Bob Dylan – Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat Lyrics 9 years ago
Nico said this song is about Edie, and it makes some sense.

Edie used to wear a lot of leopard clothes, also a leopard hat, you can search it and you will find it, I think is from the Ciao Manhattan footage. And who else would wear a leopard skin-pill-box hat if is not Edie?

Bobby talks about her money,

Yes, I just wanna see
If it's really that expensive kind

You might think he loves you for your money

Edie came from a rich family, and was a socialite but she lost all her money with clothes, drugs, and all kind of expensive stuff.

Well, I asked the doctor if I could see you
...
You know, I don't mind him cheatin' on me
But I sure wish he'd take that off his head
Your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

I think there he's talking bout Warhol, it's well known that Bob didn't like Andy, cause he thought he ruined people lives. Lot of people says Andy ruined pretty girls lives just cause he was jealous. So maybe he's making a reference or something like that. Or just telling Edie to be careful.

Well, I see you got a new boyfriend
You know, I never seen him before

He's being ironical. Sure he has seen her new boyfriend, Bob Neuwirth, friend and the left hand of Dylan. Edie and Neurwith had a short-kind-of-relationship, so he's talking about him.

Well, I saw him
Makin' love to you
You forgot to close the garage door

Here maybe he's talking about Chelsea Hotel. It wouldn't be too strange to see them making love in one of those 'garage' rooms.
It seems he doesn't care but to be honest if he doesn't care about her he wouldn't have write the song.

So I think it's pretty clear.
I hope it'll be helpful.

Leonard Cohen – One of Us Cannot Be Wrong Lyrics 9 years ago
As most Cohenites know, this song is about the above mentioned German chanteuse Nico, of Warhol and Velvet Underground fame. Cohen’s unrequited infatuation for Nico during his stay in New York is well documented in Chapter 7 – Black Photograph of Ira B. Nadel’s biography ‘Various Positions’, which bluntly summarizes Nico’s response to Cohen’s overtures:

Nico made it clear that nothing would happen between her and Cohen; She preferred younger men.

Cohen’s own description of Nico in his introduction to ‘One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong’ at his legendary 1970 Isle Of Wight Concert, is striking:

I was coming off amphetamines and pursuing a blonde lady that I met in a Nazi poster.

This explains so good that cold storm he talks about, German is a cold place, Nico was always remembered as a cold person, all dressed in a white suit and blonde, blonde hair.

David Bowie – Sweet Thing Lyrics 9 years ago
It's safe in the city, to love in a doorway
To wrangle some screens from the door

There's Lou explaining some of the things of NY...

And isn't it me, putting pain in a stranger?

...and of his own fame, maybe when lot of people starts to use heroin or any drugs, and blame him and his music for all that.

Like a portrait in flesh, who trails on a leash
Will you see that I'm scared and I'm lonely?

He's showing David's another side of himself,
I'm rude, and a "phantom" but I've still got feelings, anyway. And I had choose you to know it.

So I'll break up my room, and yawn and I
Run to the center of things
Where the knowing one says

That was one of Lou's ways to rebele, boys, sweet thing. And he's telling David how amazing they are, so how amazing he can be for him, and him for he.
The knowing one could be anyone, a lot of people Lou respect were gays, sure, just as Burroughs, even Andy.

I'm glad that you're older than me
Makes me feel important and free

Here's where David starts to tell the story. Lou was 5 years older than Davs, that makes him feel quite important cause he was a fan of Lou works since long ago, and now he's in his position, even more famous than he.

Does that make you smile, isn't that me?

It was quite difficult make Lou smile on a bad day, that's David realeasing that he can do it, it sounds quite nice.

I'm in your way, and I'll steal every moment

Lou said once about a paint of him and David, where David's a vamp waiting to Lou's next move, "How did you know? That bitch stole everything from me." So its well summed up.

If his trade is a curse, then I'll bless you
And turn to the crossroads, and hamburgers, and...

