@forelsket seg yo everybody has a first time they listened to some music and a way they find it and shit. It's cool to start from the beginning but those people might not know there IS a beginning or they're not ready for it. If you hate on them for that and try and claim like you were all "here first" and shit, then you can't listen to any new music without being a hypocrite. I'm not trying to diss you but i wanted to point it out since i'm all chilled from listening to this song. I got my first bob marley tape when i was 7, that shit was played out by 12 years old. Then in high school this girl tried to hate on me for just starting to listen to rancid because they had a hit song. if she was right, it meant that NOBODY could listen to bob marley, because you got legend like last month....That shit makes NO sense when you think about it...i'm gonna put this as my ring tone-good call

OutKast – Wheelz Of Steel Lyrics 9 years ago
agreed to both comments, i love to slip this into playlists. These days i can't help but remind people "that is turntables and records, understand that"...Mr DJ-yeah pretty much
This Album is art though. I saw it first hand. I was listening to rap and shit and then got turned onto this...that's cheating...

Once i had a girlfriend from Lao (i lived in Thailand), she couldn't speak much english...like none...she woulda heard Top 40 shit at the most. No hip hop or rap...
I would head off to work and leave her behind to cruise...
I'd come home from work to this girl with the headphones on, bobbing her head, she was probably dancing before i came in... to Atliens....every single day for a month or so. I don't think she ever took the CD out....
Wheelz of Steel was her favorite song.
I think it says a lot that their music transcends cultures and languages so easily. I saw the same thing in Indonesia where i live most of the year...i didn't know they had a new song out, then one afternoon i heard Hey Ya...It was banging and the whole alley felt that way. everybody nodding their heads... this girl dancing-still sitting, but the upper body was going- that's like her putting it out there at the same level as a girl in a western country twerking would be...

what no comments?!
"Sade is in my tape deck, i'm movin in slow motion BUOI!"
i'm not from west savannah, or the hood, but i still like to drop this rhyme bout where my roots at, i figured everybody did!
The trumpets are a unique touch....hard to be unique-Outkast has always pulled it off though.
A lot of years to keep in mind that "you only funky as yo last cut!"

OutKast – Rosa Parks Lyrics 9 years ago
The second verse is pretty meaningful for this genre, I've always found Outkast to try and bring that in their songs, and they rep it.... i thank them for that!
It's nothing TOO profound, but good to remember
Said baby boy you only funky as your last cut
You focus on the past your ass'll be a has what
that's one to live by or either that one to die to

whether we think it's fair or not, the world mostly just judges us by what we're achieving at that moment.
Better keep in mind-it's all an illusion anyway, a dream your mind made up...don't take any of it too seriously. GOOD LUCK!!

@[thelyricalgenius:1671] your interpretation is a reminder for me that we all interpret everything in life with our own experiences acting as a filter, influencing our whole world...so that every single person's world is their own and there is no right or wrong answer. That is the meaning of this song...and it's the meaning of this whole SITE!!

ok i now am thinking that the song is about how just when you think you're the shit, and your ego drives you to ridicule somebody, the balance of the universe will show you what's up, and you'll be wishing you'd been more humble, because you have some typos in your post, and you even accidentally posted your comment 3 times...so it's sort of The Naked and Famous' take on the Ice Cube classic "Check Yo Self"... but with a tinge of a youthful theme sprinkled on like a bittersweet garnish

I know that you have the right to express yourself in any way you want and that's the point of this website, but honestly, i just can't help but question if these 4 words of yours needed to make their way onto my screen. Because, well honestly, i just don't see how you could get that this song was about youth, where in the song does say something along those lines, or even indirectly imply it. I mean really not until the third word do they say something even remotely related to age. In the spirit of openmindedness, I'll take the interpretation on board, but............ ONLY because the first line of the song basically SAYS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WROTE. Solid effort. Thanks for bringing out collective consciousness one notch higher. Sorry for the sarcasm folks, but well, i think the song is about sorting people out who aren't putting much effort into life...and how it can cause turmoil but eventually they'll fall back in love with you. So when the sarcastic mood begins and it is hard to control, it's ok to let it flow. it's natural to look at the flaws in things, even if we're trying to claw our way out of a negative thinking pattern...maybe just trying to not say it as loudly is a good start to correcting things you don't like about your character. This song is about a person realizing that shit, and then the whole irony of it is that at the end the person he was explaiining himself to flips it back around and is like "yeah yeah yeah yeah"...

