This song is very emotional for me and feels very personal. It reminds me of a girl I was hot on for years. I finally plucked up the courage to tell her, only to be rejected. This song came out around that era, and although I love the song, it's still quite painful to listen to. I struggled to get over it and things all got a bit weird after that, in the end we had to avoid each other and don't really talk anymore.
Luckily I moved on and am happily married now, but was very naive in those days, at least where relationships are concerned. |

I'm probably wrong, but I don't think this song is about Jacko preaching that we need to save the world.
I interpret it as a guy who's just broken up or is having relationship difficulties, and is looking at the bigger picture - for all the problems he's having in his relationship there are issues a million times bigger in the world at large. |

This song reminds me of a girl I was madly in love with around the time this record come out. For years I couldn't pluck up the courage to tell her, but when I eventually found a way - needless to say, it didn't end well.
I still enjoy listening to this song though, as it mirrored my feelings at the time. I would go out of my way to be around her, and every time she spoke to me I would literally just melt inside. It was probably never going to work as I was way too far gone.
Anyway, happily married now (to someone else) with a beautiful daughter, so it all worked out OK in the end. |

Don't really care about the meaning aside from it clearly being a love song, but IMO one of the finest NG songs to date. Just could be a bit longer, I could happily listen to this track for 20 minutes! |

Agree with Sophia, very very obviously about Martin's separation.
Really beautiful track though, my heart goes out to him because there's obviously still feelings there and so much emotion in this track. The last verse brings tears to my eyes. |
