Chant̩ Moore РTrain of Thought Lyrics 26 days ago
This is about being in an unstable relationships. The narrator gets home by the subway after a stressful day, she is worn out and realises her man isn't home yet. She wishes he was there, crying lemon tears, feeling he would be offensed by her description of that tiring day. She feels helpless and needs him/his eyes/his arms to comfort her at night, even thanking him for his gratitude as she anticipates the scene.

Ariana Grande – Break Free (feat. Zedd) Lyrics 2 months ago
@amirbe Read the lyrics again earlier this week, IMHO that was my favourite smoking cessation song in December 2014. I successfully got out from a toxic relationship with a workaholic ex-boyfriend, then from that occasional tea-tobacco-mania associated with temporary burnouts. Thank goodness I don't smoke cigs anymore!

Lloyd Cole – No More Love Songs Lyrics 2 months ago
I listened to it again yesterday, it's a song from 20 years ago, 2003 exactly, during the "slows quarter" those 4 a.m. nightly sessions, when I often enjoyed any kind of music in a foreign language (the album name), and it strangely reminds me of how I was at the time : I was 18, my fiancé and I broke up a few months before, I was hanging around/chatting on the Net with twentysomething musician men, well, I did not follow them on tour, though my ex-fiancé was both "beautiful and eloquent", and where (I) went, (he) went. Drinking sodas (not whisky since some of us did not) was a way to start a friendship, then. Among them, looking for some company, to have a drink but not for love, was Théo, a mysterious tourist, singer and guitarist, velvet-voiced cartomancer who had fallen off a wagon, who also moderated chats on Sundays, was he smiling at them or was he smiling at me?

I don't like Cole too much but he has talent, a distinguished and tortured baritone with irresistible and elegant tones, and such a perfect diction too so I understand the words right. Though both have jaded their voice from smoking and alcohol, I must admit I like Adam Cohen more than Lloyd Cole, personally, so let's stop the comparison here. Though we lived each other apart, my nightly companion himself later recognized he would spend a few weekly nights reading books, fueled with cigarette smoke/nicotine gum and 2 or 3 cocktails, since he was on "loverdrive" (stressed and under pressure) when this song came out. No doubt we both associate smoking ciggies to being on overdrive and alone, not to "peace" at the start of a friendship, and surprisingly we both quit 10 years later, when we reconnected evenly after a few years apart. I felt "broken and discarded" since I lost interest in going to school, so our friendship would lead us to "drink to harmony, peace and disarmement". And the title kinda suited us at the time, since it was the beginning of two night owls' friendship. My memory may be jaded from drinking fruity soda but I have not forgotten this song, and judging by his looks, musical taste and attitude, my 'brother' Théo must be more a Cole fan than I am, so I'd give a C as in Cole, to this pretty good song.

Lloyd Cole & The Commotions – Forest Fire Lyrics 2 months ago
Distinguished and tortured baritone, with irresistible and elegant tones. Cole has talent maybe though fell back to oblivion. Really? I recognize his voice is just jaded from smoking and alcohol... After his first solo album anyways, but yeah, that is quite obvious. I don't really like Cole but I listened to this single on the radio and it is God tier!

The singer's voice/look in the video, the forest fire in Greece last summer and the "your favourite song by..." remind me of a musician/singer/cartomancer friend, later nicknamed The Mystery Man, Théo, whom I met in 2002 : it is his favourite Cole song, and Greece is his favourite holiday destination. He is a baritone and plays guitar too, no doubt he jaded his voice from cigarettes and cocktails too (as a tourist, he said), though with enough ability to imitate other singers of this style (both of us like imitating singers but I'm more versatile vocally speaking). That's what I realised when Théo and I reconnected evenly in late 2014 after a few years of absence (he is now a father of one, a son). I can't remember the first time I listened to it, but I remember listening to it on the radio in 2004, which was also my last year of post-breakup depression. Though I'm much cleaner than my friend, I closely associate this song to Théo.

Punctual – Smoke Ring Lyrics 1 year ago
In the middle of the night, in a club in London, on a Saturday : for a month and a half, a boy has been trying to seduce the same girl, without success. But there, seeing her in the middle of her friends, it is he who loses control. He may have suffered previously and his post-breakup depression may not be over yet. And while they are dancing against each other, he feels completely dizzy and comes to him an irrepressible urge to get out of the disco with this girl, to light up her gaze, or warm her up, whatever. For this, the boy would like to prove that the seduction attempt worked, far from the dance floor : a circle of smoke.

The classic cliché of the last one of the class who would like to conquer the best student in the group. The girl is pretty and the boy is patient.

The singer is Gez O'Connell, that of R I T U A L, (a rare pearl) that I discovered thanks to Kungs' single. Too bad his voice is drowned in an electronic rhythm, using the same recipe as the successes of Regard "Ride It" and Maroon 5 "Memories". Nevertheless, there's a secret that reminds us of this era of 2007/2008, when nightclub music was king.

Miossec – Les bieres aujourd'hui s'ouvrent manuellement Lyrics 1 year ago
Our history does not date from yesterday
Because if we listen to it, we hear it
Suffocate, spit mucus.
One wonders how it took a step forward.
That will always remain a mystery to me
How the body gets used to when love dies slowly.

Without even having had the flair one day
That the flesh is slowly dying out
I think it's the night you turned out the light
Turning you on your side.
The next day, we woke up behind against behind.
The next day, we woke up with our backs as screens.

Do you remember the sound of our spoons
Which is dead? It felt like a funeral
But it was the two of us who went underground
When you told me that at night, I had cringed.
Then you asked me why I was on edge
Why I was so nervous lately.

