Grunge is what was made up by the media and Poneman of Sub Pop said it as a joke. From all the grunge bands no one called their music grunge. Kurt labeled his music punkrock and some songs new wave.
And that Kurt didnt want to popular is also not true.
He said once that he wanted to have the adoration of John Lennon but have the anonymity of Ringo Starr. I didn't want to be a frontman. I just wanted to be back there and still be a rock and roll star at the same time. |

This song has a personal meaning. In 1997 my girlfriend was a heroin addict and i was just getting out of a jail for teens. We just had a daughter and right after she was born her mother started to do drugs again and for more then 3 years she barely saw us. I was 17 and raising a child alone. My aunt helped a lot and i was clean for the most time. When my daughter was 3,5 yrs old she got sick and died in the hospital. One month later her mother, my girlfriend killed herself because the guilt of not being there for her child was too much. Around that time i heard this song and i broke down and cried because it was like it was about us. 14 years later it still makes me emotional when i hear it. Daniel Johns is such a gifted songwriter. He was 16 or 17 when i wrote it. Im a singer/songwriter as well and i have a band since 1994. We are Inspired by Nirvana and Silverchair |

About a teenage boy that shot himself in front of his highschool classmates. Eddie Vedder had seen the article in a newspaper and wrote the song while reading it. I was shocked when i heard the story about Jeremy. I was 13 years old when i realized that spoke in class today had a tragic and horrific meaning. It still gives me a chill when i listen to the song |
