Quasi – Smile Lyrics 4 years ago
This song is great... really love the harmony that Janet adds on top of Sam's vocals.

I have to disagree with people's comments here that this song is uplifting. I'd say there are a few Quasi songs that are depressing lyrically or songs that discuss depression. Sam's lyrics can also be sarcastic, and that's what I'm taking with this song.

I suffer from clinical depression and most of my life people have told me that I should try be happy, because "others have it worse." I find that sentiment dangerous and honestly false, as that won't cure people of depression or make them feel any better... it usually makes them feel worse. And that's what I think Sam is trying to show in this song.

That's my interpretation and I'm probably wrong, but that's at least what I've taken away from this song. Maybe I'm being a bit cynical and this song is really just trying to instill happiness in the listener, but I'm just applying the lyrics to my experience (as music should be interpreted).

Hüsker Dü – Plans I Make Lyrics 5 years ago
Lyrics are fairly self-explanatory. The narrator has to make plans, friends, plans to plan, plans to make friends.... I just like the song. New Day Rising is about the best Dü you can get, but all of it is great.

Hüsker Dü – It's Not Funny Anymore Lyrics 5 years ago
Basically everything Quonset said above. This song is all about liberation. I have times where I doubt what I am doing in life or if it will work out, but then I put on Metal Circus--and specifically this song--and forget about it. The Dü are always great. Keep listening.

"Do what you want to do... Say what you want to say... Don't worry about the result or the effect It has on your career"

Derek & the Dominos – Roll It Over Lyrics 6 years ago
Awesome song with Mr. George Harrison on guitar.

The lyrics... aren't too puzzling or leave much for one to think about. Just roll it over and take it from behind. A good song about fuckin'

The Black Keys – I Cry Alone Lyrics 6 years ago
If were going to interpret blues lyrics, which make pretty obvious sense, the narrator had a girl who made him "blind" (oblivious to his surroundings, to his feelings, or any thing that 'you,' the listener, can relate to), and so he had to let her go. He regrets what he did, and now he cries alone.

Simple, but powerful. Dan Auerbach never ceases to amaze me.

Wilco – You Are My Face Lyrics 6 years ago
@[johny4304:23956] God I love Tweedy so much. He has such a way with melody and words. Great interpretation, mine was a little too literal, but I appreciate the general approach, as that is how most songwriters tend to write their music. I love the line, "Our faces stitched and sewn, our houses hemmed into homes." Great word-play and the meaning is really great. I absolutely love Wilco with all my heart.

Sufjan Stevens – Out of Egypt, Into the Great Laugh of Mankind, and I Shake the Dirt from My Sandals as I Run Lyrics 6 years ago
Totally in agreement with morgan1366

I'm not sure what the title means, and I think most of you guys have got the topic covered, but the music is very heavy Steve Reich. I think Sufjan does this type of minimalism on a few other songs on his other album "Michigan" ('Tahquamenon Falls' and even 'Alanson, Crooked River' have this sense of Reich). I love his approach, and obviously it has a Reich influence with the rhythmic tonal beats and an intertwined melody on top. It's a good try at creating minimalism, but Reich is the GOAT in that type of music. Great homage though. Sufjan gets better and better the more I listen to his stuff.

Hüsker Dü – Deadly Skies Lyrics 6 years ago
Can't believe there isn't a comment yet.

Lyrics are pretty straightforward. Obviously about fear of nuclear war at the time, and the many protests that spoke out against nukes.

I really dig the lines "I made a sign to carry to show that I really care / I've heard it does some good if the television people are there." In my interpretation, the lyric encapsulates some protesters who only protest or stand up for their own recognition and selfish thoughts they get from people looking up at them. They aren't behind the movement, but just want to make themselves feel good about it. Always resented those people.

A really simple song, but it rocks so much in less than 2 minutes. Love the Dü.

Big Star – Life Is White Lyrics 7 years ago
Can't state what Alex's lyrics are actually about, but I believe this song is blatantly about a girl he had loved who doesn't quite meet his expectations. She's kind of bland, and Alex doesn't find that love for her anymore.

Another beautifully constructed song by Chilton. Love the harmonica in the background.
