Neko Case – Nothing to Remember Lyrics | 3 years ago |
Wow, this song resonates so well with aromantic and asexual folks it's so relatable. So many themes that resonate with my experiences and those of others I know in the community. Katniss is often read as aro/ace so it suits her and her story very well! |
Troye Sivan – Talk Me Down Lyrics | 3 years ago |
@[Marias:35388] That's kinda why I went here to look it up. It resonates so well with my experience as an asexual person who experiences romantic attraction and relationships. It's actually inspired me to make a Spotify playlist called Ace Vibes-- all because of Troye's song here :) |
The Lumineers – Cleopatra Lyrics | 3 years ago |
It's a song about remembering a turning point in one's life where they could have said yes to love but didn't because of other factors. (The story that inspired this song is not Cleopatra's specifically, but has many parallels so she's used in the lyrics.) The woman's father had just died (she's still wearing black/mourning) and in her grief from that major life event, didn't say "yes" or any answer, necessarily, when proposed to. As a result, her lover left, broken-hearted. As time went on and she healed from her grief and loss, looks back at that time. In every couple, every stranger, anyone and anywhere she's reminded of her lover. She's reminded of the person she misses, loves, and may never see again-- but if she did, she'd say "yes." |

Hayley Kiyoko – Gravel to Tempo Lyrics | 3 years ago |
This song is about realizing that the only validation you need is from yourself. This empowering anthem is all about self-validation. In an interview with Fuse, Hayley said “So many people, we are dependent on approval, from your parents or your crushes or your friends, and as you grow older—I’m not like this wise man—you become wiser and realize, ‘Oh, I just need to love myself.’ And then nobody else’s opinion really remembers.” |
Joan Jett – Baby Blue Lyrics | 7 years ago |
"Switch hitter, you know she plays the field / She aint concerned, oh, as long as it's real" Sounds to me like this woman isn't afraid to push the limits of heteronormativity! |

The Vamps – I Found A Girl Lyrics | 7 years ago |
He fancied an awesome lesbian. It happens. Feelings linger, but he respected hers. She's in love with someone else; and that someone will never be him. |
Zara Larsson – Lush Life Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Summer romance is a pop culture myth where a person meets someone and falls head-over-heels quickly into a romance that ends at the end of summer. Zara is singing about the reality of the parting of ways, which is often glossed over by pop songs about the high feeling and not about what happens after. |
Carrie Underwood – This Time Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Maybe it's the way that the stars are aligned That's makin' me feel this way tonight Maybe it's the words you left unsaid Maybe it's the stardust in my hand It seems like he has feelings for her, or perhaps she's just interpreting things that way because she's feeling different tonight for whatever reason. But I wanna tell ya That my heart is burstin' at the seams, yeah and I can't wait another minute Life is short, love is sweet Ain't no time like this time baby Perhaps she's just realised she has feelings for him and wants to take that step-- voicing her feelings. Romance is all about timing, after all. Maybe it's the way that the night is still Or the sound of the rain on my windowsill That's making all the pieces fit Makin' it all make perfect sense It all seems obvious, now. They were meant to be together. She feels a swell of emotions and thoughts spin around in her head. She wants to run to him right now. She might miss her window if she doesn't seize the moment. |
Halsey – Drive Lyrics | 8 years ago |
This is probably my favorite Halsey song, not just because of her bombastic voice or soundscape, but because the lyrics struck a chord with me. In her relationship, all they do is drive and enjoy each other's company, even though they both know they have feelings for each other. They are both scared to make the first move, waiting for a sign. Perhaps they were both so distracted by their thoughts and feelings that they missed their sign/exit, and now they're stuck driving down that road again with no deviation from their path. "It's so simple, but we can't stay" It's simple to say the words "I love you" to each other, but they both know it wouldn't work out. "Over-analyze again" Overthinking relationships (is this friendship? more? one-sided?) is easy, and it's easy to become impatient when one or both people are doing this. "Would it really kill you if we kissed?" Impatience and frustration is inevitable in a slow-burning relationship. Halsey is expressing a need for this person to just take a risk and make a move. It would make her vulnerable, but there's a chance it would resolve the tension and she could feel at home again. |
Halsey – New Americana Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[Jenlar7983:12172]"I think, most importantly, the song is self-aware. It's a satire on a generation that is so poignantly aware it's become a parody," Halsey said. "For me, the song mentions my mixed-race upbringing in a very tongue-in-cheek way… Overall, it's just a call to arms for the people in this generation who used to be a part of counter culture that has become the norm." |
Halsey – New Americana Lyrics | 8 years ago |
"It's this idea of these kids who are part of a generation where pop culture is so heavily influential that diversity doesn't scare them the way it scared our parents and their parents. We're more accepting of different walks of life," Halsey explained to MTV News. "So I think the New Americana is racially ambiguous, people who are proud of their culture and they own it, possibly not from a binary of gender." |
Halsey – Colors Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[Jenlar7983:12171] Tyler Posey:"I am basically in love with Halsey and she has a crush on my dad, so it's like this love square, not quite a triangle, because her mom is involved as well. Everybody's just longing for somebody they can't have." |
Halsey – Colors Lyrics | 8 years ago |
"His pills, his hands, his jeans And now I'm covered in the colors Pull apart at the seams And it's blue And it's blue..." Halsey explained to Complex: "It's just my creative color. It's like so many things at once. It's electric, and it's bright, but it's also calm. It's also ethereal. Blue is just an otherworldly color to me. Blue is the sky. Blue is the sea. Blue for me represents the unexplored territory." |
Halsey – Castle Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Halsey isn't alone-- many women (famous or not) can relate to this song. She's headed straight for the castle (the top, the finish line, her goal, success, etc.) and there's an old guy trying to put her down. It's the stigma of a woman being successful and taking the place of/surpassing/dethroning a man. Women are often told to smile, look pretty, keep their mouth shut, etc. It's often not even noticed, as we're so used to it, but when we call them out on it, we're being bitchy. We're being mean. Well, she's had enough. She's headed straight for the castle. |
Halsey – Hold Me Down Lyrics | 8 years ago |
The song seems to be born of a sexual and religious experience. They could be the same experience or she could just be drawing a parallel. "I sold my soul to a three-piece And he told me I was holy He's got me down on both knees But it's the devil that's tryna..." She wrote the song after flying over Las Vegas. In an interview, she said that she was contemplating how a place could allow for so many bad things, but they were accepted because what happens there stays there. It's a city made for vice- a bizarre concept. |
Michael Jackson – Smooth Criminal Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[Lauren3819:10300] This is actually not the case. While it is a nice story, it is one of those myths of blurry origin that gets repeated so often it becomes fact. Here is a BBC article explaining the backstory of "Annie." http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-24534069 |
Kelly Clarkson – Empty Handed Lyrics | 8 years ago |
It seems that the person she's singing about is someone who has been with her for a while, but was living like a parasite. Whether they are a sociopath or just a supremely messed up person, their baggage has caused them to only feel comfortable living a lie. It seems like she couldn't find a reason for this person's actions, but still feels that they have good inside of them at that they don't enjoy this life they are living, but she doesn't have a solution as to how to help. If she had, she might stick with them longer and be pulled deeper into the lies, becoming messed up herself. Long story short, it's a toxic relationship and she's content, if not happy, that she got out. |

Rihanna – Umbrella Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Rihanna was then asked if this song was about proving protection. She replied: "An umbrella is protection, it protects you from rain. The rain in this case is negativeness and vulnerability." |
