The Flaming Lips – Waitin' for a Superman Lyrics 18 years ago
Tell everybody waiting for superman (a miracle cure/ remedy to their problems/knight in shining armour)

That they should try to hold on as best they can (dont get your hopes up)

He hasn't dropped them forgot them or anything (God or whatever one believes in)

It's just too heavy for superman to lift (not everything can be cured by a miracle, some things have to be left to the individual to get themselves out)

Basically when stuff gets bad you could wait for a miracle, or you could realise that your better off working it out as best you can with the means you have.

well thats my interpretation, awesome song

John Lennon – God Lyrics 19 years ago
This has the most ambigous effect on me! On one hand his acceptance that everything they dreamed of has died along with the 60s, and on the other the positivity he finds in what he has left - himself and his wife yoko the things he believes are not a dream and he will never wake up from. Still so sad though, its like he's just given up dreaming after being burned so badly by the destruction of his dreams. On the other hand I think this is a beautiful companion to imagine in that he goes from "the dream is over" back to imagining what could be again..... genius *sniff*

Squarepusher – My Red Hot Car Lyrics 19 years ago
Ahhhh everyones missing the point! I'm not a muso but its just irritating that people are overlooking the glaringly obvious!

1) It is "red hot cock" end of story... it is!

2) Its called red hot car because it was released as a single and no one would stock it if it had an "obscene" title.

3) Like someone said dance music lyrics very rarely have any point to them - this song is a basic, obvious piss take of UK garage (try listening too it!!!!) - it's a tribute to Squarepusher that he turns a send up into one of my favorite songs! Think of Aphex Twin: Milkman, its nonsensical piss take of the macho British music which might as well say im gonna stick my willy in you..

The Proclaimers – The Joyful Kilmarnock Blues Lyrics 19 years ago
I just think its a really great song, dont know what its about but to me its being totally caught up in something, reaching the stage where you realise you dont care what other people think, and you feel something so strongly it feels like you know it without even having to back it up. Head over heels

Damien Rice – Delicate Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it doesn't matter what the song is about, it contains the lyric:

And why do you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to yah

That is possibly the worst lyric in the history of the world, whoever put in this entry covered its blushes by putting you instead of yah, but the fact remains, Damien Rice tried to rhyme hallelujah with yah. bad idea

Kanye West – Jesus Walks Lyrics 19 years ago
It's a bit stupid really isnt it? I mean all you have to do is mention Jesus in a song in America and your gonna sell like a couple of million at least. Christian music is huge, creed etc, and loads of hip-hop artists are flagrantly christian thanking god for just about everything under the sun and wearing huge crosses, they do say its not just for style! Also someone took an excerpt which contradicts itself, "I aint... here to convert atheists to believers...ya'll need Jesus..." doesnt really make sense. Ok fair enough talk about God in your songs, just dont chat like some kind of a martyr when all your gonna get for it is praise and record sails.

The La's – There She Goes Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about heroin addiction, "there she blows... pulsing through my veins... calls my name... no one else can heal my pain... chasing down my lane" its a wee bit obvious if you look at it! Lee Mavers may have said its not, but thats not what he said at first, and seeing as hes lived for the last decade off the royalties he gets for the song i wouldnt be surprised if he tries to clean it up a bit in retrospect! Absolutely brilliant song, even if it was written about heroin, as with all art its open to personal interpretation, if you want to read it as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written then thats what you do

Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
I honestly cannot believe no one has fully understood this song, which to me is the most clever lyric ever written. Yes it is a song about love and heartbreak, but there are strong religious undertones, not quite anti-religious, more satiric of the bible and supportive of the theory that people only turn to God to complete the holes left by imperfections in there life. The first verse combines these two meanings, beginning with a biblical reference to David being Gods favored man on earth, before a lyric with two meanings, "it goes like this, the fourth the fifth// the minor fall and the major lift" the first cleverly refers to the musical structure of the song, but it also refers to the rollercoaster of love, peaks of emotions from the best to the worst. The doubt in religion is also proclaimed in "the baffled king composes hallelujah", this refers to the Old Testament, in which David composes the book of Psalms, turning to religion only because he has found imperfection in his own life (Sleeping with Bathsheeba and ordering Uriah dead).

The second verse is a reference to Sampson and Delilah as was previously stated, although "you saw her bathing on the roof" is another reference to David and Bathsheeba. It finished by telling how a failed relationship can break your life apart, (e.g. Sampson and Delilah), and again another relationships to how people in for instance mid-life crises 'find God'. ("and from your lips she drew the hallelujah")