@[SarahW103:552] haha check out geovs20!
i like this site, it made it very apparent to me that we basically just interpret songs, and life from our own experiences and beliefs...like this guy who i would bet my life savings is quite sure he's been abducted by aliens. I think this song is about Nick Diaz, the UFC fighter, and how he knocks people out...because i heard it first in a highlight reel of him...but THEN, i saw a highlight reel of Conor Macgregor using the same song and now i kinda think it's maybe about how no one even pays attention to what's going on around them, and takes no responsibility....like the idiot who put a UFC highlight video to a song that another UFC highlight video uses.
SEE HOW I DID THAT? the german guy just sums it up in his first few lines, those germans, quite clever...but i think they tend to overcomplicate their machinery...
oh maybe that's what this songs about, a marine engineer who forgot to check the oil, and the captain asked "did you check the oil?" and he said "yep" and then the captain handed him the oil dipstick and he was looking for an excuse...so he then lied some more and blamed it on his add, and then when the guy got more mad he threatened to kill himself so people would back off. And then in the end....the engine breaks, because they BOTH have add, and there was no oil....and they had to sail the rest of the way. yep...nailed it!!! Does everyone get what i'm saying here? how about relax and keep in mind only you see the world from your eyes, so there's like no actual "right or wrong" fuck, that kinda doesn't even make sense. i'm all ADD and ass-burgering...sorry.

@[dkrauter:538] i think he meant "raising an army" like, they would seriously get it on, in an "intimate sense" when they got back to her place...i've never heard the term "raise an army" used in either sense...in the usa we just mean like we're going to war when we say that i guess. hahaha (sad)
urs makes more sense. since he'd probably call it "raising a soldier" vs "an army" if he meant it the way i though...
I would like to add though, even though yes we are addressing a fictional narrative poem... jeeze, imagine-he's now 81 and what he recalls the fights? I sure do hope they broke up like when he was 79 and a half...that'd be acceptable but still already time to let go. otherwise, what a bitter old guy....we really should not hang on to the negative parts of the distant past. It severly affects your ability to have a positive outlook on your life- i am speaking from experience. First, your most likely just bitter at urself anyway...so immediately address that, and then, just keep the memories of the good stuff in the forefront of your mind, because after all, you were just having a go, first time and all...it never works out perfectly. Good enough has to be that.

@[aaronsc:537] cool, sounds spot on to me...
i'm kinda wondering about the "snapshot when you've lost the game"...i am not thinking it has any significant meaning to the OVERALL meaning of the song...so it's kinda irrelevant but i'm curious, it mean?
ok, a snapshot, that'd be a photo, is overrated when you've lost the game, so like you don't want a picture of a moment in a game you lost? That seems to be the only meaning, interesting that for his comparison of how overrated sympathy between them was, he chose something so arbitrary...bcse personally i wouldn't mind a snapshot of a game i was in where i lost, especially if it was doing something cool... So this one is going over my head or making me scratch it. For such deliberate lyrics...seems like an odd choice. But, i have faith i'm missing something, or i'm just a lot more vain than other people but i even like barrel shots of barrels i didn't come out of. THey ARE overrated though...anyway, not criticising, how could you?!

i think "blame it on my ADD" is a line that sounds cool so they guy wrote a song around it because every other person claims ADD and it could be their automatic anthem. all the rest of the lines are sorta catchy "one liners"....and all related, so i like the interpretations people have...sometimes i wonder if people just write stuff because it sounds cool.
Like him singing into that tape recorder...and i thought everyone was like using computers to make music nowadays...cool that he used some yardsale find to make his voice sound different...
(yes i'm joking about the computer part)
I've done a fair bit of sailing, you kinda need to focus, and ur generally going slow and focusing on tiny details to gain very small increments of speed. So i just don't know how well someone with ADD would do.
Probably Aspergers would be the go for successful sailing.
This is a pretty cool song and cool lyrics with great interpretations from all you special people sharing about your experiences with ADD...you probably stopped reading by now didn't you...
From us "normals" out here, sending you "ADD"s a message, share a pill or two when we have big tests coming up...we need to study too. And i think everyone's ADD about calculus at the very least. so, be fair. don't horde them. THANKS

