Evanescence – Solitude Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about being in love with someone who doesn't know you love them. Perhaps you can't have them, or perhaps they are blind to the fact that you're in love with them. It's about trying to accept that you will never be with this person. It's about the pain of not being able to tell them your feelings. It's excruciating. I've been there. You just want to tell them so bad but you can't. You pretend your feelings don't exist when you're around this person, but once you're alone in the solitude again, you know in your heart the ONLY thing you want is to be with this person.

This song is also about feeling completely alone, every day. You feel forgotten and abandoned, perhaps by ex-lovers or even friends, because everyone just seems to leave. Everyone seems to have someone and you're just constantly fighting on your own. Solitude is the only thing in your life and it hurts, but you keep coming back to it because it's the only thing you know. This song makes my soul physically ache. It breaks my heart because I can relate to it SO much.

Thank you, Amy, for this beautiful, sensitive song and for making me feel like I'm not the only person who has felt like this.

Paramore – We Are Broken Lyrics 10 years ago
This is one of my favourite songs by Paramore. I love the inclusive language in this song ('we are broken'). It's as if Paramore is telling us we aren't alone when we feel broken, lost and afraid. There's always someone who is going through something similar to you, even if you feel totally isolated. This song is probably aimed at teenagers, however I think it can be a message for anyone who is having a rough time. You can relate this song to a specific situation or time in your life when you felt broken.

I can really understand the line: 'my mouth is dry with words I cannot verbalise'. For me personally, these lines describe the feelings I get with anxiety. A dry mouth and words that don't come out right are things that too often occur for me. The words stay locked up inside because when I'm having a bad moment, I'll be too worried or too overcome with anxiety to just be myself. Then I end up asking myself why the heck I live like that, and why I let anxiety take over ('tell me why we live like this').

'Keep me safe inside your arms like towers, tower over me' - I love these lines too. It's the longing you get when you just want someone to be there for you. You're desperate for someone strong and brave to hold you and protect you with strength. But at the end of each day, it's all the same, and nobody's ever there. You have to rely on yourself again. You dust yourself off and keep going, and somehow you find the strength within yourself. Your inner voice. And moments like that make you feel a little braver, and you feel like you have found yourself again ('lock the doors, cause I'd like to capture this voice that came to me tonight').

'We are broken, what must we do to restore our innocence' - again, the 'we' here I think is Paramore singing out to us, reminding us we aren't alone. We may feel lost and broken, and like we have changed so much over the years thanks to the pain. We want to restore our youth, happiness and ignorance, just to feel whole again ('give us life again, cause we just wanna be whole'). All we want is to go back to the people we were before, but in reality we cannot. After feeling so much pain for whatever reason, we are forever changed ('with my wide eyes, I've seen worlds that don't belong).

Even if we try to pretend like it hasn't changed us, we can never restore our innocence completely. And so life goes on, and you learn to accept it ('and I'll take the truth at any cost').

Breaking Benjamin – Breath Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is very deep and emotional. I think it's about being in love with someone when you know you shouldn't be. It's about resistance and denial, loving and wanting someone so badly but also hating them at the same time because they don't feel the same way, or because they can't be with you. I think it could also be about being obsessed with the person you love, and having them consume your mind and thoughts. Because you can't be with them your mind turns everything into something that it's not, analyzing their every move/word and haunting your memory, and you wish your feelings would stop - for it to simply be over ('is it over yet, in my head').

I can relate to the lyrics, especially 'you take the breath right out of me, you left a hole where my heart should be'. These lines explain the suffering and heartache felt by someone who is battling through an unrequited love. 'I'm going all the way, get away, please' - I think this shows the paradox of wanting someone badly, but also wanting them to leave and get as far away as possible because you know you can't resist them even though you should. 'Please' almost sounds like begging to me.

