Third Eye Blind – Semi-Charmed Life Lyrics 10 years ago
Some of us who grew up in the 90s and are adults now can sympathize when I say this is a really nostalgic song in many ways. Clearly, the song is about drugs, specifically crystal meth and a relationship she had with a girl. There are better explanations and interpretations of the lyrics. However, I think it's a very special song that was such a hit with people because, as I mentioned before, nostalgia is a part of it. We all want to go back to that time that was golden. We all sometimes wish we could "get back there." And when life is tough, so many of us wish we could escape. And that's what "I want something else." The lyrics are very catchy, so is the actual music. In my opinion, it's a very American song, but also universal. A lot of young people and people like me in their thirties are trapped in lives and jobs and things they hate, and they long for the most beautiful times of their youth, for a more innocent era as well (this song is pre-2001, if you get what I mean). I think it's easy to enjoy --- I don't mind the part about drugs now that I'm an adult, and I don't think it's a bad song. It used to irritate me when it was all over the airwaves, but now I love it. Although it's hard to admit, many young people fantasize about drugs or smoking and such, even if they are really clean and do not do these things. I for example have never done those drugs, but I got hooked on cigarettes for a while in college. Then now I take some anxiety pills. Life sucks so much, it's nice to just let go and not care about anything anymore, but in a sunny, positive way. It's really human to respond to the hellish world we live in by escaping. And drugs or no drugs, love in fact is part of things we idealize. I haven't been in a relationship in an extremely long time, but I have a lot of nostalgia for the days of youth in which I was in the one I consider my most important one. This song is beautiful. It's one of those songs that talk about something that is absolutely and ridiculously destructive, and yet it's very easy to sympathize with the overall content, and I think that's part of why this song is genius. It's a sweet sad song and yet very happy at the same time. I like all of it...
