Tool – Sober Lyrics

I saw that VH1 thing and I think the funny thing is that in 20 or 30 years Tool is going to be right up there next to Black Sabbath, because Tool is changing music just like Sabbath did. Tool, and pretty much any band today, wouldn't exhist if it weren't for Sabbath and the same is true for many band that will come out in the future being so influenced by Tool. |

Jeff, those extra 2 chromosomes have something to do with a Christ consciousness, or something like that (I forget where I read that, it may be on this site). It may sound kinda lame, but it's an interesting theory. I don't know about this 90% of earths population dying though. That seems a little far fetched. |

I think this song is one of their most powerful songs. I can relate to this song so much because the ground that I have been standing on has given way many times in my life. I love not listening to it for awhile then playing it and it sounds like I'm hearing it for the first time. |

Hey vision do you believe in good and evil? And do you think that having an open third eye is like being able to follow the energy you sense in your life, relying on that to make your decisions for you, because you can see that you are where you're supposed to be? |

Is it really me who's blind? Or is it you for missing the point of my comment? Don't get so involved in the astral that you forget about your life here on earth. It may be a shithole, but this is where we will be living for about the next 8 decades. |

I don't think that thing in the video was supposed to be a bong, it was just a symbol for a life sustaining device. Actually, I thought it was kind of like an air machine or something. But, hey, in regards to what narsil said, perhaps for you, toolpac, it is a bong? |

actually, I think they are and I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me on this one, b/c anyone who has used drugs knows that even if you don't see it or don't want them too, drugs have the ability to control you. I don't feel like going into an explanation of this, cause some people just don't get it, but Tool is pretty much against control so they would have to be anti-drug. |

Tool – Hooker with a Penis Lyrics
|
I think that this whole album sounds the most demonic, aside from Disgustipated, of all. Also, when I listen to Flood I can imagine him like a Christ figure preaching to all his listeners. Then Lateralus is so much different even though he still kinda sounds like he's preaching. But if there's one thing that they specifically want you to understand about their music it's that you should think about what you're hearing and try to understand the message and see how it relates to you. It's kind of like philosophy and the one thing that sticks out in my mind when I think about philosophical teachings is that they all seem to be wrong; and their music even tells you that maybe they are wrong and you shouldn't listen to them, because they are just like the ones that they are speaking against. Really all philosophy is, is what you personally want to get from it. You can read(or listen in the case of Tool's music) something and completely disagree, agree, or maybe feel somewhere in between. It all depends on the reader or listener. However, I think that Tool does have a lot of good messages in their music. |

You said it right there, brother. You know what's really cool? Driving in my car or walking, listening to Tool and hearing the music change every time I turn, stop, slow down, or whatever. That's when you know that you're really where you're supposed to be. Peace! |

I don't see why so many people wrote suck long explanations for this song. It's so basic a child could understand the meaning of this song. A child would probably write an clearer explanation too. And maybe the title is just refering to our generation. |

System of a Down – Science (feat. Arto Tunçboyacıyan) Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
Maybe by science he really means technology, at least that's the way I think of this song. Technology like cars, factories, cities, roads, etc. are all covering up the earth. The earth, like all living things, needs to be able to breath. If any of you are into Star Wars then you know about Coruscant which is a planet that is one big city, if that actually happened I think the planet would have some major natural disasters.
Also a lot of technology is limiting humankinds ability to evolve as a species. |

This song has no meaning except for the fact that humanity is ruining the sky.
My, source, is the source of all creation,

The skies, right before,
Right before they go gray,
It's just a funny song. |

After going to see them live, I'm starting to think that this song is about their fans. Throughout the whole concert most of the audience were chanting the lyrics. I don't know about the rest of you but I thought that it was just annoying, and maybe the members of Tool think so too. Just check out Kroche14's post under Swamp Song, it kinda goes with what I'm saying. |

Tool – Schism Lyrics

Phoenix, I don't know what dictionary you looked that up in, but schism actually means a separation. About the meaning, I think that they're just talking about people. Not the church or anything like that. The line "The poetry that comes from the squaring off between," is talking about all the songs about break ups, after all music essetially is poetry. |

Tool – Forty Six & 2 Lyrics
|
Hey Tool girl, I don't think that Maynard ever actually criticizes or denounces the idea of God. It's more directed at the church and how their asking you to believe every word they say, which comes from a book written thousands of years ago by some guy who may have been delusional for all we know. But maybe you're right about him being religious and maybe he's just using the church as a metaphore. I wouldn't be surprised, Hush is a great song.
By the way has anyone else noticed that Tool's first 3 CD's are pretty much about death and destruction and Lateralus was about life and inspiration. Maybe this change had something to do with his son? |

Tool – Opiate Lyrics
|
People who say that God exists are not wrong, and people who say that God doesn't exist are not wrong either. It all depends on the way you feel. Think about this, if there was a God do you think he would condemn his children for not believing in him if he really loved them so much? It all depends on the person, some find strength in their belief in God and some find strength in themselves because of a disbelief in God. The problem with religions is that they try too hard to define God and what he expects of humans. I believe in God (or really some kind of higher order), but it's hard to believe anything from a book that was written thousands of years ago. I find it easier to follow my own instincts and the patterns that you can find in life itself. It's easy to know where you're supposed to be going when you know what to look for. To me, it's all about energy. Positive and negative energy, the latter of which we have way too much of in America. Energy can't be destroyed, which is why I believe in reincarnation up to a point. Think of it this way, If a mother is murdered and goes to Heaven (or where ever it is that our energy goes when we die) and her son becomes mad and goes on a murderous rampage, according to the bible he would go to Hell, but then it wouldn't be Heaven for the mother because her son is not there. I know i've kinda been rambling and sound like I'm preaching, but I'm just trying to make my ideas as clear as possible. TOOL RULES! And, hey, stay positive, it's good karma. |

I just saw them live for the first time on the 21st. They are so fucking great live. They played Sober, Stinkfist, Eulogy, 46 & 2, Aenima, The Grudge, Schism, Parabol/a, Disposition, Reflection, Triad, and finished with Lateralus. The only thing that was kind of annoying was how almost everyone was chanting the lyrics to pretty much every song. Is it like that at all Tool concerts, or just that one? |

Tool – Die Eier Von Satan Lyrics

America may be one of the richest countries in the world, but that probably also means we some of the worst problems. Okay so no ones really starving over here or actually living in horrible conditions (people claim this stuff, but I think it's b/c most Americans are spoiled), but our country has some serious moral issues. Kids grow up with so much fatty food, money hungry people and businesses, sex-crazed TV shows and people, people who are unbelievably self-concious and self-absorbed, and so much other shit around them. I had a huge inner struggle with myself because I grew up in this lame society. Where are you gonna go in life if you don't live past your teenage years. And by live I mean actually being who you are not what someone else or this fucking country wants you to be...which is a controlable, docile consumer. Fuck that shit it's time to unite and revolt against these capitalistic pigs who suck the life out of America's youth! |

Yo corey, you have to stop being so ignorant. This song is about every one of these posts, because the meaning of Tool's songs only go as far as the listener is willing, or able, to listen. Yo, Phreek, you have to look past the drug thing. Tool may seem like it's about drugs on the surface, but it's actually so much more. You just have to look deeper in the music and deeper in yourself. But, i can't help but wonder if in the lines "I am just a worthless liar. I am just an imbecile. I will only complicate you. Trust in me and fall as well. I will find a center in you. I will chew it up and leave, I will work to elevate you just enough to bring you down." from Sober, he is actually talking about himself? Or maybe in these lines he is actually talking about drugs. |