The bridge of this song really hits home with me too - 'I'm wishing, I'm praying, realize, start hating'. It's the viscous cycle you go through in your head about this person. Wishing and praying you could be together or that they'd finally understand how you feel, then realizing it's never going to be what you want, then hating yourself for feeling that way and possibly hating that person because they will never be with you in the way you need. The scream on 'hating' in this song is so effective because it truly captures the pain, anger and frustration felt within when you realize everything but simply cannot accept it. It almost sounds like giving up.

I could go more into depth with the amazing lyrics here, but it would probably take far too long. I love this song so much, and I love the fact that this band is able to illustrate such powerful emotion and longing.

Evanescence – Snow White Queen Lyrics 10 years ago
I can see how this song relates to Amy's stalker, but in my opinion it is more about rape. I love this song and I think the lyrics are great. It's so creepy and haunting. I think this song could be about a woman who feels very uncomfortable around a certain man, and she believes that he would rape her if he ever got the chance (or maybe it has even happened once or twice before). She feels terrified in his presence and can't escape him. She is aware of the way he thinks about her.

I love how this song is written from two different perspectives - the woman's in the verses and bridge, and the man's in the chorus. I think the line "there's nowhere to run, so let's just get it over" is really effective because it conveys a sense of the woman giving up and the man having complete dominance. I also really like the part in the bridge "I'm losing my mind, and you just stand there and stare as my world divides". These lines show how much the man is impacting the woman's life through his actions and the way he stares, it's almost as if he's purposely trying to scare her. The woman is afraid that something could actually happen one day, and it's as if she knows exactly what the man is thinking and what he wants to do to her.

The Fray – Be Still Lyrics 10 years ago
I do not believe this song is about God (probably because I am an atheist). To me, this song is about death of a loved one who wants to remind you that they are by yours side even though their presence is not physical. On the other hand, this song could be about not necessarily losing someone through death, but about being far away from someone you love and miss for a long period of time.

This song brings me to tears almost every time I listen to it. It is beautiful and comforting and the lyrics are just incredible. This song is so calming. It's like a gentle reminder that the ones we love are with us in our hearts all the time, even though they may not be there with us physically. The Fray is saying that when you feel completely alone in times of difficulty and during times where you just feel like giving up, you need to remember that you have someone standing by you who loves and supports you. If you think of them, then everything will be alright and you will be able to get through that moment.

Avril Lavigne – Unwanted Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song is about wanting someone to appreciate and like you, but that person seems to do everything they can to ignore you and push you away. I think it's about wanting to show someone who you are, and wanting them to make an effort with you and give you a chance. In some ways, I think this is about rudeness, or perhaps a misunderstanding between two people ('you don't know me, don't ignore me, you don't want me there, you just shut me out'). I think this song probably means something personal to Avril. but for me it shows a lot of anger and frustration - it's when you want someone to let you in, like you and accept you, but they don't, and they make you feel small, insignificant and unwanted.

Evanescence – My Heart Is Broken Lyrics 10 years ago
This is one of my absolute favourite songs by Evanescence. I think this is the most beautiful, emotional, most haunting song I have ever heard and I can relate to every word. In my opinion, this song is about the pain of having to let go of someone you love with all your heart, or losing them from your life and there's nothing you can do about it. Hence, "I will wander 'til the end of time, torn away from you." I think it's about the suffering felt because of losing someone you love, and you know your heart is so broken that you feel like you cannot go on. On top of this, the fear of not ever being able to escape the feeling of sadness haunts you. You are scared of the possibility that you'll feel like this forever and all you want is to feel happiness again. You are chained to the depression you feel, you can't let go of it. "Chained to this fear that I will never find a way to heal my soul."

In my opinion, I think "my dark angel" mentioned in this song is the person you can't let go of. The person who has caused your heart to be broken. You still love them, and in the dark of the night you know you will always love them, even though they have caused you heartache. "Sweet sleep, my dark angel". You still wish them happiness and a life of sweetness and joy. You are prepared to suffer through the pain but you still want them to be happy. "Deliver us from sorrow's hold". This line to me is a plea to the "dark angel" (loved one) to free you from the sadness you are feeling. You want them to help you let go of the sorrow you are so attached to. I think the word "us" is used to symbolise everyone who has ever felt like this. All you want is to be free again and not chained to the darkness caused by your heartache. "My heart is broken" - I think the fact this line is repeated so much is very effective in the song, as it is so straightforward and honest. It's like there is no denying that your heart is torn in two from the pain you are feeling.

