love this song. As far as their beliefs go, they sell their CD's in Christian music stores, as well as regular stores. Others that you will find in Christian stores are Creed, Lifehouse, Jewel, and Sixpence None The Richer. These artists don't separate their work into compartments. They write about the things that inspire them and you are welcome to listen if you want. The one who brings her to life is Jesus. Like alot of songs which get popular airplay, there is a dual meaning. You can look at it as a romantic love song, if that "floats your boat". |

I've been looking in the mirror for so long. That I've come to believe my soul's on the other side. Oh the little pieces falling, shatter. Shards of me, Too sharp to put back together. Too small to matter, Maybe an apostrophe and an "o" are also "too small to matter", but it helps to understand the song if the lyrics are correct. Is it "I can't help but wonder"? I hope so, since "but to wonder" sounds silly. Do any of you get your lyrics from the liner notes? The artists probably would like everyone to know what they are saying... |
