It seems like a spiritual song. There's a lot of metaphor and vague language - it's prophesy-like. Children born to get high Turn your heads to the sky People are hiding from the truth and from their lives because that's just what is expected from them. The singer wants them to see the light, whatever that may be. With a thorn in the side And the ocean too wide And the avenues so long People are suffering, and the world is too big. Even our own creations are larger than life and a person is insignificant in the face of that. A solitary night bird is singing Over thunder-crack you're hearing The voices of reason and life are almost drowned out by the noise. There's a wraith-like like shadow appearing And though my eyes are veiled Though the present is difficult and painful, something positively horrifying is coming - at least if the singer can trust his judgement, which isn't perfect. I'm looking for the rain to fall Won't a higher power come wash it all clean? Or maybe he's talking about the biblical flood here and he wants it all washed away. |
