This song meaning seems pretty straight forward. It's about a 13 year old boy and girl who like each other, but the father of the girl doesn't approve of the boy and want him around her. Obviously, the narrator is the same age as the girl and in the same school, as evidenced by the line "maybe Friday I can get tickets to the dance and I'll take you." The "dance" obviously refers to a school dance event, which is pretty common in American middle and high schools. If the narrator were an adult, as some have suggested on this page, than he would not be able to buy tickets to a school dance. |