@[StarBar:536] are you academically trained on the human mind at all, because if so. i would like to use paragraph two from your interpretation to cover for me now whenever people....(alright, i guess they're basically only ever females), call me "callous"...(generally not ever actiually using that exact word, but it's what they mean they just have limited vocabularies)
Stoked about this new info i've just acquired...
i don't have ADD, i've tried snorting ritalin and it just kinda like keeps me awake. which is proof you don't have ADD btw, if you ever wanna test yourself, you just abuse the ADD medications and if you get like all calm and stuff, you're ADD, if you get like all hyped up ready to party, you're not ADD, you're something else.
But we now know-the one thing that you're not, is "callous"....so just keep your chin up!
"Intellectual disabilities" It's actually kinda a politically incorrect term, sorta callous,....i think you should edit this and make it "alternatively abled in an intellectual sense from birth". then maybe add a * and have at the bottom: " *not a learned behavior". i mean it's kinda wrong to lump us in with the "down's syndrome people," or the "slow people" or any other way there is to be a retard for that matter! and my uncle is retarded so i'm allowed to say that, don't you jump on ur high horse just yet readers...
Crazy is also a popular term people used and since someone who's crazy is insane, you can call em crazy because they ARE, and also because they're crazy and have less rights and all that. Nobody's going to listen to them...they're crazy!!
NOW THAT WE'VE CLEARED THAT UP....
I want to add------>" mitch77" you're a dick for making a list of adjectives people have to adhere to if they "love" something. especially the etc, etc etc part-thanks for narrowing it down and spelling it out for us genius!
To critique your reply....,
Iyou nailed: "needless verbosity, pomposity, close mindedness, and general unawareness"....for that, i felt you needed to be sorted. aka told, so you can think about what you said for a little while.
LOVE- it's four letters stuck together, probably going to be pretty open to interpretation...i personally feel like i'm allowed do it however it comes out. Or how the other person feels...like what if they need S&M to feel love....well that switches up ur list just a bit now does it, or did you cover that in one of ur ETCs....?
I have experienced so many people in my lifetime taking the liberty of saying how other people are supposed to act emotionally. How's that work if we're all individuals? it's like emotional racism or discrimination
Seriously though if we have a list of how we're supposed to act out our emotions, and all humans have to follow it, there should be a manual. mitch77 you should write one. just use like "etc" after a few random words, sell it to the "for dummies" franchise and you'll be rich. sadly there probably already is one. Well this comment sure did go south. Just sayin... "love and let love!" etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc and that people like mitch77 suck. actually i'm making the call, anybody that makes a list of demands of what you gotta do or else you don't love someone or something, doesn't deserve love. that would keep them from being all whack about not getting what they want and blaming it on other people...(i realize i guess if people adhered to that new guideline of mine, then actually it WOULD be other people's fault at that point, because it'd be intentional...but i'm leaving this all in there...because i'm intellectually disabled in the "sorta insane" way-because i think shit like that's funny). Good Morning People!!!

i think that the general line of thought, irregardless of the artist's intentions, is that people have come to feel like this song is about not wanting to be the one depended on, i.e.; the cornerstone, which is the stone that holds everything up. The most important stone. Bible or Bob Marley, the head cornerstone is always spoken about. i don't live in the USA permanently anymore but i was home when this song became popular. I was in a rocky relationship where i just didn't think i could fulfil the things i was expected to do....
when we were breaking up, i told my wife "don't you remember when that song would come on, how i would turn it up and sing along to that part"? and explained that i wasn't trying to say it at the time to her, but i sure felt, that i wouldn't ever be her cornerstone, which is what she wanted from me...she said "well you don't WANT to be"...i said yeah, that's the next line of the song!! (as i was pretty sure it was at the time). might be but i'm to lazy to scroll up, i'm ya'lls cornerstone either.
in the end (even though time is an ocean and not a shore) i pretty much left, and one other thing...i sometimes feel like he seemed to be implying in the song when he goes onto saying about burying the pictures...-i think my kid and my ex might be better off without me altogether, so maybe just bury the pictures (memories included) and tell my kid that i'm ok. maybe they'll call on my birthday or something. i like this song even though it makes me want to shoot myself. which is a sign of a pretty good song! hahahahha

