Justin Bieber – At Least for Now Lyrics 3 years ago
Bieber’s nostalgic release on valentine’s day is a reflection of the relationships of the past. Each one ending in disappointment and failure. He looks at the lady who, sitting in front of him extravagantly admires him with seeing no flaws but, just as the pop star says:

What you think is fair ain't even even

...is just a mirage she sees because she doesn’t know the scars and experiences from the hurtful past deep within, the broken hearts, the divided paths, the tears, the sorrow and memories that pain even to this day. Bur even so, he still tries to stand up on his feet, struggles to forget all done in the past and just plays along with the emotions of the girl in front of him and dance, dance till all the sorrow is gone, all the disappointments are gone. Gone, just for the moment.

Halsey – You Should Be Sad Lyrics 4 years ago
With over 41 million plays on Spotify, Halsey's genre-bending hit, 'You Should Be Sad,' is a country-pop anthem for the heartbroken soul who is finally moving on. In this song, Halsey graces her fans with the story of how she went from Graveyard to Beautiful Stranger. I’ve dissected these lyrics with a scalpel. Straight from Halsey’s mouth, I present you with the three phases of heartbreak that will lead you back to solid ground.

Phase one: Expressing your emotions
Lyrics:
"Gonna jot it down and then get it out...
...No, you're not half the man you think that you are
And you can't fill the hole inside of you with money, drugs, and cars
I'm so glad I never ever had a baby with you
'Cause you can't love nothing unless there's something in it for you."
“I feel so sorry, I feel so sad.”

Analysis:
It's okay to be mad, sad, upset, hurt, and so much more. However, to find solid ground, you must feel all your emotions through to the end. So go ahead, say the thing you've been dying to tell him or her. Write it down in a letter, a poem, or a song. Feel the pain of the break-up and then watch your body begin to release, feel yourself start to let it all go.

Phase two: Understanding and Learning
Lyrics:
“And I had no warning about who you are
...you can't love nothing unless there's something in it for you”

“I tried to help you, it just made you mad
Take a broken man right in my hands
And then put back all his parts”

Analysis:
Now that all the emotions have flooded out try to reach a cool, calm place. Work to understand why the relationship didn't work, but remember, there are two people to examine. Start with yourself. Choosing to date can be scary because you don't always know what lies underneath the superficial mask until you're emotionally invested. Halsey says, she didn't know what she was getting into, she had no warning. And once she was invested, she was trying desperately to fix someone who didn't want to be helped. You should never enter a relationship to change someone. Additionally, if you ever realize your partner is too selfish to reciprocate your love, you have to leave before you doubt yourself self-worth and break down.

Phase three: Focusing on the positive and Moving on.
Lyrics:
“I really meant well from the start
I'm so glad I never ever had a baby with you
... I'll be on my way
I'm just glad I made it out without breaking down and then ran so fucking far”

Analysis:
Focus on how positive your intentions were. Remember, you have great qualities that someone else will appreciate. Focus on the future you are saving yourself from. And be grateful that it ended when it did, If the relationship were any longer, you would have sacrificed your self-worth. If it were any shorter, you might not have learned what traits to avoid in the future.

In conclusion, Halsey realized she was worth a whole lot more than a selfish, broken man who didn’t appreciate her love. So, she expressed her feelings, understood how she got into the mess in the first place, she tried to find a silver lining, and eventually, she moved on. If she can do it, so can you. Solid ground is closer than you think!

Pearl Jam – Dance of the Clairvoyants Lyrics 4 years ago
From their first album “Ten”, released in 1991, Pearl Jam have established themselves in the mainstream through a slew of different hits over the years. Fronted by talented vocalist Eddie Vedder, the group has long sought to capture a unique mix of Seattle grunge and conventional rock. Their recent 2020 album Gigaton, while somewhat of a departure for the band, has continued that legacy, and the single “Dance of the Clairvoyants” provides good context for the new direction the band is taking.

The single begins with a simple drum loop and some backing bass, surely taking some inspiration from the electronic dance music that took the nation by storm a few years ago. The song then fills out with the unmistakable vocals of Vedder, complimented wholly by bright and funky guitar licks from guitarist Michael McCready. Also weaved throughout the tune are some radiant synthesizer lines that loom over the piece, giving it an air of mystery and intrigue, appropriately juxtaposed by Vedder’s lyrics.

The aforementioned lyrics beautifully captivate the idea of stagnation in the face of uncertainty. The lines “endless equations / and tugging persuasions / doors open up / to interpretation” are barked by Vedder, as he admits a love for clairvoyants and their certainty of what’s coming next. The chorus, too, continues to mesh against the driving groove of the instrumentation, suggesting that “every tomorrow is the same as before”, contributing to the central motif of failing to launch.

While the electronic drums and somewhat repetitive instrumentation suggest a new sound for the band, there’s comfort and nostalgia hidden in Vedder’s vocals, which really take center stage as the song goes on. Reaching the bridge towards the end, Vedder urges the listener to “stand back when the spirit comes”, satisfyingly wrapping up the message of giving over to inevitability in the face of repeated patterns.

