I think this is about not taking the "traditional" paths in life simply for selfish reasons. When the narrator talks about his family situation, it sounds like:
- His father had regrets about having children and kind of took it out on him
- He stole from his mother as she was dying because it came across to him like a waste of money if she wasn't using it
- He got married and had kids but resented them because of what the whole process did to his wife's body
The narrator does not just want to take the traditional route and fade away, he resists the traditional route and thinks he is brave because of it. |

This seems like a girl who prostitutes herself as a method of kinda moving up in the world, but just isn't there yet. She's doing it to make enough money and connections to get out of this life but she just hasn't yet and is looking toward a better future.

I don't usually listen to a whole lot of this style of music but wow this song is a heart-ripper, great stuff. It's about how at the point of death, you look back at life and say "that wasn't how it was supposed to happen..." It's a bad feeling but I'm sure it is very real. |

The lyrics are pretty straight-forward: sometimes you don't see love coming, whether it be the situation or who you've fallen for.
It's refreshing to hear something this cheerful from this band, most of their stuff about love is still good, but very mopey and/or bitter. This is different and a little dumbed-down for the Crows but great nonetheless |

This is 100% a protest song about the change in social norms and removing racism from society, but I also feel like it's about Cooke rising in popularity and coming into the public eye. It is really too bad that he wasn't around long enough to enjoy the success of this song.

Like if you think about it, the crowds at your birth, your wedding, and your funeral will all be made of very different people. It just feels like kind of a "good old days" song

If you have someone that you know for sure is your soulmate, you know there is a sort of spirituality between you and them. There is something there that isn't religion, but feels like it. This is about a guy who lost his chance at something big, sounds like love to me but that's up for debate. He's regretting all the decisions that led him to this point and looking back to see where he went wrong,
I realize Pink Floyd wasn't the same after Roger Waters left, but this album is seriously underrated. It lacks the weirdness and critical weight of some of the better Floyd albums but I think Gilmour and friends still did a great job and deserve a little more credit than people are giving them |

This is about Andrew Wood, singer of Mother Love Bone, who died of a drug overdose in 1990. He was a friend of Chris Cornell's and the whole Temple of the Dog album is basically a big tribute to him.
This is probably one of the more obvious songs that is dedicated to Wood,.

This is about how music and consumerism play off each other. (Some) music preys on kids who think they're so "punk" or "rebellious" by partying at concerts and wearing shirts for bands that make them look "alternative" when they're really just feeding the system, ironically helping to make alternative more mainstream than they realize....
