Just like Personal Jesus and some other songs, it didn't occur to me that this song was about heroin. I've never tried heroin, thank goodness. But reading the first interpretation that the song was about heroin, it was obvious to me that this was the correct interpretation. It's a brilliant song. Not quite perfect, but brilliant. The first time I heard the first part of the song, I thought it was going to be a true love song, then it took an ugly turn. He just kept me hanging on. |

I certainly hope you've managed to kick this addiction -- I have never tried heroin, but it sounds like getting off the stuff is damn near impossible. I will say a prayer for all addicts. God bless you. |

Right on target, Jeema It is a creepy, depressing, brilliant emotional song. I can't believe I was so stupid as to not associate this song with heroin addiction, as heroin was such a big part of Lou Reed's life, and as so many other songs are likely about the same subject (e.g., Personal Jesus). |
