R.E.M. – Suspicion Lyrics 6 months ago
This is about only allowing shallow short-term physical relationships. There’s been too much pain in past relationships, betrayals. There is suspicion in another’s motives, and all the singer can have are dreams of true intimacy

R.E.M. – Stumble Lyrics 1 year ago
The lyrics remind me of the nightlife I lived back in the '80's. I traveled the NYC subways to get where I was going, blasted on hallucinogenics that hit me too soon. I was a night creature. I feel these lyrics as being for those of us who lived the life at night, who were together yet alone. I used to have that sense of isolation, that others couldn't know unless they were like me. I know the words appear as nonsensical, but I believe they are meant to be felt, not figured out.

R.E.M. – The One I Love Lyrics 2 years ago
I hear this song as a person with a compulsive sexual need for a series of one night stands. He/she is restless, unable to have true intimacy with another. The song is a recognition of what he/she has done, and is acknowledging those he/she left behind. Although “another prop has occupied my time” he/she lives in regret, he/she is unhappy, needy.

@[All:40751] Is Dream \r\nStumble has always been my favorite R.E.M. song. The jangly guitar did it for me. I really don\'t care of the lyrics make sense or not!

R.E.M. – Good Advices Lyrics 2 years ago
"When you greet a stranger look at his shoes, keep your money in your shoes," says people are not to be trusted, although they appear to be trustworthy. "I'd like it if I could leave and see you from a long way away" so that perhaps a person could loosen up and show more of themselves from a safe emotional and physical distance

R.E.M. – Moral Kiosk Lyrics 2 years ago
I believe this song is about sexuality that is not accepted by society. “Scratch the scandals in the twilight,” “inside, cold, dark, fire, twilight,” keeping it hidden. “It’s so much more attractive inside the moral kiosk,” it’s attractive to stay within the accepted morals of society, the moral kiosk, because it’s acceptable sexuality according to society.