Overall, this latest single from Pearl Jam illustrates the vitality of the band, and one can only hope that the rest of the album is as ambitious and revelatory as past releases.

Eminem – Godzilla Lyrics 4 years ago
In Godzilla, Eminem's fierce verses outshine a waterlogged chorus...until they don't.

Eminem's flow is intact, but what does he have left to rap about? His old motivations — being broke, being doubted, a crazy baby mama, a crazy actual mom — have long been run into the ground. He's come back. Fallen down. Dried out. Come back again. His best moment of the last decade wasn't even on a recorded song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LunHybOKIjU

In a standout moment of the first verse of Godzilla, Eminem has a sly slant rhyme with "hydroxy cut" and "Courvoisier". It's the kind of rubbery wordplay that exemplifies his peaks, and highlights a verse full of energetic — if somewhat generic — hip-hop chest thumping. Not necessarily a terrible thing, but the scene he paints is more bark than bite.

Percussive and playful, the first two verses could have been lifted by a stronger hook, but instead feel truncated by the lazy, soggy chorus by Juice WRLD (RIP). There are the sonics: Juice WRLD sounds bored, entitled and soupy. And then there's the meta: The song is called Godzilla, but the word "Monster" is featured much more predominantly throughout. Didn't Eminem already have a megasmash with a song literally called "The Monster" in 2013? Why are we doing this again? Is this the sound of a lizard eating its own tail?

In the third verse Eminem offers a changeup flow, but his subject matter is rote before devolving into a masturbatory, vaguely defiant, world salad.

Conclusion: while either of Eminem's first two verses would have been a strong feat. on someone else's song, this track never coalesces into a cohesive piece. Godzilla the creature is the king of monsters, destroyer of cities. Godzilla the song huffs and puffs, but ultimately runs out of breath before doing any real damage.

Justin Bieber – Yummy Lyrics 4 years ago
The song is a tribute to none other than his newlywed wife, Hailey Bieber. He refers to her as a “bona fide stallion” that he hit up any day, any time.
In the fourth verse, he sings:
Fifty-fifty, love the way you split it
Hundred racks, help me spend it, babe
Light a match, get litty, babe
That jet set, watch the sunset kinda, yeah, yeah
Rollin' eyes back in my head, make my toes curl, yeah, yeah

The verse clearly gives an in insight into Justin’s sex life and there is no other obvious way he could’ve written it.

Before the bridge, he sings:

Hop in the Lambo, I’m on my way
Drew House slippers on with a smile on my face
I’m elated that you are my lady
You got the yum, yum, yum, yum
You got the yum, yum-yum, woah
Woah-ooh

We see that Bieber creates product placement by mentioning his “Drew House” slippers – his own fashion line which features a smiley face logo and the word “Drew”, his middle name, on what is usually comfortable and loose-fitted clothing. After the product placement verse, Bieber returns to describing how essentially “yummy” Hailey Bieber is.

Lady GaGa – Shallow Lyrics 5 years ago
A Star Is Born marks Lady Gaga's first leading role in a major motion picture, as well as her return to music. Musically, we haven't heard from her since her 2016 album Joanne , but the wait was worth it. Everyone is raving about the film and the many original songs from Gaga that came with it. One of the standouts is the soundtrack's first single "Shallow". With the backing of audience cheers and an acoustic guitar, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's melody ripple chills down your spine as they sing about the urge to dive off the deep in and get away from shallow areas.

"Shallow" can relate to many instances in life, such as trying a new hobby, starting a new job, or moving to a new state. For me, when I hear the song, I instantly think of my husband. He came into my life right after a heartbreak, but with just one conversation, I knew I wanted to be with him because he was different than others. Although, I was facing a fear of being hurt again, as Lady Gaga sings "I find myself longing for change" and I chose to dive off the deep end.

The beautiful lyrics and runs from Lady Gaga rip through your core and inspire you to conquer any fears you have. Seven years later with my husband and I haven't taken even a glance back to my shallow areas of heartbreak.

Childish Gambino – This Is America Lyrics 6 years ago
This song is a shocking wake up call and reminder that America has a gun control problem.

The video displays Childish dancing around and others doing the same, until there's sudden shooting. What he's doing is distracting us and then showing us the real truth. The whole point of the song is to remind us that shootings are a daily thing in America. Despite how horrible it is, we still go on with our daily days as if it didn't happen. We make some noise when it happens, but it dies down, hence distraction.

James Arthur – Say You Won't Let Go Lyrics 7 years ago
I like this, but I guess even after reading the other comments I still have a question. I get that his love is impossibly deep for her, but after the journey the song takes you on, he's still pleading that she won't "let" go. Is this simply his insecurity?

Kendrick Lamar – Humble Lyrics 7 years ago
Question: What's the deal with the religious representations in the video? He doesn't address it directly, but is he referring to simpler/more humble times back in Jesus' day? Am I over-thinking this?
