London Grammar – Wasting My Young Years Lyrics 9 years ago
When I first heard this song I thought it was about the urgency and doubts of youth. I feel the song is talking about that time in youth when you feel like you don't really know where you are going but you moving through the motions, outdated as they are.

"I'm wasting my young years
It doesn't matter
I'm chasing old ideas
It doesn't matter"

This part of the song makes me think of the camaraderie of being young. We are all in the same boat, going thorough the same emotions. We may be feeling all of these doubts but we are going to feel it together, with the people we find special in our lives.

"Maybe…
We are
We are
Maybe I'm wasting my young years"

But its also telling us to keep going. To be patient and live without fear, love without fear.

"Don't you know that it's only fear
And I wouldn't worry, you have all your life
I've heard it takes some time to get it right"

The last part of the song almost seems like she's looking at a reflection of herself. She doesn't know who she is but she doesn't want to give up on herself or the hope that she will make it through the struggles she's having right now. Also that she's depending on someone/something from her youth and she doesn't want that person/thing to have a hold on her emotions anymore.

"I don't know what you are
Don't leave me hanging on"

I also read an interview where the band talked about some of the songs from the album and the idea behind "Wasting My Young Years":

Hannah: "...when you are young, you go in and out of feeling like that, you know? Especially, I think, our generation. People coming out of university, trying to find jobs… We really have a fear about direction and where they're going and whether they're going to have a career and where they are going to live. I think that's definitely a part of it."

The 1975 – Chocolate Lyrics 10 years ago
In an interview, Matty says this song is about "me and my mates knocking around in my hometown. It is a kind of love letter to the kind of relationships we had with authority figures, be it our parents or the police. its kind of a story about small town boredom."

To me, this song is a serenade or an ode of sorts to when a guy likes a girl and the time they spend together, just doing wild crazy teenager stuff. He believes life is sweet when their together ('chocolate') and he doesn't ever want them to break up or give up their time together ('quit it'). I tend to envision some cool teenagers having fun around town together when I hear this song. They don't want their time together to end ('quit'). They prefer to be youthful and rebellious and have a good time.

Paramore – Let the Flames Begin Lyrics 11 years ago
To me, this song is the ultimate war cry.

"What a shame we all became such fragile, broken things
A memory remains, just a tiny spark
I give it all my oxygen, to let the flames begin
To let the flames begin"

A war or great trial of life has made us fragile and broken. A memory remains of something good. It is small yet sufficient. It can be love, hope, faith, etc. You put everything into this small thing because you know you have the power to make it into a flame. she speaks with "we" and "I" because she may be the one leading the war, guiding others to stand up and fight.

"This is how we'll dance when
When they try to take us down
This is what we'll be, oh glory"

She wants them to know when the war is done, this fighting, them standing up together will be what they remember.

"Somewhere weakness is our strength, and I'll die searching for it"

Someday the weakness we feel we be our strength, and she wont give up on finding it. On finding the strength to fight.

"I can't let myself regret, such selfishness"

She can let herself regret fighting the war because that would be selfish to the people who trust her and are following her into the war. It would be selfish to regret when so many people believe in her cause.

"My pain and all the trouble caused, no matter how long
I believe that there's hope"

She believes there is hope after all the pain and suffering.

"This is how we'll dance when
When they try to take us down
This is how we'll sing oh
This is how we'll stand when
When they burn our houses down
This is what we'll be, oh glory"

When they come after us, when they take away the things we hold dear, we will stand together and our strength and the way we fought will be our glory.

"Reaching as I sink down into light (To light)
Reaching as I sink down into light (To light)"

Reaching, trying to pull others with you into the light. You've found some kind of peace among the storm and are reaching for something or someone that was lost in the storm or war.

In the live performances Hayley adds in:

"Oh father
Oh father
Oh father
My jesus
Father
Well I am ready
Won't you let it begin now
Cause I am here now, I want you dance in
The mighty palm of your hand, your hand"

This can definitely go back to those Christian references everyone was talking about. I think its about redemption and salvation in the end. She wants to go the glory of God.

I think my perspective of this song was definitely solidified into an actual opinion by listening to Part II. I was definitely at a different place in my life when i first heard this record. It felt like the raw emotions i was feeling, due to being pushed down by everyone around me. Now i see it more as a war cry (like "come join me and let us fight together"). I feel like part of me grew up with this band :]

Paramore – Ain't It Fun Lyrics 11 years ago
That's a beautiful interpretation :] I think it's about getting ready to leave home and being strong when your on your own in the real world. I definitely see the story of a cocky kid going out into the real world and getting a reality check.

I think it's such a feel good, stay strong kind of song. This is the real world and we're here too. I think that's what she's saying.

I love the gospel-funk feel towards the end of the song !

"Don’t go crying to your mama
'Cause you’re on your own
In the real world"