Overall, I love this song so much and it really touches my soul. When I listen to this song I feel like I am in another world and every single word describes perfectly how I have felt in my past. Amy Lee's lyrics never fail to make me feel extremely emotional and reflective. A brilliant song, and definitely one of my favourites.

Evanescence – Your Star Lyrics 10 years ago
I understand how this song would be perceived as being about the death of a loved one. However, to me it is also about betrayal, or losing someone from your life (not necessarily from death) whom you thought you could rely on, or who you thought would always be there. I think it's about needing someone so badly that without them you feel completely alone, but when you try and reach out to them, they give nothing in return and it's like they don't want to acknowledge you even exist. 'So far away, its growing colder without your love, why can't you feel me calling your name?'. This line of the song really hits home with me; it's almost like a desperate plea for that person to come back to you, to love you again, but they won't.

'Can't break the silence, its breaking me.' This line is also very powerful. It's almost as if you are longing to break the silence between you and the other person, and you'd do anything for them to simply talk to you, but they just won't and because of that you reach breaking point. You need them and you feel like you can't be without them. 'We're wandering now, all in parts and pieces. Swim lonely, find your own way out.' I love that line too, as I think it expresses how you have to force yourself to let go of that person in some way, although of course they still remain with you underneath everything. You're wandering through life, feeling broken, you're alone, and there's no one there to help so you have to stand up, be strong and figure it out on your own.

I really love this song. It touches my heart (as do all of Ev's songs) and I think it's so unique and beautiful. Extremely powerful and emotional.

Evanescence – Swimming Home Lyrics 10 years ago
This is the most beautiful, ethereal, heavenly-like song. I love it. To me this song is simply about death, but not in a negative way. It is perhaps coming from the perspective of someone who knows they are about to die. In my opinion, it is someone who is going to, or wants to, commit suicide. What gives this away for me are the lines "Way down, I've been way down, underneath this skin, waiting to hear my name again." The person has been drowning in their sadness, consumed by depression, constantly feeling down and alone, and they are looking for a way of escape, they are waiting to hear their name again, waiting to feel wanted or like they belong again. "I'm sorry, nothing can hold me" - the person is apologising for what they know is about to happen, but they have no way of stopping their death. "I adore you still" - they want their loved ones to know that they still care, and they will still be watching over them as they pass on, but they can't keep up life as it is. At the end of the song, the final line, "and nothing can hold me" is the last breath, the last apology - the end. Nothing can stop them from ending life.

Moonspell – Scorpion Flower Lyrics 10 years ago
First off, I love this song. This is just my interpretation - I might be completely wrong, but I honestly feel like this song is written about someone born with the horoscope sign of Scorpio. Scorpios are known for being intense, mysterious people, often with very dark, severe, piercing eyes that stare right through you. The lyrics to this song are amazing. To me, it's also about wanting to know someone completely, wanting to see their soul and everything about who they are, all their darkness and their secrets.

'Can I steal your mind for a while?', 'Can I stop your heart for a while?' These lines suggest to me that overwhelming feeling of wanting to delve into the deepest part of someone's mind, wanting to stop their heart so they can be still, and so you can consume every part of them and know them without them stopping you or putting up walls to guard themselves. 'Ignite the skies with your eyes' - again, to me this is about someone born under the Scorpio sign. The eyes of a Scorpio person can be so penetrating that they seem to ignite power and mystery that you can never really understand, so much power that they could ignite the dark skies with the intensity of their eyes. This is just how I interpret the song. I could probably analyze it much better than that, but all I know is that I love it and I can relate to it!