He's just saying that if what Lou's doing is a curse, he just can say good luck, good way, cause I am going to keep by your side, we will walk by, we will see what is going on. More or less but anyway together.

The Velvet Underground – Train Round The Bend Lyrics 9 years ago
I know it's not every song about drugs, but it might be.
Is like if in the country he's trying to leave his drug adicction, but he finds out that he can't (or don't want to) and returns to the city (to the drugs) where he's sure he belongs.

Lou Reed – She's My Best Friend Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about Rachel, not an avereage girl, she was a travesti.
I think it's definetly a love song but something important too, friendship. She's his lover but they can laugh and go around just like if they were only good friends.

The Velvet Underground – Femme Fatale Lyrics 9 years ago
I know about Andy telling Lou...Edie...but for me this song is about Nico.
The way he describes that girl, fits better with Nico. Andy must had tell him to write a song about Sedgwick, cause she was a Femme Fatale, and so, Lou did. But maybe, when he was writing he realise (or didn't) that in fact is talking about Krista.

Don't know why, but the music and the environment that the Velvets creates for me, fits with the personality and the presence of Nico.
Just an opinion.

Bob Dylan – One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later) Lyrics 9 years ago
I think this song is about Sedgwick:

I didn't mean to treat you so bad
You shouldn't take it so personal
I didn't mean to make you so sad
You just happened to be there, that's all

It's really clear, in fact, he's saying sorry, but at same time excusing himself.

When I saw you say "goodbye" to your friends and smile
I thought that it was well understood
That you'd be comin' back in a little while
I didn't know that you were sayin' "goodbye" for good

She said bye to Warhol and all his Factory for Bob, but he doesn't believe her, he tought she would come back to his friend and all this madness. But Edie really left all that behind for Dylan.

But, sooner or later, one of us must know
You just did what you're supposed to do
Sooner or later, one of us must know
That I really did try to get close to you

We have tried but for some reason it hasn't worked, is not you blame or mine, but we must know that this isnt going anywhere, Edie.

I couldn't see what you could show me
Your scarf had kept your mouth well hid
I couldn't see how you could know me
But you said you knew me and I believed you did
When you whispered in my ear
And asked me if I was leavin' with you or her
I didn't realize just what I did hear
I didn't realize how young you were

He couldn't see what she really was, and what she really feel, cause was in some aspects really superficial about her look and clothes, and he couldn't believe for sure she loves him. So he wasn't sure about her, cause she was so charming in many ways, but finally when they were close he forgot that and believe anything she said. Then I think is talking about Edie and Sara, they must had talk about that in some moment, and he was "blind" by her, even thinking about leaving Sara for a moment and just be for Edie. Now he see how blind he was, and how young she was for him.

I couldn't see when it started snowin'
Your voice was all that I heard
I couldn't see where we were goin'
But you said you knew an' I took your word
And then you told me later, as I apologized
That you were just kiddin' me, you weren't really from the farm
An' I told you, as you clawed out my eyes
That I never really meant to do you any harm

He didn't see when things starts to get so bad, he was focus only in her. He trust her and expect her to take the situation. He says he's sorry but it had to be over, and she acts on the defensive, kidding him, but Bob knows she's broke, and feels sorry cause he didn't want her to feel that bad.

Lou Reed – Sally Can't Dance Lyrics 9 years ago
For me this song is about Edie, she used to dance and she did it really well, but she lost her self into so many drugs.
She was the first girl in everything, was a boomb, and she learn how to distrust some man, cause she was "raped" by his dad, altought she trust Andy too much. She was a big model, well she was, the "it" girl, and she had a kind of affair with Dylan, altought Dylan hadn't admit it, Lou is telling us in some way.
She knew all the really right people cause she was someone, people wanted to be by her side cause she had some kind of light inside her, but she has lost everything.

I think that's what Lou's saying. I'm sorry Edie, you used to dance like a goddess, and be a goddess, but darling you can't dance forever.