You told me I should even open a beer.
You haven't told me for so long
That I didn't even know how to do it anymore.
Beers today are opened manually.

You told me I should even open a beer.
You haven't told me for so long
That I didn't even know how to do it anymore.
Beers today are opened manually.

A few weeks after listening to this song, so that was last month (February 9, 2022), I had a weird dream about pregnancy... I was going to be a mother with my fiancé, 5 months pregnant with our first child at 36. I was at some closure event, without my fiancé though, the day before I announced my followers I was expecting a girl, without posting photos - those paparazzi made the closure photos leak. It was so weird seeing myself in photo, how my mummy belly showed under the form-fitting T-shirt... Either I decide to have a kid or delete it from my consciousness, the former would make it worse and the latter is happiness. But I\'m not pregnant. Some days I just have weird dreams.

U2 – One Lyrics 2 years ago
A French teacher was brutally murdered by a Russian terrorist in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine more than a year ago. At the opening of the teacher\'s national funeral, it was one of his favourite songs.\n\nRemembering the French geography teacher who got decapitated on October 16, 2020. Mr. Samuel Paty. As the next week started, tears took over, between sadness and indignation. 5 days later, I felt a premonition in the morning : because of that and not my accentuated shyness, I refused to sing in front of my parents, and both respected my decision that I had the right not to sing. That evening, I haven\'t watched his national funeral on television but I heard how it was on the 5am news, the following day. And a big smile on my face, a sign that my premonition worked : there was this song from 30 years ago at the beginning, a wonderful, universal brotherhood anthem, one of the teacher\'s favourites, and it means a lot to me because this band reminds me of my youth.

U2 – I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Lyrics 2 years ago
As usual, Bono\'s lyrics have different interpretations. As a teen, I thought this song was about civil wars, because I misunderstood "city walls" as "civil wars", in the same vein as "Sunday Bloody Sunday".\nNow that I\'m grown-up, mine could be about a person who, despite having a son or daughter from a straight relationship, feels like they\'re more attached to the LGBT community, so they\'re telling their child that the couple either split or divorced due to the narrator\'s coming-out.\n\nFirst verse.\n"I have climbed highest mountains, I have run through the fields, only to be with you." There, the narrator identified himself as a straight man, and recalls his experience before becoming a parent.\n"I have crawled, I have scaled these city walls, only to be with you." That\'s parenthood. The couple\'s child was born, so the narrator went in a hurry to welcome the little one, but he started to get in mind that he would raise the child with a same-sex person rather than with his girlfriend/wife.\n\nSecond verse.\n"I have kissed honey lips, felt the healing in her fingertips, this burning desire." So, no doubt about it, the narrator is a man who has become a father, and he and his girlfriend/wife spend time together to take care of their child.\n"I have spoken with the tongue of angels, I have held the hand of a devil, I was cold as stone." The narrator felt happy at first with the mother of his child, but at one moment, he told her he would split from her, because he was close to his coming-out.\n\nThird verse.\n"I believe in kingdom come, all the colours bleed into one, and yes, I\'m still running." Think of a condom and the rainbow flag : the narrator has been in favour of LGBT communities for a long time, before his child was born, though he did not identify himself as gay or bisexual yet.\n"You broke the bonds, you loosed the chain, carried the cross of my shame, you know I believed it." The narrator now identifies himself as a gay or bisexual person, but felt ashamed of having told it to his now ex-girlfriend/ex-wife, and is the victim of homophobic words. His child is the only person who can give him some comfort, but not only...\n\n"But I still haven\'t found what I\'m looking for." The narrator and his child are looking for a safe haven, and the former is looking for a male partner now that his coming-out is done.\n\nThe video doesn\'t show enough my interpretation, Bono had tied his hair and is seen kissing a woman before entertaining the kids. I know the Irish singer is a straight, married man and has children, but he shows his involvement against AIDS, so LGBT communities must be concerned by this problem. No matter which U2 song is aired on TV or the radio, I really admire Bono Vox as both a singer and a lyricist.

Katy Perry – Never Worn White Lyrics 2 years ago
The video in itself is even better than the song. Having both wedding and child desires.\nKaty Perry wears a white dress and has a ring on a finger. Flowers are a direct allusion to her fiancé Orlando Bloom. Means a marriage is on the way. But then, we see flowers on the water, pink backgrounds and blue neons around Katy, who is not dancing. Then, by the end of the video, she launches her calls to him and has her putting her hands on her round belly, meaning that she would like to have her fiancé\'s baby alongside her wedding.\nPerry herself confirmed a few days later she was expecting her daughter when the video was shot. Daisy Dove Bloom was born in August 2020.

Tom McRae – For The Restless Lyrics 2 years ago
My then-boyfriend and I were in a low during our relationship at the time this single was aired on the radio. So the narrator could alternatively be me and him. He had a job while I didn\'t have any. Plus, we didn\'t live under the same roof, choosing a rendezvous once a week instead. So our couple was in a low and that impacted my man, I guess. He was the restless one while I was the faithless one. My man was the one writing our names in the bathroom, smoking cigarettes in his car during the late hours (between 8pm and 5am) since he needed me, while I was the "beauty queen" who went to sleep after a tired chat with him, who kept a lot of secrets, and I was bleeding because of what happened during the last 3 months (he did not beat me, but I did feel like "bruised"). Then, at about 3am, as my man took another puff of his gasper, he\'d remember me before the 3 months corresponding to the "low", while I had doubts about him, thinking that he\'d be afraid for me not to come back. So this was the kind of song that cemented our weekly rendezvous again.
