Deee-Lite – Groove Is In The Heart Lyrics 5 years ago
I'm kind of shocked that no one seems to have given the interpretation that I'm about to give.... but, here it goes.

This song is about sex. It's even crude at times about it. For example, the first lines.

"The chills that you spill up my back" (your cumshot on my back)
"Keep me filled with satisfaction when we're done" (I love that feeling when sex is over)
"Satisfaction of what's to come" (satisfaction of what's to CUM)

It's honestly pretty straight forward the entire time if you read between the lines a bit.

"I couldn't ask for another
No, I couldn't ask for another" (these lines could refer to her not wanting to ask for another orgasm, because she's satisfied already, or that she couldn't ask for another lover in her life. It's simply depicting her satisfaction sexually)

Your groove, I do deeply dig (Replace the word "groove" with "cock" for a very direct interpretation. Another possibility is that "groove" is simply meaning the raw sexual chemistry between her and her lover)

No walls, only the bridge, my supper dish
My succotash wish (these two lines could be talking about any sexual "wish" or "desire" that she wants fulfilled. However.... I can again break this down in a more "literal" interpretation. "No walls" = No sexual boundaries, no sexual restrictions. "only the bridge" = Biffin's Bridge to be specific, the space between her vagina and anus. "My super dish, my succotash wish" = this is euphemism for her wanting to try anal sex. The entirety of this verse as a whole is basically saying that she is so sexually attracted to this (man, presumably) that she is willing, and possibly eager, to try anal sex.

I'm going to go through the general meanings of the remaining verses without going into a terrible amount of detail. honestly because I'm getting a bit bored. lol.

Moving on....

The depth of hula groove
Move us to the nth hoop
We're going through to, Horten hears a who

This is meaning the depth (possibly literal depth) of your hip thrusting has moved her to the "nth hoop" (nth as in innumerable, hoop as in "levels" of pleasure).

DJ Soul was on a roll
I been told he can't be sold
Not vicious or malicious
Just de-lovely and delicious

Possibly a straightforward reveal of who she's been singing about, whoever DJ Soul is/was. Or someone else she's been with that's at least comparable, or that she desires. However, I would guess that she's been with them and that they are the exact person she is singing about because here she states that they are delicious, which means she's been with them already and knows this, and the previous line of her saying that she "couldn't ask for another" could still mean another lover. So, I don't think this is another person introduced into the mix, this is who she is singing about.

Someone's in this torso (yeah) (Obvious... do I have to explain this?)
Hot! Gotta deal you wanna know (wanna know) (The deal being that she wants to have sex)
Dee-Liteful truly Dee-Liteful (liteful) (She's good at it)
Makin' it doin' it 'specially at show (show) (Again obvious, but possibly the twist of making a spectacle or liking voyeurs in the mix)
Feeling kinda high like a Hendrix haze (haze) (just a reference to sexual stimulation)
Music makes motion moves like a maze (maze) (Again, just a sexual reference, this time mixing it with rhythm. A good thing to have when it comes to sex)
All inside of me (side) (Do I have to explain?)
Heart especially (yeah) (This one I'll take a moment to explain because it's importance is relevant to the main repeated line of the song, "Groove is in the Heart" Earlier I stated that "groove" is innuendo for "penis". Heart in this case is innuendo for vagina. So the two lines together "All inside of me, Heart especially" would mean "all inside me, especially my vagina". Which would be her preferred sexual location.... obviously.)
Help of the rhythm where I wanna be (c'mon) (the rhythm is the sexual act, where she wants to be... or what she wants to be doing)
Flowin' glowin' with electric eyes (ha) (passion)
You dip to the dive baby you'll realize (yeah) (you know I'm right about this lust)
Baby you'll see the funky side of me ( the side only a select few get to share with me, sex)
Baby you'll see that rhythm is the key (hmm!) (rhythm makes you fuck good)
Get get ready with it (with it) (about to orgasm)
Can't can't quit it (quit it) (about to orgasm)
Stomp on the street when I hear a funk beat (beat) (orgasm)
Playing Pied Piper (orgasm)
Follow what's true (just a filler line??? Or maybe meaning the sex was great?)
Baby just sing about the groove (sing it) (sex was great)

Groove is in the Heart (As I said just above, this line is basically saying "Penis is in the Vagina" Which is the apex of the sexual act between a man and a woman, and this is why its repeated so frequently in the song and why its the focal point of the entire song, just as its the focal point of sex.)

I just wanted to add something to this, and I hope it adds even more to this song for someone out there as it has for me. It's strange, because I sat around thinking for a long time what the meaning of the line, "Do not spray into eyes - I have sprayed you into my eyes." could mean and it finally dawned on me.

There are warnings on spray cans that literally say, "Do not spray into eyes". If you take into account what Taro and Capa did as a living, taking photos of war, and how dangerous that is to do, then add in the fact that Taro died while doing that job years before Capa did, you will get the meaning. Basically, to me at least, Taro's death is the warning to Capa of how dangerous their job can be, "Do not spray into eyes". But, Capa ignores this and even knowing full well, he still continues to do that job until it kills him as well, "I have sprayed you into my eyes".

Now, if you blend in the beautiful and soft way its sung, you get a feeling of peace when you hear that line. That to me is because its meant as if Capa has done so understanding that he might die as Taro did, but that's fine because he will be with her all that much sooner.

In an abstract way... this is what love between two people is all about. We are all warnings, we all have things we have done in our lives that have terrible consequences. But, the people that love us don't care, and they would even go so far as to do those same things with you because they love you so much.

"Do not spray into eyes - I have sprayed you into my eyes."

For me, it really is the most beautiful lyric I have ever heard... it brought tears to my eyes and I couldn't stop crying when I realized what it meant. It is so simple it's almost childish... but it is SO powerful, that the emotion of its meaning cuts deep in a beautiful way.

It made me think of my wife and my daughter immediately.
