I feel that the note he wrote was a rejection. Some girl was obsessed with him and he flat out turned her down because he wont share himself. He wants things out of his life. He wants his music career. he wants his freedom. This is *his* time, and the last thing he needs is a entangled relationship. |

@[BillyBudd:5522] Agreed. Yes, a lot of Smiths songs are about non-heteronormative relationships...but that's mainly because he just makes everything gender neutral. But seriously...not EVERY song is about his homosexuality. To paint it into that corner is to deny The Smiths their depth. |

I think that its a dream kind of song. At the beginning, he is trapped inside and blows a hole in the sky. The crow that comes in is his inspiration on HOW TO GET OUT. He builds a ladder to the hole and escapes...but he stretches the strings over the hole (the hole in the sky is the hole int he guitar) to keep the crow (his inspiration) locked inside...so he remember where he has been. When he plays the guitar, it reminds him of that place he came from..that dark time trapped inside. |
