Jellyfish – I Wanna Stay Home Lyrics 9 years ago
From the lyrics the song could be about an ordinary person who lives in a small boring town. He insists that home is all he cares about as the town offers nothing else.

That, or it's Monday again :P

Modern English – Someone's Calling Lyrics 9 years ago
It was written during a tense moment in the Cold War (the early 80s).

"turning 'round as if in flight
I sense your breath cut like a knife
a thousand shadows all in pain
what they feel (fear?) must be the same

the tension's mounting with the tide
I see the heat rise to the sky
I search the faces for a clue
a thousand hate(s), some laughter too"

This indicates the moment of a nuclear attack. The heat, the insane laughter, and the sheer terror at what's happening.

"the flames were dancing as the people shouted
the streets they were alive as the stage was mounted
a thousand cries of jubilation
from the throes of this great people's nation

and as our bridges burned to dust
a useless theme was quite enough
I felt as you, one with the night
someone's calling in the night"

He and a lover are huddled together as they melt with the city? Then again, I have a pretty morbid notion of what's going on, lol.

William Devaughn – Be Thankful For What You Got Lyrics 10 years ago
The song's meaning is very obvious. Be appreciative of your current situation in life even if you don't drive that expensive Cadillac you see your neighbour cruising in ("You may not have a car at all, but remember brothers and sisters, you can still stand tall").

L'arc-en-ciel – Stay Away Lyrics 10 years ago
Daniel Powter made a cover version with alternate lyrics:

I think it’s time to find a way out
Nothing’s gonna hold me down now
Feeling LUCKY Feeling LUCKY
Feeling REALLY LUCKY

No looking back or second guessing
I think by now I’ve learned my lesson
Feeling LUCKY Feeling LUCKY
Feeling REALLY LUCKY

I’ve been walking down the same street
I can’t take the pain no more
Needs to change my life completely
GOTTA LEAVE THE PAST BEHIND

I’M GOIN’ AWAY, STAY AWAY
HAPPY DAYS, COME MY WAY
Breaking all the chains that bind me
Leaving all the bad behind me
I wanna be HAPPY I wanna Be HAPPY
I just wanna be HAPPY

I know there’s something better out there
And if I stay you know I’ll never leave here
I wanna be HAPPY I wanna Be HAPPY
I just wanna be HAPPY

I know sometimes that it ain’t easy
I understand that it gets hard
But you can change your life completely
IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

I’M GOIN’ AWAY, STAY AWAY
HAPPY DAYS, COME MY WAY
I’M GOIN’ AWAY, STAY AWAY
HAPPY DAYS, FOR YOU AND ME

I’m tired of walking down the same street
I can’t take the pain no more
Needs to change my life completely
GOTTA LEAVE THE PAST BEHIND

I’M GOIN’ AWAY, STAY AWAY
HAPPY DAYS, COME MY WAY
GOIN’ AWAY, STAY AWAY
I’M GOIN’ AWAY, STAY AWAY
HAPPY DAYS, COME MY WAY
I’M GOIN’ AWAY, STAY AWAY
HAPPY DAYS, COME MY WAY
(COME MY WAY)

It pretty much speaks for itself, but I agree with you, it's about breaking free from routine and taking control of your life before it controls you.

Shugo Tokumaru – Parachute (Japanese and English Lyrics) Lyrics 10 years ago
While the lyrics seem bizarre, to say the least, it's pretty comprehensible with the translation on offer.

From what I gather of the song it's about falling off the ladder (the path to your dreams) when the wind knocks you off (setbacks), landing on earth with your parachute (brushing it off gently), and getting back up on the ladder to reach the blue sky (your main goal), no matter how many times you keep falling off.

In short: NEVER GIVE UP! No matter how many times the wind pushes you back!

It's a very optimistic song, especially in this day and age. Shugo mostly writes happy music, even if we don't know what he's saying initially.

Gentle Giant – Raconteur, Troubadour Lyrics 10 years ago
Raconteur

Definition: a person who tells anecdotes in a skilful and amusing way, i.e. a storyteller.

Troubadour

Definition: a French medieval lyric poet composing and singing in Provençal in the 11th to 13th centuries, especially on the theme of courtly love.

The song is told from his viewpoint. He loves to make money off his craft and the enjoyment he brings to people who pay to hear him sing fun, humorous stories.

The song really speaks for itself. The medieval elements in the musical instrumentation help to throw us into that time period.