Cold War Kids – We Used to Vacation Lyrics 9 years ago
wow, for me this song is so straightforward...
the guy is an alcoholic, in the end non-stop drinking stage.
the title is "we used to vacation"...because they used to have money to vacation and the alcohol issue was more in control, you can pull things like vacations off way better when you're not just on an endless bender, which is what he describes

the rest is just as it reads for me.
i'm surprised the whole graduation verse needs interpreting. so i'm gonna just leave that.
cool that he borrowed a line from a bob dylan song, probably listened to bob dylan a lot and paid some subtle homage, or just plain "bit the line".
so the main point is:
the alcoholic is still rationalizing his behavior....that's it.
the chorus says:
"hey look, we didn't get killed by a tsunami like those people on TV, we're all healthy, my check is in the mail, so we have enough money to live...what's the big deal if i "mix a gin"?
ever met or been an alcoholic? they feel the alcohol till 2 drinks and don't know they're drunk until they fall into something and wake up later. makes one a bit accident prone, at which point he decided he would never drink again.
and that is easier said than done so he just needs some time and he'll be finished with it.
he even tried to go to some meetings.
compared to sinking into oblivion.... going to meetings makes you feel so empty.

for me, this song wasn't being metaphorical at all...
it is cool that they pulled off a catchy song without getting all abstract.

The Knife – Heartbeats Lyrics 9 years ago
@[danielp1:350] yeah good one, i don't think she feels so cheated though, maybe it's just that they were sharing their individual heartbeats because they felt so close. since the song's lyrics seem pretty based on rational thinking, saying that their "hearts beat as one" seems almost cliche and below the rest of the song, and illogical, because that doesn't happen. But sharing a different heartbeat is totally a feasible thing. makes way more sense too.
about the hands from above part...perhaps she's rationalizing the agreed up, physical only, limited relationship, because it's usually considered a socially unacceptable so we are programmed not to do this, and some may even need to assuage there guilt about it.... "two hands from above to lean on aren't good enough for me"...so, she that's why she shared heartbeats...and a little bit of bodily fluid. :)

Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics 9 years ago
I'm not too old to have listened to this but i guess like 500 times maybe....kinda was feeling a bit tired, but it gave me a spark the other day...i was digging around in my bag, and got these eyedrops on my hand by accident, i licked them off because i had no napkin....i then put in my headphones and began a 6 hour boat drive.
Unplanned, this song came on, and i listened closely to the lyrics again since the first time since i was a teenager...
the thing that struck me as i listened, and made me rewind for another listen, was the two riders approaching right at the end of the song. i've always had the impression that the joker and the thief are planning an escape.
i thought for the first time that those two riders were directly related to the two first characters introduced in the song.
I think the joker and the thief are jailed, so i figure they must've ended up there come upon the castle to ply their trades and get rich, probably had a nice plan all laid out. foolproof of course.
but they ended up getting jailed, (like a lot of people feel in life) and are now going to escape and start over...
so, again, the two riders approaching at the end of the song must carry significance if they're the last line of the song...i thought at the time i'd hit the meaning of the song...i was picturing them as a joker and a thief too, no doubt looking for a "way out" (MONEY!!! need that because the businessmen and plowmen have it and with all that wine and earth, you would think they felt relief if you had neither)
The riders are in fact, just like the joker and the thief.
That lead me to thinking perhaps it was touching on the belief that life is a series of cycles and if you believe in reincarnation, it goes on and on forever....
but, just like everything else, we all interpret everything from our position and experiences, so what i just wrote more likely reflects on my life than the song!
Speaking of....i gotta get going out of this castle, getting late so i won't talk falsely: i've got a plan to put into affect, and i'm sure this one will bring me relief!....
